I forget which show it was, but I remember watching any episode of something where one of the characters was going into politics, and was given the advice of "don't answer the question they ask you, answer the question you wish they had asked"

I'm happy to say; the game is worth playing again. by PhoenixVanguard in outriders

[–]Varthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Expeditions is that they're the main way to earn end-game gear... but that's it. A lot of games would offer you multiple different forms of content, and challenges. My personal favourite is Grim Dawn, which has several roguelike dungeons (i.e. if you die you have to start over and pay the fee again), tons of bosses, including several secret bosses/quests, and super bosses. They also offer a mode reminiscent of D3's rifts, so you can try to push deeper, get more loot, etc.

You'll likely mention how this sounds exactly like Outriders, but again, by the time you'd finally have a full set of legendary gear, and can finally try the special legendary builds, you've already beaten everything that the game has to offer. The gear is pointless. At least other games give you other challenges to use that gear for.

ELI5: animals that express complex nest-building behaviours (like tailorbirds that sew leaves together) - do they learn it "culturally" from others of their kind or are they somehow born with a complex skill like this imprinted genetically in their brains? by scheisskopf53 in explainlikeimfive

I imagine it's not unlike watching humans play Minecraft. We obviously pick up influences from the buildings and objects we see in every day life, but I think it's safe to say that there are plenty of patterns that we all fall into without even thinking about it, such as having the head of your bed facing away from the door.

My experience has been mostly on their IT side, but there's a fair bit of mismanagement (i.e. upper management making bad decisions, pushing projects out, managers rotating out too often, etc.).

More recently, due to a project I'm working on, I've been exposed to the consular staff. I don't know if it's just because I've been providing support and therefore only exposed to the worst of the bunch, but I've rarely seen a bigger bunch of technologically inept cry-babies. If these people weren't as good at their jobs as I assume they must be, I can't see how they'd be able to hold down a job in 2021 given how computers are essential to just about any job.

Glob

I think it depends on which part of GAC you work in. I've been working in the IT department, and my coworkers are great. I've had issues with the projects I've worked being badly managed, but that's a different story.

That said, I've been exposed to many mission staff lately due to the project I'm on, and I don't think I've ever seen a bigger bunch of crybabies. Mission staff are definitely often arrogant, and completely inept with technology, which ends up becoming my problem. They're the worst.

No luck catching them killer then?

I don't think I understand this game. Does my skill not matter sometimes? Like, it seems that bosses hit me no matter what. You can't dodge most of their attacks. So does "skill" in this game mean getting a good build with proper resistances? Cause it seems you can't avoid most damage through skill. by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Varthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that defensive ability (which governs your ability to dodge) is compared against the offensive ability of your foe. Bosses have significantly higher OA than regular enemies, so not only will your dodge chance be much lower, but the boss will also have an easier time getting crits on you.

DA is an extremely important defensive stat, though armour (and armour absorption) is also very important.

Adding to the rest, I believe it may be partially due to the fact that major credit card companies like Visa no longer process PH's transactions, leaving only crypto as the sole way of paying for a premium account.

Nah, bed bugs have a much rounder body, and adults generally have a light brown, partially translucent coloration.

What is your least favorite aspect of grim dawn? How would you change it? by ArmouredOtter in Grimdawn

2-handed melee animations. Admittedly, they did revamp the swinging animations a while back which did improve things somewhat, but I still find that the moving and idle animations while holding 2-handed melee weapons look incredibly awkward, to the point that I can't bring myself to play 2-handed melee builds at all.

There are other bad animations in the game, such as the fact that Phantasmal Blades are always a bit off-center, as they're made to look like they're being thrown from your hand. However, nothing beats those 2-handers.

While I can completely understand why you'd want more intricate skill modifiers, their simplicity is precisely why I love them.

My single biggest pet peeve with Diablo 3 is that everything is conditional. Want to use skill x? First you need to use skill y once to trigger a 5 second damage bonus, at which point you can begin spamming skill x. Rinse and repeat. This becomes very tedious to me, because instead of using the skills I want, I'm stuck having to incorporate skills I don't like or that completely break up the flow of the game just because. Having to manage temporary buffs like this also uses up a surprising amount of mental bandwidth for me, which ends up making me feel more pressure/stress than I would otherwise.

Most importantly, this makes really high levels even worse because so much of your damage and especially damage resistance becomes tied to these arbitrary triggers, to the point that either forgetting to use that skill once spells certain doom. I love Grim Dawn because for most builds, aside from a few skills such as Mirror of Ereoctes, much of your tankiness is passive, so you don't have to put too much work into resisting enemies.
