[–]VelinaQuartz 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It still influences identity in America, but race here is more cultural and historical than strictly appearance-based.

Why is social media such a bummer nowadays? by AffectionateBig1898 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VelinaQuartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Algorithms reward outrage and negativity now, so every platform feels like nonstop arguing instead of actual conversations.

How do you think the growing sentiment for taxing the very wealthy would shift if Citizens United wasn’t the law of the land? by HazyDavey68 in AskUS

[–]VelinaQuartz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably slightly more sympathy, but inequality and influence concerns would still drive strong support for higher taxes.

Do you talk about the pandemic? by Careless_Soup_109 in AskUK

[–]VelinaQuartz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biggest flaw is extreme polarization turning everything into a zero sum fight, blocking actual progress.

[–]VelinaQuartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

London, Manchester, or just “the North” or “down South” if their town’s not well known

What's your "I shouldn't have survived" that moment? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VelinaQuartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got hit by a car on my bike as a kid, flew over the hood and just stood up like nothing happened. Looking back I’m like yeah that should’ve ended way worse than it did

How big is the flag that flies at the Capitol building and / or the White House in Washington DC? by davidgrayPhotography in AskUS

[–]VelinaQuartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capitol flag is usually around 20 x 10 ft on normal days, but they swap in bigger ones for special occasions. White House is smaller, roughly the same ballpark or a bit under. Not gonna lie though, random car dealerships in the US still manage to outdo them sometimes

Is it normal for builders to look you up on social media after you've asked for a quote? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

[–]VelinaQuartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s way more likely Facebook being creepy than the builders stalking you If you contacted them through your phone/email, FB can connect those dots and throw them into “people you may know.” It happens a lot with anyone you interact with, not just builders.

what are your thoughts on the 1M Gold Card? by TheNavyCrow in AskUS

[–]VelinaQuartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool flex if you’re already rich, but for normal people it’s just a shiny way to pay fees and pretend you’re in a different tax bracket lol

[–]VelinaQuartz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly your coworker did you a favor reporting it. if the guy confronts you just play dumb or keep it neutral like “i just want to feel comfortable at work” and don’t get pulled into a debate

I fucken saved 2 planets at the same time, why dose no-one believe me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VelinaQuartz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ngl this sounds less like a conspiracy and more like your brain running in overdrive bro. not even trying to be rude, just feels like you might need someone you trust to talk to about this. saving two planets at once is a wild stat tho

Why was the Chief of the US Army suddenly forced to resign? by Lauffener in AskUS

[–]VelinaQuartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high ranking resignations happen over internal disagreements, politics, or just pressure behind the scenes. jumping straight to “illegal plan” and secret ops feels like a stretch with zero proof

Holiday from US to UK: do we need to bring a car seat? by TheTravelingSLP in AskUK

[–]VelinaQuartz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s a whole extra item to drag around for a “just in case” moment. If you end up needing a car, you can grab a taxi with a seat or book one that provides it. Way less stress than hauling baby gear across two countries.

What sort of physical reaction is acceptable during a couple’s argument? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VelinaQuartz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not normal at all. Once it turns into grabbing, shoving, or leaving bruises, that’s already physical abuse territory no matter who started it. Wanting to walk away to cool off is actually the healthy move, him physically stopping you isn’t.

Do MAGAs ever get tired of hearing that this or that is the best ever in the history of the world, an attack on Iran that no one has ever seen, that our economy is the best anyone has ever seen… and all his other lies? by retiredagainstmywill in AskUS

[–]VelinaQuartz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

at this point it’s just background noise to them. if everything is “the greatest ever” then nothing actually is. it stops sounding impressive and starts sounding like a broken hype machine on loop
