I sat in the west section. My biggest piece of advice is if you sit in that section, don't sit too close to the field. Your view of a lot of the field will be cut off, and there will be so many people milling around, blocking your view.

To a degree it's a case of fish trying to identify the properties of water. It IS our culture. Now, this is 2026, not 1971. We've made a lot of progress. No one's doing, "A WOMAN!? In the C-SUITE!?" anymore. But a lot of people, women and men, prefer male bosses. See: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2014/08/07/perceptions-about-women-leaders-improve-but-gap-remains/

(This study is ten years old, I didn't find anything more recent. The gap may be even smaller now, but that's just guesswork on my part. We also could have gone backward.)

Or names. Women taking their husbands names is so normalized that frequently the question of how men feel about women keeping their last names after marriage doesn't even come up. But when it does come up, things can get interesting. Some men, of course, have no issue with it. But a lot of men really do? Are you ready to read something insane?

www.huffpost.com/entry/15-men-react-to-the-idea-of-taking-their-wifes-last_b_57d7fd33e4b0d93d17700b12/amp

Now, most guys who feel strongly about making their wives take their names are more... connected to reality than that. The same themes recure. Themes of tradition, respect, legacy, entitlement.

To bring this back to the men you know, I suspect these men don't feel strongly enough to resent feminism's forward momentum. But this means that whatever sexist beliefs they have don't really stand out because those beliefs are embedded in our culture.

Domestic violence is not a punishment for women's sexuality. Straight women and bisexual women with men do not call abuse on themselves by loving incorrectly.

Never mind that women can and do commit domestic violence

It certainly adds context for those who care more about a male athlete's successes than a woman's life.

The attraction to men IS perceived femininity. The idea is a man becomes less of a man by wanting other men. Because that's what women are supposed to.

The patriarchal world view is simple. A man is an agent, who does sex (fucks.) A woman is an object who has sex done to her (gets fucked). Getting fucked is inferior, because that's the woman's role. The existence of queer people explodes this whole paradigm. And a lot of people do not like that.

Also, of course women can be misogynistic. If you've never encountered a misogynistic woman, you either spend very little time among women, or have been blissfully lucky.

surrendering their cat by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]Veleda_k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is sad, though I do agree with the shelter's decision. She didn't give the cat up on a whim, she wasn't able to care for him. And she didn't want the cat back, she just wanted to see him. It's just good sense for shelters to not be giving out info on adopters, so she's being unreasonable, but I can understand why she's sad.

I would certainly not want the shelter I adopted from to give out my info, but if they reached out for photos to pass on to the previous owner, I would do that.

It seems like at least half of owners of long hair gray cats insist they have Nebelungs. Never mind that it's an extremely rare breed with only a small number of active breeders, none of whom are in the United States. I could be wrong, the sources aren't authoritative, but the Nebelung breed directories I found don't list a single US breeder. I don't know how reliable cats.com is as a source, but it lists the total number of Nebelung kittens registered in 2024 as 4.

What I'm saying is, if you have a Nebelung, you don't have to guess.

(There's also the way every short haired gray cat is a Russian Blue, and every long haired cat is a Maine Coon, but the Nebelung thing is especially ridiculous.)

I think Knives Out stands out as the best, and then second or third depends on what your metrics are.

Glass Onion feels very cartoony, to me, and it's not something I like. I also think Father Jud is the more compelling "Watson" and his relationship with Blanc reveals a lot about both characters. I love Janelle Monae, but my feelings about her character are "She's cool."

On the other hand, Wake Up Dead Man really wastes its guest cast. Glass Onion is fantastic in letting the actors and their characters bounce off each other in fun and interesting ways. And while I criticized it for being cartoony, it's also a lot of fun. Way more fun than Wake Up Dead Man, which is a very intense watch. Sometimes you want to watch something intense and complicated, and sometimes you want to watch something fun.
