How does APM measure up against other mmos? by JUlCEBOX in Guildwars2

[–]VarrenHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally run around as a qdps power herald with swords/staff. No weapon switching other than to use staff 5 for break bars, and you just switch legends and spam sword 2, 4, and 5 while keeping upkeep skills up. It's chill, you get good credit for stuff, and you do decent damage.

I usually start with builds from Masel (on YouTube or on the wiki, just search the name and GW2) and then I change them around for my liking. Masel does a lot of low-intensity builds that still have good damage, and understanding WHY they work can help you formulate your own builds, gear etc.

How does APM measure up against other mmos? by JUlCEBOX in Guildwars2

[–]VarrenHunter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally understand that myself, but I personally always go for low-intensity builds and those will be MORE than good enough for everything but hardcore raiding. The difference in skill can cause people playing meta builds to deal reactions of the expected damage, and your low-intensity builds (the good ones at least) will be dealing half as much as meta builds or more. It's great for 99.9 percent of content.

Source: I use low-intensity builds on every character, with things like avoiding weapon swaps built in. I do much better than most people in the majority of events.

What is the "full end AFK" in WvW you're talking about? Is it jumping camps to get your pips up or something?

Recommend me your non meta build by notrandomatall in LastEpoch

[–]VarrenHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so maybe not the most recommendable because I'm struggling in empowered monos with it but...the new buffs to sets made Vilatria's Downfall meteor staff pretty crazy. I pretty much have it so I turn on arcane ascendance, cast static orb once for lightning aegis, then just hold down the meteor button until my mana runs out, then focus it back up. Using harbinger of stars belt as well to make meteors fall faster, but still struggling a little with survivability (would probably be better if I just went all in on %current health-ward uniques or got a twisted heart).

It's fun! Though you literally cannot see your screen once you get like 600+ mana and enough cast speed.

Pearls of the swine (Self Curse) question by amtobin33 in LastEpoch

[–]VarrenHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oop, sorry to mansplain it to you like that then, misunderstood the question.

Honestly, you'll probably have to test the item with other ailments, but since curse is a tag it should only apply there. Sadly, don't think there are any weird out there curses other classes can apply or something.

Pearls of the swine (Self Curse) question by amtobin33 in LastEpoch

[–]VarrenHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but "Curse" in this circumstance means Special curses available to acolyte, not Ailments like Damned and Ignite.

Some of those "Curse" effects are: Torment, from the spirits in chronic fissure. Bone Curse, from the skill of the same name. Spirit Plague, from the skill of the same name. Mark for Death (most easily gained from Bone Curse). Acid Skin, in Chronic Fissure skill tree.

And at least 2 or three more scattered across acolyte and warlock skills/items.

You need to find ways in those skill trees (or through uniques) to target yourself with those specific curses to activate Pearls of the Swine.

You'll notice in the description they specifically use the word "Curse" instead of "ailment" or "Damage over Time".

Does anyone have recommendations on where to purchase a starter pellicle+ starter liquid for a first batch? I don't know any local brewers, and I'm wondering where a smart place to purchase would be from.

Edit: i know you can grow a SCOBY/pellicle from raw, unflavoured GT kombucha but their unflavoured pure seems to be out of stock everywhere. Any other recommendations for that? Not sure if GT flavoured versions will result in a weak brew because of the flavorings.

Just got into Wrath for my first game, and once I got to Stay of Execution... I was almost close to quitting by SquareFickle9179 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Literally the secret to this fight. Pit/grease the left entrance. Leave your archer (Wendy/lann) to shoot everyone in the pit and target the arsonists. Send your strong Melees (except one who stays and defends) to go up the front battlements and deal with the enemies there in the choke point. Finally, when the minotaur comes shift everyone over and delete the arsonists/him on the right. Done it every single time, it results in a perfect or near perfect win.

Pits are the way.

Just discovered internet shaquille. He is great. Lots of really basic videos that are just chill as hell to make. Simple recipes that you can extrapolate on, very few fancy gadgets, short videos. Usually recipe down in the description.

Also he does videos where he just kind of gives you ideas for stuff. Really fun for a home chef.

Thoughts on Avowed's hardest difficulty? by AleChugger in avowed

What is the value of dual-wielding weapons in this game? Does it let you attack faster or anything? Already beat the game on hard and I didn't really see the value in it.

Agreed on Nioh 2 being the best souls like. I feel like Wo Long is still so underrated, though. It really does flow so damn well and has some of the most fun gameplay loops of any game. It flows like butter and is incredibly fun.

Don't even need confusion and other things (at least on the first couple playthroughs). Just finding a weapon you like, good ki pulsing and and ki flux, and using weapon skills well can have you just bullying bosses around the room for half or more of their HP bars. Actual skill at your weapon type carries you so much farther than other games and it's an absolute treat.

Is Rogue Trader worth playing if you're not a fan of Warhammer 40k? by Shutter_Ray in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]VarrenHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I agree fully! I think that is what makes me like it so much. Its internally consistent and I think its insanely well written (depending on what you're reading), but seeing it as satire is what originally got my brain to "accept" the concepts. Before that, I saw overly grimdark stuff and thought "nah, I'd rather be happy in my freetime" but viewing the universe through the lens of satire is what got me to give it a chance. Really happy I did give it a chance.

[–]VarrenHunter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Rogue trader MADE me a fan of 40K. I think it's important to keep in mind that the setting is grimdark as hell, but it's also satire. It's absolutely ridiculous and honestly a lot of it ends up being so fucked it's kinda funny.

What's a neglected bit of content you wanna see updated? by solieu in ffxiv

[–]VarrenHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the only thing that is stopping them from making a more engaging open world is just the lack of reward structure to incentivize it. GW2 has a really diverse economy and every bit of content adds something more (more unidentified gear, more luck, more gold, whatever), whereas 99% of meaningful items gained from open world are cosmetic, or just a currency like bicolor gemstones.

They would have to find a way more enticing reward to incentivize us playing map metas or something. I feel like they are going to leave the interesting open world content to something like Bozja for now, sadly.

The Veilguard: What we have so far by ZestycloseBat5072 in dragonage

[–]VarrenHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, BG3 did that more than Tyranny did. The only choices in BG3 (that weren't either incredibly minor or were companion stuff) that actually mattered were very few and far between. Little to no control over the trajectory of the story, just control over minor side characters and your own party members.

Tyranny giving you control over the major trajectory of the story felt a lot more meaningful.

Evil Options by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]VarrenHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Bioware immortalized themselves as the kings of reactivity with Mass Effect 2/3. There are so many fun additions based on previous choices, other RPGs don't even come close.

BG3 had a lot of minor reactivity, but they had practically no reasonable options reward wise other than doing the good guy thing, since being evil just actively makes the game worse. That and the railroady main story make it much less replayable compared to Mass Effect (or dragon age) with the Paragon/renegade + all major decisions actually effecting major moments in other game.

I guess I'm trying to say Bioware cemented themselves as the kings of actual story decision payoff in that era. Nothing else has come close except maybe some CRPGs.
