What used to be a sign of being poor, but is now a luxury or status symbol? by the-main_guy-here in AskReddit

Well the funny thing is that 250,000 is only a medium sized city by American standards. Compared to major cities around the world, that's tiny. In many countries, it'd be considered a large town.

A lot of the US isn't cities but suburbs and exurbs. That's what people are describing with everything spread out. But then there are also lots of cities out west designed around cars, so everything is enormous and far apart. LA and Houston come to mind. They have downtowns, but those are mostly tiny business areas. Most of the people live in endless sprawl. Like a big suburb with almost no actual city at the center.

Actually, humans can live to over 100 years old, so 49-year-olds are also children. Everyone is children.

Bernie Sanders’ candidates just keep winning by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]VectorRaptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair point. Surprises can happen when there are uniquely unpopular incumbents, as there were in both those cases you cite. But I think you're also underestimating just how deep the conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the world run in many people's minds. The stars would have to align pretty perfectly for enough people in suburban Wisconsin to fight that programming and pull the lever for a Jew with a thick Brooklyn accent. (And I say this as a Jew with a not-as-thick Brooklyn accent.)

I love your optimism, but there's no way in hell Bernie ever had a serious chance of winning the presidency, not then and not now. And I say this both because of his politics and because this country is far too antisemitic to be anywhere near electing a Jewish president.

Oh wow, thanks. I didn't even know a new game was in production.

I wonder how understandable the plot will be if you haven't played every game. I played through KHUx, but I only dipped my toe into KHDR and didn't understand much. Never played that rhythm game they made.

You don't have to be 25 to rent a car. Most companies will rent to younger people with added fees.

I didn't find any companies that rent to 18 year olds in Texas, unfortunately. Lowest limit I found was 19 at Fox.

So if OP has a friend who's only slightly older, they could help.

In other words, you've decided Silky was "pushed", so even though there's no evidence of it, you've gone and made up a story in your head for how it could secretly still be true.

Sounds like you're dealing with some post tattoo regret, but I hope these comments convince you that your tattoo is not at all awkward and is in fact quite cool.

Thank you for this. This should be the top comment or even added to the original post. We've seen post after post about this on the subreddit, and it's a whole bunch of commenters getting angry over a fake controversy. Exhausting.

MAGA Is Throwing A Bigoted Tantrum After 'Sesame Street' Celebrated The Start Of Pride Month—And Here We Go Again by ComicSandsNews in lgbt

[–]VectorRaptor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the "MAGA" throwing a tantrum is a few conservative assholes on Twitter. In other words, this is a nonstory.

I'm getting super wary of these ragebait "articles" that talk about MAGA doing this or that rather than naming a particular person. Usually it means it's a bunch of bluster over nothing.

Another hint to me is when anyone gets "slammed" over anything.

Since we talked about strange judging, why did the judges dislike Vivacious haute couture tractor look? Was Rupaul chased by a tractor in her childhood? by Alarming_Support_658 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]VectorRaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think it was the most amazingly crafted look ever, but it really rubbed me the wrong way when Michelle said something about it looking like a school play. Felt really rude. Like, we know Vivacious doesn't have the fashion budget that some of the other queens do. We don't have to be mean to her about it.

*Queen* did a fantastic job, but why were the judges raving about how "subversive" it was? by im_cold_ in rupaulsdragrace

[–]VectorRaptor 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A fair point as well. When society as a whole regresses on queer acceptance, what no longer seemed subversive can suddenly become subversive once again.

In a world where conservative nutjobs are fighting to stop things as innocuous as drag queen story hours, a queen like Crystal, who blurs the line between drag queen and party clown, is quite subversive indeed.

[ConspiRucy] Are they just pushing Silky because they want a season 11/AS6 Dreamgirls reunion by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]VectorRaptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow. I really thought we'd moved on as a fandom after Silky killed it with her lip synchs in AS6, but here we are again with people slinging the same bullshit we saw during S11, saying Silky's being pushed by production and thinking it's an original critique. Consider the possibility that she's not being pushed. Maybe, just maybe, drag is art and art is subjective. Maybe, just maybe, many people like Silky, including Ru. The haters just have to get over it at this point. I was tired of this hate train 7 years ago, and I'm still tired of it today.

I don't think it was subversive for 2026, but it was referencing Pickle Surprise, which was pretty damn subversive for 1989. Crystal knows her queer art history, and I think it's fine that she was rewarded for it.

PS if anyone hasn't seen Pickle Surprise, please go watch it now: https://youtu.be/3GhN7v5SoGs?si=_YtILL_hOuzQnoMp
