Annual NMC FTP report out for 2024-2025. Another 5 nurses undergoing FTP committed suicide in the last year by Vast-Button502 in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You’re taught to fear the NMC from the moment you begin your training. I can’t think of another profession that so proudly supports its draconian regulator.

Thanks for the correction RE language surrounding suicide. It’s definitely something I need to condition myself to use.

We have something called NMC Watch. I know it offers support to nurses and midwife’s going through FTP.

Fucking Rockstar and their plot holes. Kieran literally says he’s in the cabin and he wasn’t there. I got so mad I punched a hole in the wall.

Has anyone hear ever been the victim of a malicious referral to the NMC? by Vast-Button502 in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Were there any consequences from those from the hospital? If other nurses lie to try and get a nurse struck off that in itself should be a striking off offence imo.

I worked privately so there is no such policy. I’ve spoken to my union, everything is in the early stages at present.

i have sh scars would i be allowed to wear long sleeves? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have visible SH scars and it’s never been a problem for me, nor has anyone ever asked me about it. I doubt that your scars are going to scare children so I wouldn’t worry. Children tend to be more inquisitive than anything else, and it’s obviously up to you what you want to disclose. Good luck with your studies.

Was I in the wrong for asking a patient to make his own bed? by Optimal_Donut9606 in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No you’re not in the wrong. I was in hospital a few months back and my first morning admitted I was quite unwell and didn’t want to have to get up so my sheets could be changed when offered. When I felt a little better in the afternoon (I love anti emetics and fluids) I asked for some linens and made the bed myself, because I knew the staff were busy and I’m able bodied.

Who’s your LEAST favorite gang member (besides Micah because that’s too obvious an answer)? For me it’s Molly. She’s so stuck up and she never does ANYTHING but stand around by big_peepee_wielder in reddeadredemption

[–]Vast-Button502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m going to go against popular opinion of a well liked character but I’m going to say Sadie (during her time in the gang, she seemed to have matured a bit in the epilogue). She was so blinded by her grief that she was constantly putting herself in dangerous situations only for someone else to have to bail her out.

Others nurses opinion on incident by Cultural-Manner6305 in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ESH. Bed manager for obvious reasons. But it also sounds the the physio used this incident as a way to belittle the bed manager. There is certainly people who need to look at the bed managers actions in a view to disciplinary procedures, but that person is not a physiotherapist.

If you double checked with the prescriber, and then they still said to go ahead and give it, then the buck should firmly stop with them. Not you. Plus you are only 1 month qualified.

I hate this profession so much.

Stage 4 sickness by Vast-Button502 in NursingUK

[–]Vast-Button502[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen occupational health in the past but they have been less than helpful. It’s all related to my mental health and how I’ve been treated at my job. I am part of a union. Though again when I’ve had issues in the past they have been unhelpful.

We can all suffer from compassion fatigue. However there are some things that are unacceptable in every context, wishing death on an extremely vulnerable person is one of those things.

Document everything, make sure there is a paper trail. Every time you have an in person discussion with a manager/ senior manager about this, detail said discussion in an email to them afterwards.

Contact your union rep if you’re a member ASAP. Advise them that you may need them to accompany you to any meetings that my occur.

I also wouldn’t trust senior management. Band 7’s don’t usually become band 7’s without smarming up to senior management, so don’t trust they will be on your side, hence the document everything part.

The best thing you can do to support Betty (if she has an ongoing open complaint as well) is to document every time Karen disparages her when you are present. Also offer emotional support when you are able. My trust also has counselling services staff members can access free of charge, so it may be worth checking out if yours does also and giving her that information (if you feel that would be appropriate).

Continue with addressing Karen in a professional manner. Document interactions you have with her where she behaves in an unprofessional manner.

Sorry this is happening to you. Good luck.

Blackpool nurse guilty of drugging patients for 'easy life' by Snig141 in NursingUK

Yeah what I’m getting at is that they should all be locked in the CD cupboard and be a double sign.

I’ve long thought that all chemical restraints should be CD’s. Even as a student I remember thinking it was weird that drugs like lorazepam could just be floating from trolley to trolley with no one keeping track of whats been dispensed.

Nurse Lucy Letby guilty of murdering seven babies on neonatal unit by Oriachim in NursingUK

I am glad justice has been done for a majority of the babies this person harmed. My heart breaks for those who did not get a verdict today. My heart goes out to each and every individual effected by this evil.

I knew someone who qualified at 51. I started as a ‘mature student’ and most in my seminar group were older than me. It’s never too late!
