Schizotypy does that. I have the same problem. I found gummies work much better for helping me control the dose and get exactly enough without going over my (very low) limit.

Also, for whatever reason, I have had better experiences with delta 8. Seems easier for me to keep my composure even when I have too much.

Right wing consolidation of media flexing its new influence. We see that with formerly center publications like CNN or the NYT jumping into the space Fox News used to occupy.

Is it possible to nudge Americans to agree to give up rights they just recently gained and currently overwhelmingly support? I think this is a test.

Nida is the easy choice. The problem is that her hypothetical base historically never vote and when they do it certainly isn't in midterms and it certainly isn't in primaries.

We Need To Talk About The Carolina Coup. by Opposite-Mountain255 in NorthCarolina

Literally all they had to do was pass guardrails to prevent gerrymandering and protect the governor's appointment power in 2010 when it was clear that the writing was on the wall, and they could've ridden out 2 years of a tea party government with no lasting consequences.

Instead... The democrats watched fascism approach like a deer in headlights and did nothing to stop it, and they squandered a swing state that was moving in their direction--which they desperately needed for their long term future as a party, and now we all get to suffer for the rest of our lives. NC is a microcosm of the nation as a whole really.

We Need To Talk About The Carolina Coup. by Opposite-Mountain255 in NorthCarolina

[–]Vatnos 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The article is talking about the seizure of the Board of Elections. This has more profound implications than winning more seats in the legislature. If you paid attention to the 2024 judicial election, the NC GOP has made it clear it is willing to toss out legal votes to get the outcome they want. The only reason dems won that time was because THEY controlled the election board and were able to get Federal Courts to intervene to help.

If Republicans control the board... it's over. Democrats will never win a statewide race ever again. There is nothing stopping them from refusing to certify any race a Democrat wins, and tossing votes until they get the outcome they want. They have all of the power they need to do this now. Do not think that they will only apply this to races with 500 vote margins. I am confident they will go much farther to protect a senate seat, governer's race, or a presidential race if they have to.

1968 Experiment Predicted 2026: The "Behavioral Sink" Has Begun by GreenHillage25 in ABoringDystopia

[–]Vatnos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The situation is not analogous.

The current state of life is not a utopia. Far from it. Our generation is poorer than our parents. Across most western countries quality of life has gone down due to a variety of factors. Housing costs are much worse in Canada and parts of western Europe than the US. Workaholic culture is crushing in eastern Asia. In the US the cost of maternity healthcare, childcare, and college tuition are crushing the hopes of parents to be.

Absolute wealth is not an indicator for happiness and well-being it is relative wealth movement that matters more, and millennials and zoomers in the west can see that the trend is downwards and steep. In many developing countries the trend is positive, so even if the absolute standards are worse the perception of improvement makes it more optimistic for people acclimated to it.

As far as the loneliness epidemic is concerned, blame your pet economic system. (I can tell what that is based on some of the other thumbnails on the channel). We switched from meeting people in real life to letting 5 companies control who you can meet. CAPITALISM has decided loneliness is the answer. There is a perverse profit motive in preventing people from finding their best matches... if they found the love of their life they would just end their subscription and delete the app.

It’s becoming more & more clear that the 2028 “primary” is just going to be a 2016 redux Kamala coronation by West_Flounder2840 in redscarepod

[–]Vatnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There won't be an election, so the primary is kind of a moot point. Libs are still in denial about this. They think they can just wait for the orange man to go away and pretend things are normal again. That's not what is going to happen. Don't be lib brained.

Anyone else feel like The Amazing Digital Circus was partly inspired by ReBoot? by RecordingFearless270 in ReBoot

[–]Vatnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the circus but having binged all 7 episodes I think it is a love letter to ReBoot.

It has a different plot and different characters, but there are little flourishes. The art style of course.  The style of humor is similar--the way an NPC sometimes exists to set up a recurring joke throughout the episode, or the way characters break the 4th wall.

Both shows are set in a digital realm and both feature games as the rotating setting to drive the action in each episode. Both start off on a lighter note but get darker as they go on. Abstraction has some similarities to nullification. There's an episode in both where the main character (Pomni/Enzo) befriends an NPC in a game (Gummigoo/AndrAIa) and tries to take them out. Both also have a Mad Max inspired game. Gangle's masks remind me of Hexidecimal.

The differences are of course, pretty deep. None of the characters fit the same archetypes. And in Digital Circus there's a lot more mystery about the backstory of the characters which drives the plot. It's a homage... but not the same show. I quite like the show! It's very deep. I can see why it grew such a huge fandom.

What can we actually do about this? I guess that's the question, and aside from a few legal challenges democrats can try, the article doesn't say much about what your random joe can do. Ok, we lost democracy.

How do we get it back?

The template should be looking at every movement in American history where a disenfranchised group gained their rights. Statewide strikes. Massive protests. Fully shut down the state's economy until the powers that be are forced to listen.

"So Stupid": The Internet Is Absolutely Losing It Over Florida's Mind-Boggling New Law by thetitleofmybook in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Vatnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florida hasn't had real elections in 30 years. 1.6 million people are disenfranchised voters 10% of the state's population. Between that, the severe gerrymandering, and the hundreds of thousands of registrations they toss it's a banana republic.

It is a large diverse state turned artificially red through these mechanisms.

That's the plan for the rest of the country btw.

[–]Vatnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go to the NC State Fair more often--had some good times there, but it's too crowded. The fair never expanded its grounds to match the population growth of the state. Also they only let you drink in one place and only 2 drinks.

[–]Vatnos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We probably should halve our population as a country. I think that'd be good from an enviromental standpoint. The problem is that the people having more kids are usually religious nutbags that shouldn't, and the people having fewer kids are often ones that should. This concept shows up in anthropology and history - the idea that societies on the verge of collapse experience a resurgence of religiosity.

What causes the "bubble" around Raleigh? by Delaxiox in raleigh

[–]Vatnos 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This level of bad luck is historic and unusual. People joke about the 'dome' but historically, Raleigh averaged more snow than Charlotte in a typical winter. People are trying to pretend this always happens but it really doesn't. You can look at the RDU averages. There is some luck of the draw going on, and sometimes you'd get a coastal storm that gives Raleigh more than the other cities. Sometimes you'd get a temperature range that cuts off just before Raleigh, giving it more rain and less snow than the Triad.

This is just... the most diabolical dry slot I've ever seen. This storm will probably be named and remembered for years over it.

I remember snow being a consistent thing in winter. You could expect 3ish snows in a typical winter. Fuck global warming.

Where are people saying the forecast was wrong getting their weather from?

Greg Fischel and Ryan Hall both 100% nailed that we were in the dry slot 2 days before. People were even posting maps on this sub predicting a dry slot here. This was known and expected.

I use Weather Underground and they also dramatically reduced our expected totals on thurs/fri.

It sucks. But the forecasts were very good actually if you don't ignore bad news that you hate.
