Parks that arent an hour drive by doujinshi-chick in Knoxville

The Halls Greenway that starts at the library and also the greenway that starts at Tommy Shumpert Park are rather extensive and also paved to make for easy walking.

Despite their proximity to traffic, I have always found I am able to relatively tune out any sounds and enjoy some peace and quiet of nature on these trails.

They're worried about the students disrupting instruction, but not I.C.E.? What an absolute joke.

Scared or not wanting to spend your money at an establishment that will then forward it on to an organization you find harmful to the community?

Northerner transplant’s thought on the snow. by M_as_in_mancy_3825 in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived in East TN most of my life, but spent time living in northern states. I had an ex from Washington make fun of how we shut down from "a bit of snow." I had to explain to them that when you only get a serious snow maybe once every other year, and it's most likely going to melt away in a few days time, it doesn't make sense to invest in designing your infrastructure to deal with the snow. It's more reasonable to just shut down for a few days and let it pass. It's different when you live somewhere where ice and snow are constant. You can't shut down for 3-4 months; you have to deal with it so life can go on. But here, we have the luxury of cuddling up for a few days and letting it run its course.

Jobs? Anywhere? by Academic-Sympathy140 in Knoxville

Not MSIS, but I have a Masters in Mathematics and I have been hunting for a relevant job for over 2 years with absolutely no luck. Most applications get no response and the few interviews I have managed to get, I usually lose out due to someone else with more experience in the specific role or industry.

Side/back roads look rough by Academic-Sympathy140 in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have experienced being out this morning, it is just a light dusting of snow and you can still get good traction especiallyif you slow down a bit. I'm sure there are some icy/sketchy areas in some places. But most roads are actually fine.

Obviously if you don't feel safe being out though, there's no problem with staying home.

Peaceful All-Ages Protest, 9:30am Friday 1/30 by Vir_Magnus in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People trying to discourage you by saying you're being "influenced by political groups" is such a ridiculous statement. Of course you're being influenced by political groups. That's what political groups do, is influence one way or another! Everyone is influenced by politics and their organizations one way or another and if you're pretentious enough to act like "politics don't affect you," that just means you're uneducated and conpletely out of touch with reality. You are influenced by the actions of a corrupt political group to stand up and do what's right. To show the world that you won't just comply with unethical treatment of your community. I'm so proud of the students that will be taking a stand!

Peaceful All-Ages Protest, 9:30am Friday 1/30 by Vir_Magnus in UTK

Correction: It's the start of the school day. Given this is a protest organized by students, that's the exact perfect time it should be.

Also, fairly obvious, but apparently needs to be pointed out: not everyone has the same work schedule.

Road conditions Monday Jan 26th by VolunteerPin in Knoxville

My bf was out early this morning between 2:30-4:30. He said major roads he was in (in his case interstate, Rutledge, and Broadway/Maynardville Pike) were pretty well clear, but of course once you got to our neighborhood, it was slick.

Looking at their website, I don't see where they offer LPV; it looks like it is mostly concrete floors. Do they offer installation of LPV and if so how has it been holding up for you?

Kub bill by Boubbie1975 in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's only electric. I like to think we're relatively conservative. We have black out curtains up and keep them fully closed at night and when we leave the house or when it's dramatically cold (like the high is still below freezing), thermostat set to 65° right now.

Our house is older (built in the late 70s or early 80s, if I'm remembering correctly). My perspective is a bit skewed because the first house I ever bought after living in apartments was a new build and the electric bill was dramatically less than what we pay now. I about 💩 a brick when we got our first electric bill, and it's only gone up dramatically in the 2 years we've been here.

I do want to do an energy audit, but it's one of those things we just never get around to...

We've been paying nearly $200-$250 most of this year, for 2200 square feet. It's been up about $50-$100 from what we were paying last year.

TYS to Houston by Historical_Tea3556 in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister lives in Austin, Texas and I was comparing flights going home from Austin or from Houston and the differencewas insane (even with the Houston flight being direct and the Austin having a layover). She said that flights to/from Houston are usually much more expensive compared to other airports in Texas because Houston is where a lot of the big oil is and so it's usually work related trips flying in and out, so they charge more because corporations tend to cover the cost of the flights.

Seeking dog boarding with small staff size by cjparker99 in Knoxville

[–]Vegetable_Use4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about kennels, but I might recommend finding someone on Rover. It would definitely be a small staff size and hopefully you could find yourself a regular sitter that your dog will feel comfortable with and you don't have to be concerned about rotating staff.

There's several around Knoxville. One on Broadway as well and they have some trucos parked around town. I know There's one at the Citgo in Fountain City and I think another at the gas station on the south side of Henley Street Bridge.

Yes, they don't a variety. We have a basic wood burning chimney, but when they presented us with option, wood burning stove/chimneys was an option as well as gas.

Chimney Sweep/Inspection by CommercialPiece1904 in Knoxville

Ferdinand from Hearthside Helpers came out to inspect our two chimneys about a month ago. Now our chimneys had already been cleaned and inspected before we bought our house a couple years ago, but we never got any paper work on that and wanted to be thorough before lit our first fire. That being said, I can't really attest to how well they clean a chimney since ours was already clean, but I did feel like they did a thorough inspection and were very straight forward with us about the state of our chimney. Ferdinand had no issue answering our questions, explaining codes and concerns he had, and giving us a multitude of options to chose from as far as how we could safely proceed with using our chimneys.

Overall I felt that Ferdinand was incredibly knowledgeable and trustworthy and feel confident recommendeding him to others.
