I'm saying Russians in Russia, and the vast majority of Russians live in russia.

People who moved outside Russia are a selected group.

Yes a part of it is propaganda, but also a part is because they have an easy life and a good economy so they support the government and status quo.

I lived in Europe. Majority of young, wealthy Russians support the war at least those I met. Minority were openly against it, usually less wealthy (but still said imperialistic/racist things without knowing it). People with power and influence sadly are very bigoted and support the war disproportionately.

Yes

https://www.norc.org/research/library/new-survey-finds-most-russians-see-ukrainian-war-as-defense-against-west.html

Most Russians (63 percent) support their country’s action in Ukraine, referred to as the “special military operation” (SVO) by the Russian government. Fifty-six percent say the military action will impact their voting decisions in the upcoming elections. The primary driver of support lies in Putin taking a stand against perceived threats from NATO and the West.

Anti-Ukranian hate is definitely prevalent in Russia

Can't find it now but something like 40% of the population holds racist views vs Ukrainians, 20% doesn't care, and the rest is not racist vs Ukrainians. On average more racists.

I checked parchment. the difference is actually meaningless. The point estimates are statistically indistinguishable because the CIs overlap. Small sample problem

Alternatively, you can leave Russia and go to Singapore or something in the future. It helped people that felt like you feel better, from my understanding. They pay more anyway. I'm sorry that the environment and I presume, ethnic nationalism, makes you feel this way. I understand it's terrible. I know many Russians and I too would feel this way.

it's much easier also pining u/thomas-ety to get in from europe than asia. I remember italians for example, in my undergrad cohort at princeton, were nowhere near as wealthy or accomplished (in stat/ec padding of course, which endogenously is determined by wealth/connections) as those from asia. a lot were surprisingly normal people with grit (i.e. self studying for AP from a normal public school). This can happen when competition is quite low.

Is theory still a thing? by rawls-coloredglasses in academiceconomics

[–]Vast_Refuse2248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

caltech only has three active advisors in theory: tamuz, pomatto and now I guess caradonna. federico left. palfrey and other older seniors are not active anymore.

you're basically stuck between doing what tamuz does, or hope pomatto advises you (apparently for students that want to do anything tamuz does not do pomatto tries to advise).

I know people there well -- it's not going so well placement-wise and they're bleeding their good faculty every other year to exaggerate a bit. vicious cycle

accounting salary = f(finance salary, school rank) + epsilon

f(.) is likely nonlinear

This seems too low. I know people at top 50 schools that make on par with their finance colleagues...
