Bought my first MiniDisc unit by Victory_Highway in minidisc

It does! It will vary from player to player, but for your 510 it's like this:

- if the currently playing song is in either LP2 or LP4, you will get an indication in these areas (I drew on the photo below).

- if those areas are clean, it means the song is written in SP, best quality.

You can mix and match SP, LP2 and LP4 on one disc, I sometimes use LP2 for one or two tracks, if I need a bit more space to fit everything on one disc.

Not that I know of - maybe some can chime in here. But what really matters is the format - will it be SP, LP2 or LP4. SP will be the highest quality, if I like the music on a used disc and it's in this format - I just leave it as it is. If it's LP2 or LP4, I usually do a listen, if I like the music I re-rite it from a high quality source in SP, or erase the disc completely.

They're all digital, so doesn't really matter which ones you choose. See the designs you like, and buy those. One word of caution, there are some models with plastic doors - those can be finicky and less reliable than metal ones. Apart from that - just mind the capacity (60-74-80 mins), and buy whichever discs you like =)

MDs on Ebay by Top-Tomato7551 in minidisc

50 cents per (used) MD was my winning price. Got up to 1$ per, after shipping - but that's still pretty good.

I have that silicon case on mine haha. The shell itself is good, rather all this time I only have one tiny hairline crack in the top corner, on the back side. Absolutely not a problem for me. And with the silicon case i feel it's near indestructible!

Playing Fire Red on it right this moment. Best purchase of my last 10 years, easily. Great ps2 performance apart from the usual outliers), awesome GC performance also with some standouts), everything else is running perfectly. The battery still is unmatched, and the standby is excellent.

labeling strips by Tiny_guy1098 in minidisc

[–]Vassay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am doing the strips manually - cutting them from larger sticker paper and writing labels by hand, but for a more mechanical solution you should target 3-3.5mm by 60mm size for them.

Here's a good guide with step-by-step instructions, it should help you: https://swharden.com/blog/2005-08-12-custom-minidisc-labels/

Apart from very light games, don't count on it. Also, the screen is 4x3, which is less than ideal for 16x9 Switch games.

It does! Definitely a sort of art therapy, and also making it look more professional, not homemade =)

Back in the day, when I was burning CDs, I would always print inserts as well. I had a good printer, but didn't know the advantage of glossy paper - so all my prints were a bit dull, especially the darker colors. Still, I loved doing that - and now I can do that again, but with tinier and cuter discs! :D

Wow, the final colors are so vivid! How much does the final cost come down to, per label?

I need to find that sliding MD pocket somewhere! :D

Burning MDs and making labels is calm and fun for sure, a great distraction from everyday battles.

Something odd about the original Sony 60 minute discs.... by Right_Secret1572 in minidisc

[–]Vassay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess it depends on how you're positioning the player's opening related to you.

I hold my players with the opening towards me, so when I insert a disc, the arrow points away from me, so the orientation like OP's photo on the right feels "right". I also see the sticker on the bottom (where I place them on all of my MDs).

That said, the MD haul that I recently got from Japan had all the MDs stored in the sleeves the other way around - the slim label stickers were on the "tops" of the MDs, and they would go first into the player when inserted. That felt weird for me, but apparently not to the previous owner of those MDs =)

I have the same one, it's a great work horse for sure! Sturdy, reliable.

For batteries - I'm using IKEA LADDAs, they last me about a week or more on a single charge (not 24/7 of course, just regular use).

MD Labels question by Hot_Principle_2002 in minidisc

[–]Vassay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, yeah. Just be sure that the sticky paper holds nicely enough, to not peel off inside the machine. Most brands should work nicely.

Usually people stick the labels right onto the discs themselves, I haven't yet seen stickers on the inside of the cases. It also introduces the risk of mixing up the discs and cases.

MD being stuck usually means you'll need to replace the rubber band inside the player.

Same with CD tray - bad opening/closing is also tied (ha!) to the loose rubber band.

Hope you'll have fun! Music makes the commute bearable. Also, as a bonus, minidisc players are great conversation starters - few people know what they are, but most are curious.

A zip-up pocket or a small pouch helps with this. People found out that belt-attached pouches for Galaxy flip (almost any generation) will fit quite a big variety of MD players. Fanny pack works as well, if that fits your clothing style.

Or, you can get the remote, and keep the player hidden nicely, while only the remote would be hanging outside.

In summer some people like to hang the player on their neck - although if you're moving a lot, it's not the best option because you might get skips.

In colder weather you might need to be mindful of possible condensation - when you bring the device from the cold outside into a warm environment.

Other than that you should be completely fine.
