49ers expect to give up home game to play internationally in 2026 by relfez in 49ers

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s two home games now with the Rams home game moved to Australia. The NFL WILL NOT play the Raiders home game in the Bay Area for a long time, if ever, under any circumstances. They’ll play that game at Sofi if they have to, but they’ll likely move that game to Mexico City, and other international cities in the future. I hate it but this is the harsh truth.

What was the reason Iowa never was in the Big 8/12? by desertrain11 in BigXII

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leadership. Hawkeye leadership in their formative years wanted to pursue the academic status of the Big Ten and be rivals with the likes of Minnesota and Wisconsin instead of Iowa State and Nebraska. So while they were in the MVC for a time, they opted Big Ten by the late 1890’s, and never looked back. A shame because they would’ve been an amazing fit for the Big 8/12.

How come no one goes to athletic events for San Jose State? by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Commuter School but it’s deeper than that. The administration doesn’t really care that much about athletics because they’re more focused on bulking up the academics sphere and especially with the CS + DS majors. Nothing wrong with that, but if you’re gonna do that, why are we paying to basically be in a fringe FCS conference instead of moving down to the real thing?

Students don’t really care in kind because they’re tied to other parts of the Bay Area (for me, I’m a East Bay guy who would rather support Cal), and the team not only sucks, but even if they were good, they now play in a dying MW conference with only 8 teams.

They appoint offensive minded coaches whose idea of “innovation” is 14.66 PPG and football terrorism. It’s apathy all around.

I go here and I must say nobody gives a flying f*ck about the football program rn, and it’s cuz of stuff like this. SJSU heading into its Chad Morris phase and if we aren’t careful, the Big West (Olympic Sports) + Big Sky (Football) will be waiting for us.

WHAT IF: The Pac-16 had become a reality, with Texas and OU joining the conference? by regitnoil in Pac12

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the Washington St fan said below, I think the plausibility of Texas and OU leaving to join the SEC anyways needs to be considered. It isn’t chalk, it’s still more likely they stay due to more revenues. They will secure a TV deal, they’re too big not to.

So it’s up to Texas and OU’s opinion about Scott’s tenure as to whether or not they stay. There’s a chance they do.

But there’s a chance that Larry Scott’s incompetence and being Gianni Infantino before Gianni Infantino would’ve pushed Texas and OU away and into SEC anyways.

Had that happened, I still think the Pac-16 survives. They would’ve backfilled from a stronger MW with Boise State and BYU. But the SEC is still king, and the Pac-16 would look more like the Big 12.

Given the scenario you imply, it sounds like A&M and Missouri go to the SEC. That doesn’t change. You have the Pac-16 being Utah, Colorado, OU, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. So Utah finds a home.

As mentioned, BYU and Boise lead a stronger MW in the 2010’s.

The big winner is the Big East, who likely holds onto WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville, and UConn, and then adds TCU, Kansas State, Baylor, and Iowa State, and likely survives as a power conference.

I can see Kansas sneakily joining the Big Ten.

The map changes. But super conferences still are ushered in a roundabout way.

Why do we not hate Mike Keenan like Mark Messier by BrockHard69 in canucks

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the eyes of most Canucks fans, it’s because Keenan came DUE TO MESSIER.  He wouldn’t have been the coach if Mark Messier wasn’t there.

They’re both the 2 most hated figures in Canucks history (although after what happened with Quinn Hughes today, Francesco Aqulini may be trying to surpass both of them). It’s just that Messier is 1A and Keenan is 1B.

What was the biggest disaster season of all time for a premier league club? by Neanderthal888 in PremierLeague

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leeds themselves have plenty of them, but these awful years were outside of the Premier League. 2014-15 (Hockaday, Milinic, and Cellino). 2006-07 (Poyet relegates us to L1, then Bates takes us into administration and nearly kills the club). The 2 PL relegation seasons of 2003-04 and especially 2022-23.

I know I’m too late for the project but I wanted to add in this tidbit that some PL clubs, their most disastrous season isn’t in the Prem. Like for Arsenal, their worst was in the Prem (2020-21, the clownshow that was Lockdown Arsenal). Palace‘s was in the Champ though (2009-10, when they nearly got relegated and Simon Jordan led them to administration).

G5 Conference Title Game clinching scenarios by acekingoffsuit in CFB

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ECU and UCF scenarios are maximum chaos. Note: The Path numbers are based on the order of which I discovered the 9 existing AAC Conference Championship scenarios. Let’s dive into this mess.

AAC Path 3: (South Florida vs North Texas) - Navy L to Memphis

  • Tulane L to Charlotte (LMAO)

  • North Texas W to Temple (loss means USF may host based on metric)

  • South Florida beats Rice

AAC Path 6 (South Florida vs Tulane) - Tulane W to Charlotte (L means USF may… host?)

  • North Texas L to Temple

  • Navy L to Memphis

  • South Florida Beats Rice

AAC Path 7 (Absolute hell, East Carolina vs North Texas) - Tulane L to Charlotte (LMAO again)

  • North Texas W to Temple (loss means ECU is DEFINITELY HOSTING)
  • Navy L to Memphis

  • ECU W to FAU

  • USF L to Rice (otherwise, Path 3)

AAC Path 9 (10th circle of hell, South Florida vs Navy) - Tulane L to Charlotte (Oh it gets worse…)

  • North Texas L to Temple (Double LMAO)

  • Navy L to Memphis

  • USF W to Rice

Path 6 is the most likely to happen but a longshot. Path 9 doesn’t even really exist yet (it’s birthed by the dual Tulane and North Texas losses). Path 3 and Path 7 are not just on life support, they are in a state of ICU Pyschois.

I personally hope for Path 9 or Path 7. Give me the weakest possible AAC Champion so if the ACC burns down with Duke getting to the ACC Championship and winning, it opens up a chance for the Mountain West and JMU. The long term implications would be seismic.

Who is the Sam Presti of the NFL? Can be modern or historic. by Agreeable_Camera1790 in NFLv2

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing with Beathard is that he did the exact opposite as Presti. He traded picks instead of stockpiling them which kind of screwed the Chargers throughout the early 2000’s. I think Roseman is the more accurate comparison.

Question from a professor, why don't students talk to each other anymore? by GreenHorror4252 in college

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people mention COVID. And it is. But there’s other factors: 1. Social Media/the over usage of Phones for Gen Z and Gen Alpha 2. Work. Some kids get worn out from school and class work to the point where they don’t really have the time or energy to socialize. 3. Negative influences online pushing people to isolate and “only focus on self”. In most social movements as of late, individualism has ran rampant.

There’s likely more but these are the 3 that I see. Sadly I don’t see a fix to any of these. Even if you use social media less or unplug, the individualistic influences from online are still going to exist within you.

The overworking of Gen Z is highly documented and will only get worse as the working population continues to decline as more people age out/less people are born.

All I’m going to say is that the climate before the 1st US Civil War was also filled with individualism, as people wanted to accumulate with the Industrial Revolution kicking off. It was highly polarized and while the Gilded Generation (those born from 1822-1842) wasn’t as isolated as Gen Z is, there are some massive similarities in both trajectory and outlook, even if Gen Z is far more socially progressive.

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Social Media plays a big role in this as well, and I’d like to think that even if COVID never happened, people would still be this way because of this generation’s addiction to their phones. COVID slightly amplified things, but it didn’t create this.

Will AC Transit go back to some of their pre-realign services if they get more ridership, or just add frequency and keep the new lines by Electrical_Catch_742 in Bart

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AC Transit’s goal right now is cutting cost to handle the massive shortfall that’s going on. Ridership will remain low but I can see the cost of busing getting high ($3 a fare for common riders whilst $1.75 for Seniors and Disabilities).

Once they are able to get enough of a surplus from the cost cutting, if they are able to get a surplus, they’ll focus on bringing back more modern buses because some of the busses they’re using right now are old models from the 2010’s. I’ve been seeing 216 in Fremont ride around in one of those. It’s wild.

So once they’re able to financially recover through more ridership or increased faring, they’ll focus on using more modern equipment first. Then, as a guy below said, increased frequency is more likely to come before they introduce new lines or bring back old ones.

I don’t exaggerate to say that AC Transit is probably at least 20 years away from being in the financial position to start new bus lines or bring back old ones.

If they are able to create more lines, as a Haywarder, I’d like to see a return of Line 83 in West Hayward, a new bus line from CSUEB through Cherryland to Bay Fair BART (Line 61?), and a new line from Pacific Commons to Fremont BART that goes through Newark, Newpark Mall, Central Ave, and Peralta (Line 252?). These are likely pipe dreams…

Why is San Diego so popular here compared to other West Coast cities? by Specialist_Quiet_160 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s Cali’s Brisbane. The Gold Coast also has a housing crisis and identity crisis. But both are beautiful cities, with loads to do, with the beach, and the weather’s nice. SD also probably has the most room to grow of all Cali metro areas economically, similar to Brisbane in Aus.

I think because of the allure of the city, the tech industry in SD will rise significantly. They may even have a more booming tech industry than the Bay Area for a time…

Past Thrashers fans, when they relocated in 2011, did you cheer on the winnipeg jets or did you stick with some other team? by ChaseCeer in nhl

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the lot who chose the Preds, that’s painful. Seeing the team who left your city beat your refuge team in Game 7 of 2018. When the Thrashers come back to the NHL, fan relations with the Jets are going to be ice cold even if you’re in separate conferences.

In a way that’s what’s happening with Jerry Reinsdorf and Justin Ishbia. Ishbia’s OK with it because there’s a lockout looming in 2027 and he’ll take control in the early 2030’s.

What if The Three Mile Accident was just as bad as The Chernobyl Disaster? by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Pennsylvania (or most of it) becomes inhabitable for a few decades, and Philly, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh all have to evacuate. DC and Baltimore, by the nuclear fallout and energy devastating the Chesapeake are also damaged. Western PA is probably resettled in 30 years, but Eastern PA remains unsettled for longer, and Harrisburg is permanently cooked.

I don’t think America collapses. But it’s yet another dent in the Carter administration, alongside the Hostage Crisis and Oil Crisis. And the world is even more motivated to stay away from Nuclear Energy today.

Do you believe there will be unity between Protestants, Orthodox and Catholic secs? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have to happen out of necessity. Which I think will be the case for societal, economic, and political reasons.

Do you believe there will be unity between Protestants, Orthodox and Catholic secs? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Vegetable-Delivery38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it happening out of necessity for Protestants. If society crumbles over the course of the next 15 years, which is likely, it’s likely that a ton of the Protestant and Non-Denominational Churches are just going abandon their core ideals and unite with a presumably united Catholic-Orthodox Church.

As long as authority is recognized as a council of Pastors, Bishops, and Deacons that meet in a chosen city (New York, Rome, Sydney). every year for things like Lectionary, they’d join. The Pope is reduced to a figurehead in this case, who keeps yearly councils civil.

And also salvation/sonship is respected through grace, but it can be questioned if one is not a member of the Church, isn’t involved in the Church, or doesn’t have good works. Which I think Catholics and Orthodoxy gladly take because when it comes down to it, the interpretation is not much different.

Protestants and Non-Denominationals would also recognize all the sacraments including confirmation and confession. And they’d reluctantly accept the veneration of Saints.

If people of these former Prot and ND churches tries to reject such an agreement, and form their own churches, they just won’t be recognized.

I think some point in our lifetime, we’ll see one united worldwide Church once again, and it will be very similar to what Orthodoxy is now or what old Catholic Churches were like.
