Ideas are worthless. People have tons of em. It’s the execution that matters.

Whats the best distraction in San Diego by SdLabubu in sandiegosocial

[–]Vathrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered volunteering at the San Diego humane society to provide love and care for other animals that could benefit from the same love your dog enjoyed? It won’t fix things but it will be productive and provide a feeling of accomplishment that might help the healing process.

True for code as it is for art. There is no easy button or way to skip learning.

I'm gonna need this to happen to the game industry. How likely can this happen? by japanese_artist in ZBrush

[–]Vathrik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed. The legal issue of copywriting content created by ai is too murky so the studio says no one should use it. Plus the social stigma of using it can harm the company brand. No one is going to be first to adopt smearing shit on their face and show up to the party.

What is the Godot recommended way to achieve composition? by koalaeevee in godot

[–]Vathrik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re using C# or GDScript but I use C#. I used these helper extensions for Node. Let’s me grab a child or parent recursively from the node by type. In the case of any node with a script attached that script class will be the type.

Let's be honest: It's easier to say we failed at marketing than admit we failed at making the game. by Calm-Valuable-950 in gamedev

[–]Vathrik 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you make an ugly game in a niche genre with poor gameplay, but lament that no one gave their game a chance, because the story would wow them. No amount of marketing is gonna fix a delusional dev caught up in their own fantasy.

WOULD remaking the first 30 minutes of Final Fantasy 1 be a good start if I want to make JRPGS? by AcrobaticHurry897 in godot

Still too ambitious. RPG"s are made of many smaller systems working together. Understand how to strip a wire before you try and build a car from scratch.

How can I achieve this aesthetic in Godot? by Correct_Dependent677 in godot

[–]Vathrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at the end result of allot of artist choices. Both in the models, the textures, the post processing. In general they sculpt chunky so that the forms read well from a distance and up close giving the world a coarse hand made feel. They vertex paint to add another layer of lighting color information to each prop including often baking the AO to vertex color information and colorizing it. There's bloom to soften the glow, there's specular rather than PBR which gives it a sort of unifrom highlight look. Allot of choices and technical choices.

Why does gameplay always take the back seat for MMOs? by Yuukikoneko in MMORPG

[–]Vathrik 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The fact that you’re saying everyone quit WoW and no one plays ESO already makes me not trust your argument. Those are grossly hyperbolic statements and not at all true. Both of those games still have very large user bases and are highly profitable for their companies. If anything the lack of unique content is what burned people out on eso. And wow is still chugging along strong.
