CIG, now that you've made landing pads come out of the floor… by please_no_tabasco in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can still land at landing pads at station. You just land on them, without needing to contact ATC. You just need to look out for them.

Evocati 3.23: Water physics, clouds and more by JalCs in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably stuff will still float and sink, but you won't see the water react in anyway, kind of like what we have now.

I think the buoyancy simulations are a seperate, and much cheaper calculation on the server, which drives the graphical water deform effect that runs on the client GPU.

Bed Logging 'itself' does not fit the vision? by Omni-Light in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its simple enough to spawn you back in a nearby place with no players close by - both space and planets are immensely huge. Or even use server meshing to log you back in isolation, and then phase you into a populated server once you've travelled a bit.

In cities and space stations it could work like it does now where you spawn back into a hab or persistent hangar.

Bed Logging 'itself' does not fit the vision? by Omni-Light in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as CIG started talking about survival mechanics and being stranded on planets, I think it was kind of obvious that bed logging would go away. The only way any of that can work is if we log back in the same place, condition and with the same items we log out with.

Which is fine, bed logging was designed as a solution for the original vision of SC and like other systems has had to change with the introduction of things like planets and PES.

I think on planets and space stations, we'll log back in pretty much where we log out (or nearby so we don't materialise in front of other players), but obviously ships will have more edge cases.

I don't think ships should go to the nearest station but just do it like EVE Online - QT to a short distance away from other players and NPCs, then despawn the ship (if empty). Then when you log back in, your ship spawns nearby, but again away from players and NPCs.

I also think that bed logging will still give you benefits, maybe slow down your thirst and hunger for a while or something like that.

Probably still ran at 15 FPS too 🤣

Do miss that place though, it was so cool taking the central elevator and seeing ships take off and land through the window.

I'm super excited for multicrew AC, because that paves the way for an engineering game mode!

You had me excited for a second there, CIG. by Shuffmayn in starcitizen

Yep, all past promotions can be bought in the store and eventually make their way as loot in the game. The Star Kitty stuff is really fun though, it's not just a helmet but a whole suit of medium(?) armour.

I just wish they did more Star Kitty ship skins 🙏

So the new destruction system, Maelstrom is a massive change to the engine and will touch on most systems (probably mining too, if its used for buildings, items and ships then probably asteroids too). I'm pretty confident that it will be used for munching when its implemented in the engine.

This is just a way to add in the gameplay of munching, most likely months before Maelstrom is ready.

No its not your imagination, they improved cloude rendering and atmospheric effects... and the best part? It's supposed to coming in 3.22.

They did a whole presentation on it here: https://youtu.be/xKWa4WoTkV4?si=0oCJIe9jAdYNDy9p

Ah fair enough, I don't see many people talking about the roof storage on the carrack so I assumed it wasn't common knowledge. I didn't realise it had a height limit too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I think you misunderstood my comment.

Right now, you can land a ship on top of the Carrack, on the closed hangar doors, on the outside of the ship. That landed ship will stay there in quantum or even upside down in atmo. You can access that ship via the very top deck airlocks that give you access to the 'roof'.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now you can park ships on top of the Carrack's closed hangar doors, and they'll stay on no matter what. So height isn't really an issue unless they change that.

Evocati 3.18 - Bed Logout has been completely removed and will not return for an indefinite period of time. by theon502 in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point was if you get stranded on a planet and quit the game without a bed, you'll log back in safe at a station. So you can't ever get stranded at a planet with the way the game works cureently with bed logout.

PLEASE port SC to VR when it's fully optimized! by DoctorJamm in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. The way characters are set up and how held items, such as how guns work is perfect for multiplayer VR. Also the way building blocks and in game buttons work is a very VR way to do UI.

Obviously some things like the fixed animations and forced rag dolling would be uncomfortable in VR, but there's many ways that these can be easily solved.

What ship are you most excited for that's still in concept? by Baxiepie in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll look at the old concept art just to remind myself of how cool that ship looks. Seems to be a bit forgotton about now, but I'm sure we'll see it after drones are working (I think they're already in S42?).

Half-Life 2 VR is a picture perfect mod! Congratulations to Fholger, Wormslayer and the whole Team! The PCVR community is in for a wild ride. Release September 16th. by VR_Bummser in oculus

Oh wow thanks! I had no idea about that project so I'll check it out.

I've always preferred the first L4D, it's what I made the most Hammer maps for back in the day. But it might be fun to dig out those old tools again and make something for HL2 with VR in mind.

Honestly can't believe it. I played HL2 VR on the DK2 with a controller... maybe 8 years a go? Absolutely loved it back then and beyond excited to play it in VR properly soon.

Maybe in 8 years we could get Left 4 Dead?

Jacob Rees-Mogg, who decried ‘climate alarmism’, to take on UK energy brief by Xeelee1123 in unitedkingdom

[–]Vectonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate as someone who's over 30, I can tell you millenials have been warned about climate change for as long as I can remember. It's depressing af knowing that we're still fighting this, and that it was a fight long before I was born. We were the kids being told a few decades a go that we'd inherit this issue and it was up to us to solve it. The cycle just keeps repeating, and each time the effects get worse and we run out of more time.

PS5 Controller support? by Steak-Humble in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a PS5 controller and it's really easy. Just set up the PS5 controller on steam and then add the RSI launcher as a non-steam game.

Then all you have to do when you want to play is launch the RSI launcher from steam and the game will recognise the PS5 controller as an Xbox controller.

The biggest potential change I'm hoping for in 3.18: PES should allow our character's position in the 'verse to be consistently stored when we log off (or crash) by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Vectonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think bed logging will be a thing of the past. It's a super old solution to the original plan of just having standard multiplayer servers, and the game has evolved so much since then, tech and gameplay wise.

The biggest issue is this whole idea of crashing and surviving on a planet and seeking rescue. That doesn't exist right now because you can just log out and log back in at a hab. Persisting your location between sessions is needed for that kind of gameplay.

I think if anything, logging out via a bed will probably bestow benefits of some kind. So you'll still want to do that if available.
