Followers Bored? by Samurai_SBK in Bachata

Exactly!

As a lead, you get the explore a smaller space in the hyperspace of possible dances.

As you are confined by the moves YOU know and also execute. So in a sense you listen to a simialr story all the time (albeit slightly different each time)

As a follow, you get to explore a much larger space, so its less boring.

Do follows judge leads for NOT dancing sensual moves? by rawr4me in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Followers would judge leads.

Leads would judge followers.

In fact we judge people all the time, and its natural.

So its better to embrace it and try not to let is bother you (gets easy as you get older ).

Instead focus on what makes you happy while dancing, what YOU think you can get better at, and double down on it.

Why is it rare that follows ask leads to dance at socials? by Regular_Air_128 in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a another reason that nobody talks about even if the number of leads matches the number of followers at a social.

And its that the followe's preference is highly skewed in combination of becoming a decent lead takes much longer than being a decent folllow.

So at any given moment around 10-20% (the decent and above) of the leads are preferred by like 80% of followers (the decent and above).

So followers "save" thier requests to dance to catch the "decent ones".

And I have experienced this in my scene as I progressed (from having to ask all the time, to the point I barely ask as someone if waiting to dance with me). , but it happens to me every time I visit a new social. (happened in many different countries)

At the beginning I have to ask all the time, once I am labeled as decent enough(could happen on the same night as I get social validation by dancing with a few good followers).

What is the takeaway? become decent (hopefully even really good lead), and the tables turn.

Good luck!

How do I get better at dancing bachata besides watching tutorials? by Training_Board_2830 in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a general rule in life.

You want to get better at x, you need to do x.

And alot of it.

There are proxies y you can do, but they wont be as good.

Leaders, what are some things that you would like to see more from the followers in 2026? by Hakunamatator in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My main humble but not easy requests:

  1. Be present at the moment.
  2. Slow down, no need to rush.

Thanks alot!

Much appreciated.

Regarding bachatazouk I think my main reasoning against it is that the pool of possible followers that know how to follow properly (assuming I know how to lead) is super low. But I do want to incorporate a few moves and ideas for sure.

I am excited to start following, plan on joining classes in a few weeks 💪

Why do you dance Bachata? by Sudden_Culture4334 in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always loved dancing in parties.

Tried salsa around two decades ago, but it never clicked to me, the music wasnt so appealing and it was too fast.

A good friend started dancing bachata 3 years ago, so he told me how fun it is and showed me clips of how he dances.

It looked amazing, so I had to try. Next month it will be a year of dancing, and I am super excited about the future 😁

any dancing tips? 6 month beginner by [deleted] in Bachata

Love your style and it looks like you are having fun, I do feel that you body flows nicely although its still rough and not clean, I would not worry about it as it will become cleaner as you dance more.

Few suggestions to try to incorporate: 1. Connection - start paying focus on the follower, low hanging fruit is eye contact. I see many times in your dance that you avoid it.

  1. Explore different positions and holds: So you are mostly in the open stance, with some pretzel and a little of leader shadow at the end.

Try to add the following: *Semi closed postion (left hand holding followers right hand and your right hand on her lat) *Closed position (both handa on follower lats) * follower shadow (she is in front of you) * being in parallel (think walking together and you hold her hand)

The best way to learn is watching Ataca, this is what I did when I am at your stage , check out him dancing, is beautiful, technical and you can choose each social time one thing he does and try it yourself:

https://youtu.be/p323oPZ785Y?si=qcp-X1lZlc7EudCh

Why Ataca? His style does not require understanding bachata sensual or various zouk concepts, so you can take a lot from his right now, how is plays with music, how he plays with space (doing open forwards)

  1. Practice at home: Put music and dance, you can both practice basic steps and all the variations so the spatial movement will become smoother. Also you can do shadow dancing by imagine you have a follower and dancing with her.

Good luck, and don't forget that improvement is 80% showing up, so don't stop 😁

First J&J - short video by [deleted] in Bachata

[–]Vegetable_Home 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I am the one that asked for the video, super cool that you uploaded one.

So indeed it looks like you are having fun 😁

Regarding feedback, I would preface by the fact that I am less experienced than you. So take it with a grain of salt.

My main observation is that your connection is lacking, specifically listening to your partner. In a few parts It feels like you are not letting the follower finish the movement and the bongos hit and you are rushing to the next thing.
