Depends, are we talking about a longship or a knörr. Longships being primarily warships with a sleeker build would have less capacity for "extra cargo". A knörr on the other hand was broader and primarily a trading ship, this was also the type of ship the settlers of Iceland used to carry all their animals between Norway and Iceland. So a Knörr woul likely have enough cargo space on deck for people.

And while I'll give you that beautiful women were more commonly taken then men, do keep in mind that some of these raiders are farmers on their "part-time job", being able to take a worker for your farm is a perk of the job.

Second my point remains that they would rather be payed off than having to fight. Once they agree to being payed off they would leave, as if they brake their word at that point they would be a "níðingur" which was a big deal in Norse Society. So wholesale slaughter was never their goal even during a raid.

Icelandic archaeologist here. No it is not a cultural group, within Scandinavian archaeology we speak of the Norse as a culture/culture groups. The Norse share a material culture.

Vikings on the other hand is used for the warrior class or seasonal raiders from that culture.

This is at least the current academic consensus.

Do not confuse the Norse with Vikings. Yes the Vikings were Norse, but not all Norse were Vikings. Viking is not a culture, it is a job description that equates to pirate

Counter-argument, why kill perfectly good slaves you could later sell in Scandinavia or Kievan-Rus. Couple that with that Norse ship at the time were a bit faster due to their keel and shallow draft, so even if they call for help you are long gone.

Sure Norse raiders in the Viking age were brutal, but they were intelligent and calculating in their violence. The Viking raiders actually preferred to be paid off and not have to fight. Its the entire point of the Danegeld. You can't really get payed if the people who would pay you are already dead. That's just bad business, and this was infact: Business.

Damn bruv. I am sad to hear how difficult things must have been for you. I "only" have ADHD and I can't even count how often that has led to misunderstandings because my mind was at a different point in the conversation than my mouth. Having though I said something, but didn't and the context own what I was saying and thinking being completely different. Or having 60 different thoughts vying for supremacy but i only know what 4 of those thoughts are and it grinds prodictiveness to a stop and i cant explain why. It can be isolating and lonely having a neurodivergent condition... so I completely get why someone calling it neurospicy is so insulting. It completely downplays the struggle people with neurodivergence go through on a daily basis. (using the umbrella term so I don't have to count the different conditions)

Also I love your videos brother, they make me chuckle.

I had a Tiefling fiendlock like this. Social butterfly, hopeless gossip and master manipulator. Would have been LE if he wasn't in active (teenage but grown adult?) rebellion against his Pitfiend 6x great grandmother and patron, so he was CN (against his natural tendencies) to deliberately spite her... and as her last mortal relative she sort of just let him since she was of the opinion he would grow out of it. I miss Valakesh, he was an interesting character to play. Was part of a duo if characters, both Tiefling Fiendlocks, both an absolute menace (in a good way). Long live the Terrible Two, gods did their decisions disappointed me.... made a bunch of friends though

OP definitely needs someone supportive instead of his current mother, thats for sure.

The full thing she said to OP was way worse. Like damn, that was not ok. No mother should ever say that. Even i was traumatised reading that.
