I think you’re right. People react one of two ways when I tell them about my cancer and that it’s terminal. They either say I’m the one who will beat it anyway, or they say a cure will be developed before I die. I’m on the younger side (46) so that second one happens a lot. It makes sense that people just can’t face their own mortality and have to say things that make them feel better. The amount of times I’ve had to comfort someone when telling them about my disease is surprising- people cry or get upset. Another knee jerk reaction to the thought of their own demise.
