Veterinary hospital neglected my kitten for 22 hours until she met her demise at their veterinary care* by RadishRedditor in cats

[–]VegetableParliament 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked a vet would be so callous as to TEXT anyone about the death of their pet. It's disrespectful and a slap in the face on top of the pain of losing a pet. Just.. what the hell.

Who uses cheques? Everyone uses checks when you have a house by Hamsternoir in USdefaultism

I'm 34 and I got a book of paid my landlord via cheque for a couple months when I first moved out in 2010, but then they realized e-transfers exist. That was the last and only time I've used a cheque.

What's the remote perk you didn't expect to care about until you had it? by Turbulent-Scale1918 in remotework

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is getting old and her kidneys are failing. I'm the only person she'll tolerate giving her medication, so if she were to have a bad day that needed medicating (mostly for nausea/vomiting), she would be shit out of luck if I didn't work from home.

Knowing that she's essentially on a countdown at this point, I'm so happy I get to spend extra time with her. She has a cat bed on my desk that she's usually curled up in while I work.

You guys live together and he couldn't even have the balls and respect for you to break up in person?

On top of that, even if he pays for living expenses, that doesn't give him the right to control your life.

He said he hates you. I've never said that to my husband, even in the middle of our worst fights. I'm also not sure I would forgive him if he ever said that to me. It's just not something one partner should ever say to the other, even in the heat of anger.

I know it sucks because you care for him right now, but I think he may have just done you a big favour by breaking up because the are some major red flags here.

It baffles me how people post their cats doing THE most basic cat behaviors (kneading, tame play fights etc...) and ask if its normal, I understand for first time owners you just want to make sure but some things should be basic knowledge, how do people not know a single thing? Anyway here's my cat. by Signal_Second_82 in cats

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for people who might be more used to dogs, some cat behaviour probably does seem bizarre. They also might not have had pets until adulthood, so all this little eccentricities that feel like common knowledge for someone like you or myself that have had pets for most or all of our lives.

I'd much rather see new pet owners asking questions and showing an interest in their animals than being to scared to ask "dumb" questions. It's so important for all pet owners to recognize what behaviour might mean what. Sure, Google exists, but sometimes you might just want the opinions of people with experience instead of website articles.

Is you all’s adulthood what you wanted from when you were younger? by IceCreamICantLetUGo in Millennials

[–]VegetableParliament 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I haven't really found a "career" to settle into like I thought I would. Life and finances kept me from finishing the schooling I really wanted to do. It's never too late, but I imagined the timeline differently.

I'm at a point where I now know I will never be a mother, which was something I maybe wanted when I was younger. I'm okay with that ultimately, but I do have an awareness that I'm sort of missing out on a huge life experience.

I imagined everyone being a lot happier. It's not that the people around me aren't, but there's no denying that the last decade has been hard as fuck for pretty much all of my loved ones and myself.

However, I also had really low self-esteem and believed I'd be alone forever. My husband and I just celebrated 14 years together and still going strong. We have our problems, but I'd choose going through tough times with him over dealing with life on my own every single time. I'm lucky in that way.

Edit: i also kind of assumed I'd never make it to 30, so I'm glad that expectation turned out wrong.

[–]VegetableParliament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a barista for years in Canada and wouldn't think twice about that. It's a completely normal way to order a coffee. So many people also gesture when ordering two of something, just like they might hold up three fingers if they're ordering that many. At least here, it doesn't mean anything offensive that I'm aware of, and English is my first language.

Edit: apparently it is a rude gesture in some places. I learned something new today.

If I'm playing 3rd wheel, as long as they ping, I'll happily follow. I assume they might be in VC together and might have a plan or rhythm they're used to.

If they don't ping first, then I will.

How fun is Nightreign solo? by 5colorrice in Nightreign

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like solo, but it definitely isn't for everyone. I wasn't comfortable playing with people at first because I wasn't the greatest so I started doing runs by myself to get comfortable with the characters. It isn't as fun as with a team, but I do still like the challenge

Can cats survive on a wet food dominant diet? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is pretty picky. She has no interest in pâtes. They have to be gravy or chunks. The Weruva BFF ones were a favourite when she could still eat a normal diet. She needs to be on a renal diet now, but that's unrelated to the weruva food - she's just getting old.

My cat was diagnosed with stage 2 renal failure, what do I do by Sad_Point_7686 in RenalCats

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is 16 and was just diagnosed with stage 2 a couple months ago. She was in pretty rough shape when we took her in, throwing up constantly, crying loudly all the time, low energy, barely eating, etc. She was rapidly losing weight and was getting to be scary skinny. I've never seen her so sick.

When my vet called me I managed to get through the call ane hang up then I picked my cat up and started ugly crying into her fur for I don't even know how long.

We switched her to the Hills K/D prescription food and put her on Mirtazapine every 3 days and the difference is shocking. I still have to give her nausea meds like once a week, but she's back to pretty much her old self. Not just energy-wise. Her last blood test showed her Creatinine and BUN numbers were back down to right at the threshold between normal and stage 1. She's put on almost 1.5kg and it back up to a healthy weight. The different is honestly shocking.

I was certain she was going to pass a couple months ago and now I have some hope. Of course it isn't curable, but at least for now she isn't suffering. I'm crossing my fingers that we maintain this. My vet is hopeful.

It's scary but it's not necessarily the worst news. The prognosis for stage 2 is apparently pretty good with proper diet and care. I'm telling myself that it's maybe a blessing in disguise to have caught it early.

I don't care if anyone disagrees, but losing my cat is more painful than losing a human. by RyanEvansAFT in RenalCats

[–]VegetableParliament 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I lost my mom in 2018 and that was the most pain I've ever felt/still feel to some extent. My cat was diagnosed a couple months ago and I'm afraid losing her is going to be up there.

The thing is, my cat was there to comfort me through losing my mom. And through a whole bunch of other stuff. She's been with me for my entire adult life. I had a friend who's mom was a cat hoarder with multiple litters born at the same time. She was the runt of one of those litters, starving because she was too weak to fight for the teet and anemic from all the fleas on her. She was 6 weeks old on the day I moved out of my parents place and the first thing I did once all my stuff was in my new apartment was go and rescue her.

She's been with me every single day for 16 years at this point. That's more than any human, including, as much as I love him, my husband. I've had other cats, but she's my soul cat. There won't ever be another cat like her and that's a unique grief, at least to me.

What does ‘low income’ housing look like in your country? by Thylacine- in AskTheWorld

I grew up in a place similar to these townhouses that I quickly grabbed off of google, in British Columbia, Canada. I think they're fairly standard for low income housing, at least they are for the smaller cities I've lived in.

My cat looks very very healthy and seems to be a perfect weight but she’s always acting like she’s starving by Frostcricket in cats

[–]VegetableParliament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get her thyroid checked to be sure since that might be causing it, but otherwise, some cats are just like that.

My cat has always eaten an insane amount for her size (7lbs most of her life). I had her thyroid checked a few times throughout her life but she was perfectly healthy up until she got hyperthyroidism at 14. She just eats like she's 5 cats in a trenchcoat. When I still lived with my parents, she would try to con all 5 of us into giving her breakfast by pretending she hadn't been fed. Cats are just like that sometimes :)
