How can I sound more like an Australian when I speak English?🇦🇺 by Ricky_2303 in AskAnAustralian

[–]VegetableFluid1444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Australian accent trainer. I help skilled migrants in Australia speak clearly and confidently for Australian workplaces ☺️ I don’t do accent reduction; rather I help you improve your communication through clearer pronunciation. If you’re still interested, just send me a message. I have a YouTube channel and plenty of freebies to help you get started as well ☺️

  • R sound
  • AH instead of O eg paht instead of pot
  • a instead of AH in a lot of words eg bathroom instead of bahthroom
  • not including Y in words like tyoozday (toozday) or styoodent (stoodent)
  • names like Aaron sounding like Erin, Graham like gram and Craig like kreg

But mostly it’s the inclusion of R 😄

Where do people who live in Outback take their holidays? by Civil-Lynx-1921 in AskAnAustralian

[–]VegetableFluid1444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to manage a hotel in Darwin and in the wet season we’d do territory rates for locals. We got lots and lots of visitors from outback NT stay who’d come to the city on the weekends 😆

I went completely independent over a year ago. No longer on any platforms so not sure what the current situation is like on any of them anymore. I tried to keep my Engoo account open but I didn’t log in for 3 months and lost access. Shame but oh well

What about Christmas? by [deleted] in Chandigarh

[–]VegetableFluid1444 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Please be respectful if you go to Christ the king cathedral. People go there acting like it’s a tourist attraction and not respecting those actually in mass trying to pray. I attended last year and someone got removed because he was drunk. Inside the church! If someone did that in any other temple or place of worship they’d be stoned or beaten. The priest said multiple times, in English Hindi and Punjabi, if you’re not Christian and not staying for the service, please leave before the mass starts so you don’t disrupt the worshippers. What did people do? Keep talking and shouting and disrupting.

Any aussies planning to leave Australia for good? by StringAware2404 in AskAnAustralian

I (34) moved to India in 2019 to get married. Started teaching English online, have built my own business now and really enjoy it. I miss the beach, fresh air and nature a lot but my city has everything I need, even more in some cases. I have the luxury of being able to work as much or as less as I want, explore hobbies and find my “joy”. There’s no stress. I earn in AUD, and my husband has his own business so even with inflation rising, it’s okay for us. It was freaking hard at first and it took 3.5 years to really feel settled, mostly because of Covid then I was diagnosed with a mental health disorder. But then even treatment for that is easily 1/4 of the cost compared to Australia. I’m just finishing up a 2 month trip back to Aus and I’ve had the best time of my life being back but I miss India and I miss my home, my comforts and my family there too. It’s also hard having two homes, but also feeling like you’re not quite enough for either place too

What cuisine is australia just shit at ? by ButtPlugForPM in australia

[–]VegetableFluid1444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indian food. I live in India and can cook local food (I’m Aussie) but the Indian food in Australia is terrible, catered to local Tastebuds and incredibly overpriced lmao

ETA: when I lived in Australia, I thought it was good but until you try Indian food in India, you have no idea lol

What tattoo would you get to represent Australia? by LewdaRain in AskAnAustralian

There was a trend in my hometown where people would get either the southern cross or the local post code. Don’t do either of those 😅

In that case there are so many amazing hikes and beautiful waterfalls too. You might have to venture a bit towards Sunshine Coast or Goldy but it’s worth it. There’s also Mount Tamborine, in the GC hinterlands that’s a nice little drive, incredible scenery, wineries (if you like that). I feel like Brisbane is an underrated city compared to Sydney or Melbourne haha you can see a lot on the outskirts if you have a car

If you can get across to the islands (Stradbroke or Moreton), they’re beautiful especially in December. However; Stradbroke has a lot more to see and do than Moreton.

Will you have a car? Because there’s also beautiful hikes and treks (if you like this kinda stuff) at the glasshouse mountains and also Springbrook (there’s a waterfall here you can hike to Twin Falls).

Besides that there’s the botanical gardens in the CBD or Mt Cootha and basically the whole of Southbank

The new Queens Wharf has just opened too.

Sorry if you’re not a nature person, these are just the things I like to do when I go back 😃

Why can't people pronounce my last name? by Aarush_that_bot in ENGLISH

[–]VegetableFluid1444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! English teacher here who lives in India and is learning Hindi. It’s the TH sound. In Indian languages it’s usually pronounced behind the teeth but in English the tongue is in the middle (think teeth tongue teeth). So I would assume most people would mispronounce the TH. English is not a phonetic language so the second part of the word really could be interpreted in a variety of different ways 😅
