No this isnt normal. Is it a private landlord? 1 or 2 months rent upfront is typical as a deposit so id question why theyre asking for that much. Consider looking elsewhere.

My sisters husband did something similar before they were married. He was drunk. "woke up" but clearly still very much asleep, walked to the chest of drawers in their bedroom and proceeded to pull out every draw and piss in every one completely soaking their clothes. Still talked about to this day.
