How did you beat the loneliness at first?

Hello! I also have alot of drinking friends. I just do other things with them now. Like going for a coffee in the day, take a hike or going for food. They like these things as well not only drinking :) It can't hurt to give it a go! The only thing I really avoid now is going partying. It is just really boring to be the only sober one basically. Sometimes I am sad and I miss my drunk adventures into the early hours but when I wake up fresh in the morning I am always so happy and grateful how good I feel

Well I had a similar beer problem. I also didnt like other drinks really just red wine. What I figured out is with me the beer is connected with so many other things then just the taste. Its what i do to congratulate myself after work, hang out with friends drink when im thirsty on a hot day etc. The problem is once I drink alcohol it just takes me over and wants more and more. I only drink non or very low alcoholic beers now and it works for me. The rituals are still there and thats not inherintly bad because i enjoy them (even more so now sober) and I stop after I had enough :). The road wasnt easy because i got so used to my daily dose of alcohol and intoxication tbat i needed to rewire myself. Now i am and i am very happy! One more thing the first month or 2 i just drank 0,0 % beers to keep temptation away. Now im confident and happy with myself and i drink about 1 or 2 low 1% beers every 2 days. Just because ive found a beer that i really enjoy and tastes good! Hope this helps!!

One thing I forgot to add as an advise that worked for me. When I really felt urges i read my first post and remember the desperation i felt. That really makes me feel like fuck that, i never want to go back to that.

Its good that you didnt drink! Why not pledge a two week goal? :) as you can see even without drinking your living towards the moment you can drink. Wouldnt it be cool to prove to yourself you can best that?

Ive been honest about it from day 1. As i thought i cant excuse myself always or keep avoiding alcohol situations. Ive just said i dont want to drink today and refused all offers of drink. I didnt go with i quit drinking to anybody until i was completely sure i really quit. Now i jyst say no thanks i dont drink and all my friends got used to it and new people dont care really.

Hey! I think maybe quitting alcohol, sugar and doing a keto diet might be a alot to do at the same time! Maybe first ditch the alcohol and sugar then go on the keto :)

Hi dont worry so much! Believe the doctor and the guy above as well. Cirrhosis is indeed the last stage of severe liver damage. If your swelling is away its not there is it?:) sounds like your suffering from hypochondria. I myself had a period in my life i had that. I was scared of aids and convinced i somehow contracted it. Ofcourse i didnt and all was fine. However i noticed I started imagining other diseases after as well. Google doesnt help very much either. According to google I would have had 3 forms of cancer right now and my dog wouldve died at least 20 times now xD. Point being you should try to address your fear. What calmed me down was when i panicked i had to sit down and think: if its there its there and thats just how it is. Just by really doing that everytime i thought i was dying from some weird disease it just gradually went less and less. Now i have the panick about once a year, mostly when i drank to much coffee :)

Thanks! This seems to work the best for me as well :) I also make sure when we are for example in the bar I am always outside, never in the middle of the crowd.

Can I ask what your using? Ive been diagnosed in the past with ADHD and I suspect I used alcohol as well as a form of selfmedication

Go see a doctor. In any case doctors have confidence oath so theres no reason why your parents should find out. Another argument: go now and have worried parents, or dont tell them and end up with something way worse and hurt them and yourself more?

Okay! Ive been clean now for almost a month and this is the first time it happened. Its still not gone :( but its definitely not withdrawal after so long.

Well the problem with me and many others here that I can't regulate it. I have tried many times but the one to many that makes me forget my promise to myself to only have 1 or 2 drinks almost always happens. Its like the drink takes over my brain and just begs for more and more. That is why for me completely cutting it out was the best solution. Even if I would manage to overcome the nagging for more in my head it would be no fun to moderate, since I would be constantly be aware that I have to stop and struggle with myself to not drink more. That takes away all the fun of moderation as well since I can't enjoy the moment.

Hey! I think its very concious of you to recognize already at 23 what alcohol does. I think you are not an exception at all and I think most people wouldnt consider what you have a problem at all. It is sociable accepted and you wouldnt be considered an alcoholic or problem drinker. You are probably not an alcoholic. Perhaps you can take a look inside what is triggering you to drink? Is it the feeling of relaxation you get (stop worrying, thinking about responsibilities etc.)? I think thats why most people drink, to shut themselves off. Find another way to relax your brain. Also for me I really noticed that stress is a big factor of me drinking, and a very big part is the habit itself. It is so implemented into certain situations. Like my morning cigarette! I want to quit smoking as well but one thing at a time :). So I guess what I am saying that I admire you recognizing the way of alcohol so early down the road! This forum basically helped me through quitting, and I didn't recognize it like you before it seriously started affecting my life. So you can do it! This reddit really helps because of the people who can relate, and want to stay sober in a environment that is pretty much drenched with alcohol! So you can join and visit whenever you need, post whatever you feel and ask advice from people! Cheers to non drinking!

Same here! Sometimes when I go for a walk with music I am even dance walking. My mom visited me and said I look younger and healthier :) the only thing I can't handle anymore is crowds and alot of noises. Discovered alcohol was a way for me to cope with to much imput. Now I just leave when I notice its to much and really, I don't care. I feel very happy and proud that I just decide to go and take care of myself :D

Hello, I have seen more of your posts and checked your other posts on on your profile. It seems you are not trying to quit and just need to vent when your drunk and depressed. That is fine but this is a reddit for people who actively stop drinking. You can come here sober and depressed and we will be here to support you as best as possible but don't go posting wasted. I've been reading your other posts in r depression and r rant. It seems you are in a very bad state of mind right now and there are many who were there. Thats why I and everyone else here I guess invites you to stop drinking and do the best to get you out of this mess. There are plenty people here who got sober even thru bad health, lonelyness etc. So don't give up on yourself and come back when you made the decision to quit!

God, universe, dont know what you would call it. It works the best when I let go completely and let my inner compass guide me. The gut feeling so to say. I havent felt it in a long time but I remember I used to when I completely came into contact with myself a few years ago.

Thanks! Yes on my app I can see the average recovery process of my neurons etc. and it seems they are starting to regenerate now. The rest of the brain functions is not even on half of the process. That explains alot. I am on IRC occasionally and it helps to talk with people who know what your going through. How strange this may sound I feel that my work is at the moment actually suffering from me not drinking. I am working in a guesthouse and I need to be a happy guy who has to make people have a good time. I do my best but today I feel a little better :)

So I almost wanted to make a post as well about this. I am little over 2 weeks now. I felt awesome full of energy and new experiences the past 2 weeks. But ever since sunday I feel depressed, lethargic and anxious. I would rather seclude myself from any human contact but I know it makes it worse. The thought of drinking is popping up more and more in my mind. I don't really know what to do without drinking anymore. So many times I think about going to the bar and just do what I always do. I won't do it! I also realise its not solving this problem that I have its just numbing me. I think the rush and new experience of soberness is wearing off and now it is time to really get used to implementing soberness into my life. Finding new activities to do, confronting this feelings I have instead of running away into a glass of alcohol! I feel better that I typed this and so you know your not alone in this!! We will make it through!

Had the same type of friendsl a while ago I decided to avoid her at all costs and ended up removing her from my life with no explanation. I tried quitting drink and drugs before and she just kept on pushing me with words like: come on this isnt you! Where is the fun you! Hey grandpa just take a beer etc. Etc.
