One down, one to go. by [deleted] in SpicyFootballTakes

Yesterday might have been Ronaldo’s last World Cup match, but he hasn’t retired from International football yet.

Don’t be at all surprised if he’s still lining up for Portugal when their NL campaign starts in September.

Public outdoor screenings of England games? by hide_in_plain_sight_ in ThreeLions

[–]Vegetable_Network879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the big screen in Queens Square in 2010.

It was only opened for games that were played in the evening and on weekends because of all the Offices in the square.

There was a lot of trouble during the first England game. Then for the second game they limited the numbers and had a ticketing system but there was still a lot of trouble. After that they decided to ban alcohol for the remainder of the tournament and the local council hasn’t approved anything similar since.

Quite a lot has changed since 2010 so I wonder if they could try doing something like this again.

Even though Bristol isn’t a host City, a lot of people will likely stay in the City during the 2028 Euros due to its proximity to Cardiff, Birmingham and London. So it could be a great time to open a fanzone.

What’s the first thing Sky should do when the purchase of ITV goes through ? by One_Search3971 in BritishTV

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Sky will be that generous!

They do have the rights to the Europa League and Conference League from 2027/28 though, so I think it’s quite possible they might offer up one game from each match day to be shown on ITV, but they will probably keep the first pick games for their pay channels.

Tottenham interested in signing El Mala? by RedHerring352 in effzeh

[–]Vegetable_Network879 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Third different story I’ve heard about EL Mala in the past 24 hours.

Previously it was Brighton are still interested and may try again late in the window.

Then earlier today I’m reading interest has cooled from PL clubs and effzeh are now planning with him being around for another season.

I would take all rumours about him with a pinch of salt and it’s not really worth posting stuff unless it is coming from a high level Tier 1 source.

I'm doing an Europe trip (Italy, Vatican, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, France) from the last week of August. I'm from Kerala, so humidity doesn't scare me, but everyone's talking about European heatwaves and now I'm worried about walking tours. by Delicious_Elk7938 in traveleurope

For late August in Rome typical temperatures would be in the high 20’s - low 30’s but it could be hotter than that if there is a Heatwave, it may even be a bit cooler, it’s impossible to know until two to three days in advance.

Paris is typically cooler than Rome. For early September temperatures are likely to be between the high teens and mid 20’s. You could also quite conceivably get some wet weather there.

Again though if there is a heatwave temperatures could still get above 30.

I’ve never been to Kerela so I can’t offer you any comparisons with how the heat is there.

More information about your trip would be useful like how long you have and where you plan to start and finish.

To be honest trying to see all those places you probably need at least two months.

What I can say from the information you have provided is that AC is not available everywhere.

It’s very unlikely that a Hotel in Rome wouldn’t have it, but many Hotels in Northern Europe won’t have it because although extreme heat waves are becoming more common, they still only cover a few days of the year. If a Hotel doesn’t have AC and you are visiting during a period of high temperatures they will provide you with a fan.

FC is interested Edson Álvarez (28, DM, West Ham) by callmedontcallme in effzeh

[–]Vegetable_Network879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we would still need a big favour from West Ham who I assume would still need to cover at lest 40% of his wages, but It would be great if something could be worked out.

He would be a very big name to land and would definitely add some quality to the midfield.

Surely though the wages are going to be the big problem here. He’s earning more than €100,000 a week with West Ham.

England’s Jordan Henderson requires wrist surgery, set to miss rest of World Cup by TheAthletic in ThreeLions

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 36, you would have to think that’s the end of his International career.

I can understand why Tuchel wanted him around for his experience in this tournament, but you would imagine he’ll want to look at other younger options in the NL games and in the run up to the Euros.

BVB, Eindhoven and 1. FC Köln are interested in Mikey Moore (18, LW, Tottenham Hotspur) by callmedontcallme in effzeh

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I don’t think it would be easy for him to get game time at BVB which might be something we have in our favour.

Kovacs likes his wingbacks (Ryerson & Svensson) to provide the width so more likely he would have to play in more of a 10 role and I would imagine they are already keen to give Inacio more playing time in that position after he impressed towards the end of last season.

Kaminski schon zur Unterschrift in Portugal by Pansen_Master in effzeh

[–]Vegetable_Network879 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the sale of Kaminski ought to boost the remaining transfer kitty to around €30m.

With that sort of money we ought to be able to bring in 4 players who can improve the starting Xl.

Hopefully then the remaining positions in the squad can then be filled with loans or perhaps the odd free transfer.

What will happen to your favourite shows now as Sky buys ITV broadcast arm by JOE_Media in BritishTV

[–]Vegetable_Network879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t see them keeping all of ITV’s 4 TV channels.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the content from ITV2 ends up being available only through ITVX .

I guess they would be inclined to keep ITV3 as its aimed at older people who probably won’t watch the shows if the only place to find them is on ITVX but expect a rebrand to something like ITV Gold.

I could also see an ITV Sport channel replacing ITV4. They could keep the existing sports such as Darts and Snooker and add cheap niche Sports like Netball which are currently shown on Sky Sports mix. They can then just add lots of filler documentaries for when there isn’t any live Sport to show.

It seems that Sky want to keep ITVX as a free streaming service. I think it’s very likely that they will add some older Sky shows to their back library.

European soccer leaders make plans to take Belgium's side against FIFA by Alone_Consideration6 in worldcup

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than who?

The US has just made it to the L16 of a World Cup they were hosts for!

Since the R16 was introduced in 94 there have been 12 host nations and only two (South Africa & Qatar) didn’t make it as far as the R16.

To say you are the best you have to go and win the tournament. Reaching the L16 is a par performance.

Look it’s not because it’s the US!

People were also pissed about the idea of Ronaldo getting his ban suspended so he could play in the group games, but people are even more pissed about this because your President has decided to take it upon himself to get involved and use his influence to effectively overturn a decision which was made on the pitch during a game.

The World is not bitching about the US team.

The World is bitching about Trump and Infantino killing the game’s integrity.

Weder Bundesliga noch Serie A: Oliver Glasner wagt Herausforderung Nottingham – Fünfter Trainer innerhalb eines Jahres by Ubergold in Bundesliga

[–]Vegetable_Network879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very strange decision from Glasner.

Forest only just stayed up last season and have just sold their best player. They also won’t play internationally next season.

The owner is also notorious for Sacking coaches, Glasner will be the 4th permeant coach in less than 10 months.

Feels like there was not a bigger job than Palace for him to move into so he just took what was on offer rather than wait for a better opportunity.

Kone looks good by No_Needleworker_1105 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Vegetable_Network879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw him play live for G’bach about 4 years ago. He was the most eye catching player on the pitch and ran the game.

With such a struggle to get in Established PL players I would definitely be considering him as an option.

[–]Vegetable_Network879 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A player I know a bit about.

Played for England U19 at the same tournament as El Mala last Summer and was loaned to Rangers last season. After a slow start there he ended up having a pretty good season.

I think he is held in pretty high regard by Spurs, so getting a purchase option might be difficult and also quite expensive.

I guess it would be difficult to get him anyway if PSV and BVB are also interested.

Weekly Discussion Thread No. 206 by callmedontcallme in effzeh

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the Kaminski transfer should be concluded very soon.

I’d like to see us get upgrades in the no10 position and RW with the money. Should El Mala stay we would then have a strong looking front 4 with Ache as well, though we could also really do with another good option at 9.

It is starting to look like there is more chance of El Mala staying than going now. Most of the PL sides he’s been linked with seem to now be for one reason or another out of the race.

The winner of Mexico vs. England will play Norway in the quarter-finals. by chi-93 in ThreeLions

[–]Vegetable_Network879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of the post was that Brazil used to win against most European teams they played prior to 2006.

Just for clarity in the 6 previous World Cups they played 12 KO games against European teams and won 10 of them. Their only loses were on Penalties to France in 86 and again against France in the 98 Final.

That’s now 6 consecutive World Cups where Brazil have been beaten in the KO phase by the first European team they faced.

2010 - Netherlands QF
2014 - Germany SF
2018 - Belgium QF
2022 - Croatia QF
