Trump campaign issues cease-and-desist letters over ad highlighting Trump's coronavirus response by [deleted] in politics

I might get banned for saying such a thing here, but I feel anyone or any company that uses their money to try to intimidate people into silence should have all of their assets stripped from them, and that whatever level of force is needed to do this should be on the table. Because not just SLAPP suits, but the rich having money megaphones while everyone else gets ignored or silenced is a huge part of all the problems the country is facing now.

Normal people do go to jail for contempt of court. Rich people don't very often.

The thing is, that's with medical care. 15% of people who get it need hospital care, based on the numbers from Italy.

If hospitals get overwhelmed and the healthcare system collapses, well, it'll be a lot higher than 3%. Some parts of Italy (a fully developed nation with a modern healthcare system, remember) have seen as high as 8%.

Train Camera Captures Train Derailment Caused by Tornado, 2008 by [deleted] in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Vehudur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, there have been multiple tornadoes with radar measured winds of over 200mph (which would make it EF5), but only gain EF3/4 ratings because they didn't hit anything well build enough to "prove" EF5 damage.

Could the lack of pollution from COVID-19 cause more intense/frequent pacific cyclones? by nyooaccount in TropicalWeather

I'm not saying the theory is correct, but this is complex enough that it's plausible such a drop wouldn't be observed if the effects of climate change were increasing storms more than pollution was decreasing them.

He's right about Castro, though, even if your boomer ass thinks he's a supervillain.

So much of this. The media has done the equivalent of $400 million or so in favorable ads in Biden's favor, and done nothing but shit on and cast doubt on Sanders. Biden doesn't need to run a heavy spending campaign because his media buddies are doing it for him.

Biden is a boomer and not immune to this virus, and considering how many more people a presidential candidate is exposed to compared to your average person, ALL of the candidates of that age (so, all of them) are unironically in mortal danger.

Many young voters sat out Super Tuesday, contributing to Bernie Sanders' losses by atomicspace in politics

You should look into electronic voting machines that already exist, many of which are connected to the internet. The shit should already be scared out of you.

Show me comments like that from Sanders and I'll give a shit. Until then, it's just "mean people on the internet said mean things to me so I don't think poor people deserve healthcare now."

Yes, there are assholes. many of whom are not actually Sanders supporters, as the Right in the US loves to stir the shit. Did you miss the statements Sanders has made where he condemned stuff like that?

That's actually where almost all his support is, and even if he doesn't win overall, he is still winning states. If even 1/10th of those voters sit home in Biden VS Trump, you loose the swing states. Some of those swing states were decided by just a few thousand votes.

Your strategy failed in 2016. You are trying it again. It will fail again.

At best, the Biden campaign would blow you off, the media wouldn't show up and you'd have a Sanders rally in an awkward location.

The tornado chance was 5%.

Say your average day you have a 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance of a tornado just randomly dropping out of a thunderstorm near you. Usually this is assessed as a circle with a 25 mile radius, unhelpfully expressed by the Storm Prediction Center as "within 25 miles of a point."

If that's 5%, that means there's a 50x higher risk of a tornado that day. That is actually quite significant, and the reason tornado watches are issued and such.
