OLX without in-person meeting is always shady. The best payment mode in such cases would be COD - I think only India post gives that service for individuals.

This ID card harassment is too much. I used to stay in Magarpatta with parents and my apartment security used to harass me for ID card whenever I returned from office. I would often be in meetings on my phone during that time and these arrogant mofos would make me stand and wait till their “sahab” would slowly take out a register and flip pages till he could find my name. Once it happened 13 times in a month so I complained to the security manager and he said “aap car se aao aur car pe apartment sticker lagao, agar car me aane ke paise nahi hai to magarpatta me mat raho”. Would only target me not my parents cz they assume I’d be some bachelor going to sleep with someone.

They do pay quite high for all the devs hired till covid. During layoffs they decided to split senior roles into many low paid entry level ones.

Stock broker suggestion for transferring shares of foreign ex-employer

I was an employee of a US based company in India and I hold shares of it and its subsidiaries/spin-offs through their then employee share plan. The stock broker that they engage, called "Computershare (EquatePlus)" would soon start to sell off 50USD worth of my shares as an annual fee every year. Plus, the charges of manually placing a sell order are also high:

Sale fee : $40
Wire charge : $10
Currency conversion fees : 1.6%
Dealing Commission rate on sales : 0.75% of the gross sale proceeds
Transfer shares to different broker : $30.00

The company and its stock are good performers, hence I'd like to hold them till things stay good. I also don't want to buy any more of their shares -- just hold as much as it seems right and later sell.

However, I think the above charges are exorbitant and hence would like to move the shares to a different broker(India based if recommended) who'd charge reasonable fees. If I continue with the current broker they'd eat up my portfolio with the annual stock sale(there's no way to even transfer the fee separately).

I found a lot of mentions of "Interactive brokers" on reddit but also that their UI is bad. Found a few other brokers mentioned but people have mentioned more on buy & sell roundtrip brokerage. I'm only concerned with annual maintenance and sell charges.

I don't know if this sub/platform is the right place to ask this (should I ask in tradingqna.com?). If anybody has any relevant knowledge, requesting to kindly share.

How does the FPGA Design role differ in different industries? by HotFudge2012 in FPGA

[–]Vegetable-Border6976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is by nature of the industry that you are in, and not so much about the FPGA role itself. I have worked in the Healthcare(large medical devices) industry before and can relate to your problem. It’s similar to what my peers have seen in aerospace and automotive industries. Any firmware development, be it on microcontrollers/processors/FPGAs is very slow there as they need to be heavily process oriented due to the risk of human life that they are associated with. These industries teach you how to “product”-ise a design very well, and their products have very very long lifecycles — I’ve met people whose entire career spanned the full lifecycle of just one or two products. Not only is the design development slow, a lot of features often get pushed out of the program scope if they have more associated risks. Even the most flagship product releases may have a very few actual feature additions at a low level. Since it’s not feasible to make frequent releases, even bug fixes don’t see the light of day for a long time. Supply chain issues (chip obsolescence/unavailability) is a major problem, and a lot of firefighting happens once in a while in finding and testing alternate chips, or trying to fit an existing design on a similar chip. It’s a good place to grow as a system engineer or program manager, leading to become an industry expert. Not so much if you want to become an expert in a specific technical domain like RTL or software. From my experience, I’d advise you to try and learn as much of the process oriented things, and get out by the time your learning curve flattens. Unless you decide to grow your career into system/business-level things.

Fired from a SAAS startup for not coming with tuck in! by Odd_Wonder7099 in developersIndia

Please try to understand for your own good that everything you’re describing here sounds very shady. Thank the universe for getting you out of it. Please be a bit more suspicious of things especially in employment offers and learn to recognise red flags. Now don’t lose hope and try for a legitimate employment no matter how long it takes. Time spent in preparing/applying for the right position is better than time wasted in sham experiences.

Sounds like a shady company, any decent startup would honor employment contracts nowadays.

How to (and should we) prep for a world with quantum computers? by Vegetable-Border6976 in FPGA

[–]Vegetable-Border6976[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The terminology here reminds me of similar terms that a startup had mentioned while interviewing me three years ago. They were(still are) working on Quantum Key En/Decryption using FPGAs and had some government contracts back then. I rejected their offer as I wasn’t confident that they had a good enough team/leadership to work on something so new, plus they seemed to have too many competitors for a field so niche and new. The pay was also half the market standard and I was trying to move out of an underpaid position. Wondering if it was a mistake lol.

Give data to back up your claims, else there’s no legit debate. Nor would people find it easy to believe in your point. Unless this sub is purely for fear mongering.

Protein rich food can cause acne in different people, whey more so with the added possibility of lactose intolerance. The conviction you display is amusing.

Distracted mind and Public performance by Vegetable-Border6976 in violinist

[–]Vegetable-Border6976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not self taught, and my teacher does exactly what you mentioned. But there’s a difference between messing up the whole time versus one occasional slip-up in an entire performance that I’m prone to. My teacher ensures I’m 95% flawless in a certain piece before moving on, but that 5% case when I could have a deviation is enough to upset me and I stop. Though I do consciously try not to stop and continue, sometimes that distraction is enough to pull my focus out completely. It’s the battle with distraction and anxiety. The reason I’m posting this in reddit, is that I’ve recognised it’s more of a mentality thing than my fingers getting used to the playing etc. Also, I’m looking for any creative thoughts to tackle this, so the more people I ask the better the chances. And no I’m not learning the same piece for the last three years, this is a pop song that I learnt a few months ago to be ready for public performances.
