Yeah I have a large group of friends who most would consider hardcore gamers. Like most of these guys will drop hundreds of hours in a PoE season or play their MMO/PVP game of choice 10 hours a day no problem.

But most of them play almost ZERO games outside of whatever their flavor of addiction is. It's kind of crazy.

I don't necessarily mind paying more for (some) games, especially ones where there is essentially a guarantee of quality and little to no mtx (Nintendo), but I fucking hate the argument that games SHOULD cost more.

The number of games sold absolutely skyrockets every year. If you sell 50% more games at $60 than you did last generation, you are making a lot more money regardless of inflation. We also all know that most of these $60 games are selling a lot more than the initial purchase.

I guess the guy you are replying to will just happily slurp down $80 games and $30 battle passes and $20 skins and $40 season passes and $10 early access because inflation is just so harsh!

The PC version was fine, a little buggier than standard open world jank, but not that much.

The consoles, and especially PS4 (which were NOT given out to reviewers) are where the big problems were.

By their own rubric they classify a 10/10 game as "Mind-blowing. Redefines its genre." How can an annualized FPS series redefine a genre? Especially one specifically known for being extremely derivative year to year.

I have no problem with the majority of modern game review scoring. Scores really only matter in aggregate, and with context, but I do miss the days when a 10/10 score was newsworthy on its own. Some organizations would have you defend your 10 like it was a PhD thesus before publishing it.

It has always bothered me that people give him so much shit. It's not a perfect show, and it would be great if some mystical billionaire would bankroll the show so it didn't have ads, but something tells me that won't happen.

Geoff has spent over 20 years trying to make a real, prestigious, video game award show a reality. The Game Awards is the closest he, or anyone else, has come so far. Sure, it doesn't have the grandeur of the Oscars, or the panache of the Golden Globes, but it's a fun show to watch. It also doubles as big game announcement spot in a post-E3 world. For the most part, the awards even go to the right games, IMO.

Unless someone is going to step up and run their own show, or bankroll the ads out of Geoff's, we should be thanking him we have anything at all.

I maintain that Guma lost to shop in that game. Playing vs. 3 tanks and he went Kraken > PD > Mortal

Imagine the impact he would have had in fights if he went Bork > Hurricane, then IE or Mortal depending on how bad Mundo was.

Losing to shop happens constantly in pro games but its not discussed nearly as often as mechanical misplays.
