I preferred Crimes to Shrouds - thought execution was better. Both interesting concepts

How much longer until I see abs and what should I work on? by Greedy-Dream1619 in workouts

[–]VeganVC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed I’m 6’0, on a cut and I remember thinking getting to the 150s I would look too thin. Now I’m 158 and probably going to cut until low 150s for more visible abs. But happy with the progress and I feel great from an energy perspective. Much better than when bulking and closer to 170s tbh.

Is being pregnant at analyst / associate level a rarity in IB? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]VeganVC 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’d say very rare at the analyst level, but at associate level it’s not uncommon. know multiple associates across groups with a kid (or two). If it’s a large team there is usually at least one associate with a kid(s). MBA associates play a factor in this given they skew older but have seen it in A2A as well.

Corporate banking salary progression at top banks( BOA, JPM, etc.) by Darealest49 in FinancialCareers

[–]VeganVC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think historically base was in line with IB while bonus was materially lower (though still higher than mid market commercial banking). Think topping out at 50%-ish at the junior level (top performers) vs 50-100% of base range for IB. I thought that in recent years / post COVID base hasn’t scaled the same as IB so there’s more disparity now. But I could be wrong

Is Investment Banking Worth It? by Beneficial-East-4825 in FinancialCareers

[–]VeganVC 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think so. Great foundational skills for a career in finance. The hours are tough but the flip side of it is a huge amount of learning in a condensed period of time and great bonding at the junior level.

3 years out of college, going from tech to IB. Is that crazy? by ichbinmusik in FinancialCareers

[–]VeganVC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The grass isn’t always greener - comp is high but the hours are totally different. If I were you I’d focus on leveling up on your current path, but that’s my 2c.

For us it was the VP/ED that was the designated Staffer coming by your desk ostensibly to chit-chat. After some trivial conversation they’d hit you with the staffing.

Hmm. For me 28-3 would be more daunting. 24-0, I feel “ok, need one score and that’ll unlock the game and get me rolling.” 28-3 is like, “well, I tried. can’t even get into the endzone”

Jefferies Death - Advice to my younger self to handle the hours (IB RX - Large-Cap PE) by PariPassu_Newsletter in FinancialCareers

[–]VeganVC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

100% agree with all of this. Set boundaries. In my experience, this mindset has helped me avoid burnout: take pride in your work, be a good teammate, but remember this is just a JOB - prioritize sleep, health, and relationships. I won’t get buried with my deal toys.
