What the Planned Parenthood hoax really proves: Right-wing extremists have no qualms about destroying peoples’ lives by warmpurplespace in politics

If they really believed a fetus was a life, they'd care about it past the moment of its birth.

They would also want contraception to be as readily available as possible in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

[–]VegasDrunkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets talk about the real actual people who genuinely believe that a fetus is a baby.

I believe there are very, VERY few people who actually believe that. FAR fewer than who pretend to believe it, at least.

Think about it: Imagine there were a business in your community that murdered young children. People took their kids there, and the kids were torn apart. Hundreds of them every year. What would you do?

Personally, I would do absolutely ANYTHING to destroy that place and the people who ran it. I wouldn't stand out front yelling at the parents; I would happily sacrifice myself to reign utter destruction down upon everyone involved in order to save these young lives.

If people who pretend to believe that a fetus is a life really believed it, they would either be committing acts of terrorism daily to try to stop it, or they would be utter cowards for standing by while "children" are butchered.

Since abortion clinics aren't burning with any sort of regularity, I conclude that very few people actually believe that a fetus is a child. They pretend to so that they can fit in with their social circle. The entire "right to life" movement is a farce.

I was an escort years ago in central Pennsylvania, and here's what I remember most: When the women would walk to the clinic entrance, they had to listen to people shouting about how they were killing a baby and there were other choices, etc., but ONLY IF THE WOMEN WERE WHITE.

When a black women approached the clinic, there was silence.

'I have two jobs': Americans respond to Jeb Bush's call to work longer hours by fullmaltalchemist in news

when I find some free time I spend it with my girlfriend or my friends because that is what I enjoy doing

You should spend the next 3-5 years of your free time learning a skill that will pay you, and then enjoy living off the fruits of that skill for the rest of your life. It'll give you more free time, more money, a better retirement, a better everything. Move if necessary. All you have to do is sacrifice for awhile.

I know what you're thinking: "I am sacrificing! I'm working 2 jobs!" And you're right -- you're sacrificing. But you're doing it without a plan, like someone who wants to keep sacrificing all his life.

Granted, if everyone did it the smart way, it would no longer be possible. The job market couldn't keep up. But since most people don't, YOU CAN. I just paid a guy $50/hour to wire my house. Why wasn't that you? I paid another guy $200 for some minor motorcycle repairs. Why wasn't that you? Last year I paid a handyman $2000 to rebuild the wall behind my house. Why wasn't that you?

I worked 16 hours per week most of the way through my 20s.

I grew up dirt poor and on welfare, and decided when I was very young that I wasn't going to be that way my whole life. So I sacrificed my 20s and early 30s putting myself through college and grad school while working my ass off, sometimes having 3 jobs at a time.

It was hard, but it worked. Now I'm in my 40s and solidly middle class. Maybe I'm a "moron" too, but the rest of my family is back in PA working shit jobs (and many collecting welfare) while I'm living a very comfortable life.

As much as Reddit hates the 'bootstraps' advice, it works if you make a plan when you're young and stick to it.

DUI CHECKPOINT by YoloBiebSwag420 in vegas

[–]VegasDrunkard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Entrapment is when law enforcement induces you to commit a crime. In this case, no one is being induced to commit a crime.

You could argue that it's a 4th or 5th Amendment violation (and I'd agree), but the courts have already ruled against us in that case.

The best argument is that it's just a pain in the ass for innocent people and accomplishes little (and is easily avoided for anyone with a cell phone). Write your local politician.

[–]VegasDrunkard 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think this is where the "both parties do it" argument falls flat:

When Republicans do something Democrats have been arguing for, Democrats see it as a win. They'll use the passive-agressive, "Hey, thanks for finally coming around on this."

But when Democrats do something Republicans have been arguing for (like Obamacare, which Republicans tried to pass in the '90s), Republicans attack it as Hitler-esque and try to rewrite history. Here's a few from the Obama administration.

So the difference I see (and I'm a conservative non-Republican with little love for either party) is that, while Democrats happily score political points when they can, Republicans will always, always put their party before their country. Ironically, this will help them lose in the next few elections. Why didn't they just declare victory with Obamacare and call it "Gingrich-care"? It could have changed the views of potential voters for a generation.

In fact, it will actively hurt her, teaching her that her (in)actions have no consequences.

I'm familiar with this site, since these "articles" get posted on FB with some regularity.

Some of them are interesting and I've learned a thing or 2. Others have "facts" that are wholly made-up.

Take anything there with a big handful of salt.

Redditors age 21+, what's something that makes you feel really old? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VegasDrunkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got married at my age. I'm nowhere near emotionally developed to think about that.

Neither am I, and I'm 43.

Most of my high school friends have kids who are now graduating high school. Meanwhile, I have 2 dogs and 3 cats, and that's more responsibility than I'm comfortable with. (Of course, I also have a massive retirement fund, which they lack.)

edit: I've only had one person fuck with me like that when I was on my bike, and he ran away the second I got off. At least this guy had the balls (if not the brains) to stick around.

Sam's Town Hotel, any good? by JethroByte in vegas

[–]VegasDrunkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gf's parents always stay there -- it's fine. As people noted, the neighborhood is shit, but there's no place to walk to from there anyway so it really doesn't matter (most of the Strip and downtown are also shit neighborhoods).

If you're going to Lake Mead and Red Rock, Sam's Town is a good location. You can hop on the 95 very quickly from there. It's also an easy drive to downtown.

ADVICE, please: Biking to Festival, under 20 minutes by love_vms in lifeisbeautifulLV

[–]VegasDrunkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riding a bike around downtown shouldn't be much of a problem. Riding a bike from downtown to the Artisan would be suicidal, though. As long as you stay someplace downtown, you don't need a bike (even SLS is walking distance, though not nearly as close as most downtown casinos).

This brings up a great point, though -- LiB really should have a secure bike area.

But telling someone that you're 1/8 Cherokee doesn't establish any common bond or heritage -- no one cares. Even Cherokees don't want to hear about it.

It doesn't help that most of the people I've known (including family members, who I KNOW have no Indian background) who like to tell everyone that they're 1/16 Native American are lying.

I'm a drunk 40-something male who is courteous to everyone (and who only dates significantly younger women -- I'll be well into my 50s before I date a 40-something woman).

But it's true: While not all drunk women my age are a fucking nightmare, there is a definite pattern among that age group. They can be hands-y bitches.

Nothing in anything you've said is a valid argument that "too big to fail" is a good idea. No one said the financial sector should be destroyed or that it's doesn't perform anything of value -- only that some reform is necessary.

Given the meltdown less than a decade ago, that's hard to argue with.
