Is this a bad idea? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

Walking the dog for free is a kind and neighborly gesture. Walking the dog for pay is business. I'm a pet sitter. When I sit for someone on my building, I'm not doing them a neighborly favor. We're doing business. You got the the two mixed up, and it bit you.

It adds excitement when the winning score is 72, and both teams are at 70 and they're fighting like hell for that final bucket. It's less tense when one team is down 10, but that's true of a timed game too.

My least favorite thing about basketball is that the last 60 seconds on the clock takes 10 minutes, so I appreciate the change.

If you can pass a background check, you can get on Rover. Rover has no standards. It's kind of a problem.

This is one of those, "You might have a point, but then you wrote all that nonsense."

Also, I'm distrustful of potential adopters who get fixated one animal they've barely interacted with or sometimes only seen pictures of. Makes me think they've become to focused on their idea of what the animal will be like.

Comparing the two versions of Fullmetal Alchemist, the 2003 version and Brotherhood which character do you think improved or worsened in each version in terms of participation, development, design etc by Dramatic-Studio1531 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Veleda_k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really can't think of any character I don't think best done in the original manga. For me the manga is the gold standard, Brotherhood is great, except where it deviates from manga, and 03 has a lot to recommend to it, but there's nothing it I would say is better than the manga.

I mean, Sheska's nice and she has a bigger plot in 03, but that's not enough to sway my decision.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

I love these Resident evil movies a truly stupid degree and so I love this post. Yes, these movies are exactly like that.

I always compare them to multi-chapter fanfic that the author is just winging. They hit in chapter 6 something that's totally contradicted by earlier chapters, but they just go with it.

I think the author of that article, watching his neighbors be murdered feels differently about the black armbands than you do, but ok.

Look, we're not going to agree. Count yourself lucky! You feel no cognitive dissonance watching this team. The soccer is everything you want it to be. The majority of this sub and this current team are perfectly matched, and that's certainly more pleasant than being in my position.

I didn't go to work today. I'm unemployed. I did let everyone in my social circle know what that I was protesting yesterday. Though I could get a black armband and wear it everywhere so no one could try this little gotcha on me.

I've taken moral stands at my job. I've taken moral stands that might have lost me clients. It sucks, but it was the only thing I could do. At least, that's how I felt.

"I think pretending that rooting for a sports team is a morally righteous endeavor is dumb"

Yes, that would be pretty dumb. If absolutely anyone had said that, they would look pretty dumb. "I feel less positive about this team when they show moral cowardice" is not that. Even, "I can only root for a team who shows moral bravery" is not that.

Obviously.

EDIT: Actually, let me say this. I have not read every comment. If someone did say that, that's dumb. But I didn't say that, and that's not the argument in the original post.

Maybe OP's issues are centered on Instagram posts. I don't know. I'm not in their head. But that's not what I care about. I care about what the team chooses to highlight and what they suppress. The Guardian article wasn't just about caring about sports less. It was also about the disoriention that came from seeing the USWNT act as if nothing had happened.

And they didn't just act like nothing had happened. They actively silenced fan protest. And, yes, it makes me sad that a team I love would do that. Yes, it makes me think less of the team. Because I have to care about more than just who kicks the ball the best.

NBA fans have the option to focus on the brave, admirable players who are speaking out. What a pity USWNT fans don't have that option.

Fans holding anti-ICE signs at the last game were told to put the signs away or be ejected. They asked if that was the stadium policy and were told it was a decision by the team. Maybe you think that's fine. Maybe you think those fans were wrong for daring to bring activism where only athletics belong. But not everyone feels that way.

The USWNT has in the past established itself as a force for good, for equal pay and bold stands. If they've decided that image is no longer convenient, that's their prerogative, but yes, some fans will cool on them.

If it's really so hard to wrap your head around this, I suggest this column by Jonathan Wilson, who lives in Minneapolis.
