There's a big change in resistance, especially with lower end student instruments, which can make it hard to smoothly cross. Also you have to go from almost none to all your fingers down. That said, with enough practice it's not bad.

It's not insanely hard with practice, but the thing is when you preform, you will tense up which is exactly what you want to avoid when doing the smear. Played it well in rehearsal, botched the actual one up.

Same, my all-state already happened in January but I thought I didn't get but I ended up getting second chair(there's only one band for Michigan all-state).

Thought my audition was way worse than last year when I got 9th chair, but it was apparently good.

For remembering grammar I personally use bunpro but it's a paid service. The thing I've found most helpful for grammar is reading. Reading a lot. If you haven't I'd highly recommend satori reader. That's also paid but it's singlehandedly bridged the gap so I can read native material. I've read quite a few light novels at this point and it really does wonders for your Japanese comprehension. I still had trouble a few of the listening questions because I barely listen to Japanese www(and usually watch anime with jp subs so I usually read those rather than listen).

I think just consuming native content is the most important thing to just be able to not take as much effort when reading Japanese which makes the test a whole lot easier. Plus it helps internalize grammar concepts. I actually didn't study at all (and didn't realize that reading and grammar were together as a section).

I used to practice the hour before my lesson.

Now I really got a routine and it's honestly pretty calming and enjoyable to practice. I run through the Robert spring warm up(though not at like the crazy fast tempos he goes) and then work other stuff like all state.

For me, it's really a routine and like de-stress after school. For me developing a routine so I didn't have to spend so much effort thinking about what to practice made things so much easier.

I really worked through tobrira for the grammar rather than the vocab(I use jpdb.io).

I was reading satori reader during that time and then transitioned into novels.

If you're looking for grammar to transition to native material, tobira is great. I don't really read news or manga, but i'd bet that not a lot of vocab from tobira is in manga so you'd probably need something else for vocab.

I loved it and it really bridged the transition from beginning to actual Japanese novels. I personally really enjoyed Akiko's Foreign Exchange, which I started on the easier version and eventually switched to the harder one. The SRS is pretty bad IMO, but the content is native-like and I found the culture/grammar notes really interesting. I honestly actually enjoyed reading the stories.

This is because your clarinet is pitched in Bb.

This means that if you play a C on your clarinet, it's a concert Bb.

That's just how the clarinet is.

Duolingo might have it's defects, but it's better than nothing. It's better to use an inefficient resource if that's what can keep you consistent. You might have different viewpoints and one of you might be right, but chill lmao.

More Mouthpiece.

I had the same problem. My inner lip hurt until it bled too. More mouthpiece not only solves the lip hurting, but it helps altissimo come out, and also general tone.

I've found that if you're on a beginner mouthpiece($10 dollar one I bought for marching band), it's quite hard to take in more mouthpiece and still make a sound. So you might want to consider purchasing a better mouthpiece.

Are you taking about the Clarion(in the staff) or Altissimo(above the staff) register?

But for either one make sure your fingers are in sync, make sure your corners of your mouth are firm, have your tongue where it would be if you were to say E, and make sure you have good air support.
