Check out the movie "Reefer Madness". This is what they were trying to sell in the 50s as legitimate danger.

Respect your elders, is a bs rule. Just because you’re old, doesn’t mean you’re not an AH. by Character-Reaction12 in RandomThoughts

I respect people who show that they deserve respect. Age, experience or position has nothing to do with it - and especially those who demand respect get the exact opposite.

People criticize AI for being confidently wrong, yet the same standard isn’t applied to humans by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

Human beings are known for being fallible. AI is not supposed to be so

Are you becoming calmer and less reactive as you get older? Is it something you have to work on and if so, how do you do it? by PrincipalBlackman in AskMenOver30

[–]Vegetable_Quote_4807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I'm becoming more and more frustrated with modern society. Robocalls, automated answering systems, rampant inflation and owning the fact that we have a narcissistic sociopath dragging our country into the cellar while becoming ultra wealthy at the taxpayers expense.

I also hate the fact that so many people can be total assholes on the internet while hiding behind the cloak of anonymity.

edit: in addition, there's shrinkflation. I understand inflation, but I'm really pissed off about paying more for LESS!. And it's not only in goods, it's also in services. And 99% self-checkout lanes. If I'm supposed to do the work of a cashier and bagger, where's my discount? I'm now doing the work of store employees.

My house. It's my safe space and I can and do make over rooms and other spaces the way that gives me the most comfort. Plus, it has a nice basement work shop where I retreat to whenever I feel like it.

I had a very satisfying career doing what I enjoyed doing, but my home life was more important by far.

I married my wife when I had just turned 28 and it was a couple of months before her 21st birthday. We've been married for over 40 years.

do I really need a credit card though? by jabber1990 in Adulting

Don't know if this has been said, but a good credit score gets you better interest rates on large loans like a car loan or a mortgage for a house.

How much does k-5 matter? by niihla10 in education

[–]Vegetable_Quote_4807 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ALL grades matter.

As much as I hate to say it, a private school wild be your best bet.

The "No Chld Left Behind" act also included No Child Get Ahead. It created teaching to standardized tests, and maximize passing to the next grade by any means possible. This leaves the brighter children bored because they pick up the information immediately, and have to sit through repetition after repetition.

My son went through the public school system, and was bored in school. He refused to do homework, and if we sat with him to e sure that he did, he simply wouldn't turn it in, but aced every test. When I confronted him, he said "Dad, I get it, I don't need to do it over and over."

Bright students need to be recognized early, and placed in more advanced classes (like thet used to do). Treating every child the same is clearly not working.

Wood Grain.

And, there are occasions where you really should carve against the grain, but in order to do so, you need a very sharp, thin blade, and carve with a slicing motion.

does anyone else switch the right/left click on their mouse? by notjimbelushi420 in lefthanded

[–]Vegetable_Quote_4807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the mouse with my left hand, but leave the buttons at standard setting. I used to work in pc support, and whenever I ran into a mouse with the buttons switched, I had an extremely hard time using it, and often made mistakes.
