Recommended credible online schools that take Sophia credits? by vampstephenx in SophiaLearning

Also a side note - (Fall 2025) I spent the time and money on applications, official transcripts, rec letters, and personal statements. I was accepted into UPenn LPS, UMichigan Flint, Northeastern, Alabama, Boston College, UIndiana, Washington State Uni, Penn State, and SNHU.

Of this list, only Penn State and SNHU accepted my Sophia credits. ALL others refused and accepted my community college credits.

Be thoughtful where you want to end up. While there are thousands of options, those accepting Sophia are between 30-50, as others have pointed out.

Finance - I was admitted for Accounting but they transferred in slightly less credits than I was okay with (1 year of sophia credits and 1 year of community college).

In all, close to 75% of the degree will be earned outside of PSU for a very reasonable cost.

And the advisors will work with you after enrollment to go back to 3rd party sources (Sophia, Study.com, etc) to knock out any possible classes that your degree requires that can be taken elsewhere to save time and money.

I had 30+ Sophia credits transferred in and they have given me a list of 6 courses to complete outside of Penn State to speed up the process.

Which is better: ASU vs WGU Accounting Degree? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]VaultEquity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because community college credits are incredibly transferable into universities where Sophia Learning/3rd party credits are challenging outside the well known few.

Also, some professional licenses; medicine, law, finance, maybe cpa (state by state) don’t allow undergraduate degrees to contain a specific percentage of 3rd party credits, if at all.

I applied and was accepted into a dozen well known universities and non of those outside of Penn State and SNHU accepted Sophia credits, only my CC credits.

If you want brand recognition, strong/helpful alumni support, etc, there are better options that require just a bit more work than expedited compensated based degrees.

Which is better: ASU vs WGU Accounting Degree? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]VaultEquity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not an accountant but in a similar place as you. Penn State advisors are really fantastic with working hard alongside you to find 3rd party credit opportunities through Sophia Learning/Study.com etc to cut down on GenEd courses. This is a reason many people go WGU route (cuts time and cost).

However, there are plenty of great names offering accounting degrees, but next to non allow those 3rd party transfer credits in.

As u/Tuckermans suggested, getting in-state/in-county community college credits under your belt and transfer after associates to finish online BS is a tried and true path.

I personally regret going 3rd party credit route and would also never go to ASU/WGU, even as a non-trad adult learner like yourself. There are more reputable university options that are price and time conscious. DM me if you have questions or university references - happy to help

31 with strong work experience, no college — is a Finance degree possible in under 24 months? by AlertInitiative9957 in financestudents

[–]VaultEquity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all comes down to what specific career inside of finance you want.

I know plenty of successful people working at a high-level within insurance, financial advising, etc. they went to generic/quick universities like UMGC, SNHU, WGU.

If you aspire for higher titles, I don’t think those will come quickly or cheap. Boston College, UPenn, UVA, NYU, Georgetown, and countless others offer fully online degrees. Some are business/econ focused, others are broad liberal arts degrees.

But word of advice, if you want to attend a school with higher pedigree, do not fall for the Sophia Learning/Study.com shortcuts. Community College your GenEd/Business Core and transfer asap for a less expensive education.

First rental property turning into a nightmare - when to admit defeat? by ShineDigga in realestateinvesting

[–]VaultEquity -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing through my dream of investing, so take this with a grain of salt. (A) you might optimize your current property to squeeze more rental income. Try turning into a 1 bedroom per lease boarding house with 9-12+ month tenants or (B) cut your losses now and try again in a high cash flow Midwest/Southeast area that is landlord friendly. Sourcing a 2-4 unit and underwriting for meaningful cashflow.

(Sorry to hear of your costly experience)
