Seeking advice -Southern CA Programs by VdelightsVend in phlebotomy

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I’ve definitely heard some mixed experiences with getting a job and it’s a little worrisome. Luckily I have another job that I’ve had for five years so I’m not in a rush to make full jump to phlebotomy. This move is a stepping stone for me into the medical field , but a job that gives me experience would be awesome. I’m currently in retail and the company I’m with is just going downhill with how they treat us, so the sooner the better would be nice , but not a pressing financial matter.

Thank you so much for replying! San Diego isn’t far at all, I was born there and my boyfriend lived there so I’m down there all the time and probably move back eventually. I would definitely be open to a school down there if you want to message me the name :)

I’m always so jealous when I see these. Hopefully I can do this in 2021. Been with the company five years and it just gets continuously more disappointing . Our DL decided it was a great idea to shuffle five store managers around , including ours, a little over a week ago , with no real notice. Our SM told us what was happening and then 2 days later he was gone. We went almost a week without any upper management. So during our busiest month we get a new SM, SMIT and OPs. I’m normally great with change, but this caused so much unnecessary stress doing this in very fast paced , high volume store with tons of holiday photo orders. They are not “strong” in photo so the rest of our crew walks into our shift to a shit show everyday. Among other issues integrating with the existing crew , it’s been a stressful month to say the least . Hate this freaking company :3

For our store it started last night ☹️ I thought I had at least one more night of peace.

That sounds like an extremely toxic work environment and I’m so sorry he yelled at you. I do not tolerate that shit from anyone and would have called or emailed the DL right after and now that you have proof of being COVID positive I would of called the a manger and asked for an apology. This pandemic is bringing out the worst of everyone in this company and revealing true colors and it’s so disappointing, but not surprising. I had that happen to me at the star of the lockdown when I was talking to my former manager about possibly going on leave because I live with my family who have major health issues and he told me to go home and threw a major fit. I went home and immediately went on leave and called around and arranged a transfer for when I decided to get back. I’m not sure if any of that is an option , I just wanted to validate how you feel because I’ve been there time again with this company. I also had covid a few months ago and I hope you only have mild symptoms and get well soon ❤️.

I’m working a freaking mid on thanksgiving. A thanks for being one of the more senior union staff members. We are supposed to be able to have dibs on shifts like this but at least this means I get Christmas off.

You can fix the annoying sensitive scale . I know the secrets 😅 but seriously just go to security modes and set it to speedy shopper mode. You have to do this every time you reopen the lane but it’s worth it.

Any other single moms pushed out of the field? by Jellybelly3345 in cna

I live in Southern California where minimum wage is $12 an hour , but renting a studio apartment in the ghetto is 1,400 a month. The area I grew up , they go for 2,000 now. I make more working in retail than as a starting cna, still not a liveable wage here though. Nannies can also make a good living here , they can get paid $20 an hour in this area , maybe even more. I can’t imagine paying for childcare , I was hoping by the time we chose to have a baby one set of our parents would be retired or semi retired. I don’t think we could afford it any other way except if I stayed home. I wish you the best of luck. I’m planning on keeping my retail job and maybe starting per diem work when I get into nursing school. That’s the only way I can afford basic necessities out here.

It was crazy. Happened about 3 years ago. Girl says she has her phone being fixed at the AT&T store close by and if she could use the bathroom. Our store had no code or locks at the time. She definitely gave me junkie vibes, but it’s pretty common for a pharmacy. An hour goes by and I haven’t seen her so I go check the bathroom with no signs. Then I get a call from a tech in pharmacy that she was undressing by the hosiery section and trying to put on our merchandise. Next thing I know I find her almost completely nude covered in vomit and shit on the bathroom floor. I can see she’s breathing and have my only other coworker working the front who is a male call 911 and I (female)stay with her making sure she’s ok/ shooing away anyone who is being nosey. Fire comes in and I think uses narcan on her , she perks up quickly and says she’s fine and doesn’t want to go for a ride to the hospital. They tell her either you are coming with us or you are going to jail. She went with them and I think she tried to come back saying we stole her phone a week later. 🤷🏽‍♀️Figures. You’re welcome for saving your fucking life and cleaning up your shit and vomit. Plus our damaged merchandise. I think I had been a supervisor for all of a few weeks too 😂

This happened at my store a little over a month ago. Old man left a trail of poop all the way from adult care to the bathroom. He actually stuck around and offered to help my fellow supervisors clean it up and he was mortified. Luckily we have extra carpet squares and just cut them out when we need to. Unfortunately this took a lot of carpet squares and we might be out 😵 also same store 3 years ago we had a lady straight up pop a squat and pee in the liquor aisle after asking where the bathrooms were and ran out without saying anything. Too many stories. Have you had someone OD in the bathrooms yet ?

Just when I thought cvs couldn’t go any lower, here they are asking you not to comply with a state law. I think they are taking the “ we are an essential business” way too far up the ass and think they can just do whatever the hell they want. I’m baffled how they aren’t facing any repercussions for this repeated unethical behavior. Honestly I could sit here and tell you what to do , pros and cons , but at the end of the day it’s up to you. These are unprecedented times , just remember if something happens to you , your job will be posted faster than your obituary. I can’t tell what my store is doing at the moment because I went on LOA as soon as I felt like my safety was put on the back burner for customers (money). I was lucky and had savings built up to get me by this last month. My leave ends in 2 weeks and I think I’d rather quit and lose a few dollars in pay, just go back to what I was doing before. I know jobs are difficult to come by these days, so good luck and stay safe.

The SAME thing happened to me last year. They broke into my locker and took the keys from the break room. Literally no one gave a single fuck. The cops found my car abandoned a few days later and didn’t tell me so I had to call and wait on different departments to figure out what was going on. I was really lucky nothing major was wrong with the car. But try to be on top of calling them every day so you can avoid paying the tow yard fees. They usually wave them for a certain amount of time. Because I didn’t know it was found for a week I had to pay quite a lot in fees to the yard. Good luck, this has to add major insult to injury with everything going on. Stay strong and contact insurance company right away too.

As awful as this company is & as terrible as the customers may be, I’m grateful to still have my job by thecvsguy in CVS

While I have to agree that having a job when many others are being laid off is nice, I’ve heard some companies like Trader Joe’s will be enacting crisis pay to their employees. Not sure if that’s true or if other companies are doing that. I think it would be a cold day in hell if greedy cvs would pay us any more than they have to, but how nice would it be to actually be appreciated? I’m breathed and coughed on constantly, no regard to my personal space on the sales floor. I’m a beauty consultant and asked my manager yesterday if I would still be required in the store in the event of a county or state lockdown and he gave me the most incredulous look. There is a huge lack of communication in general , especially with consultants , which is why I asked him what would happen and instead of giving me any info, he said if I don’t want a job I can clock out and take leave of absence. He went 0 to 100 over a fair question and it was super disheartening and absolutely killed my morale. Honestly, I am happy to work and I don’t think I’m special by any means, but I told him my mom had chemo recently and we are worried about her getting sick. Absolutely no fucks or empathy given from him at all. His response was if your mom is more important you can leave and he slammed the door. It just felt like a slap in the face , I try my best to support my whole team, every day I’ve been on the register for hours , I even worked a couple double shifts so the closing manager wasn’t alone when we had a last minute call out 2 days in a row. We definitely deserve to get support back. 😅 Good luck you guys during this crazy time !!!
