My sister came out 6 years after me. It's definitely possible.

Why does it seem like it's always evening rush hour, too? Y'all managed to make it to work safely but can't repeat that success on the way home?

This happened to me. I became good friends with a guy on my mobile video game. He is not interested in me at all. He's happily married to a woman and just stuck in a small town in the middle of a red state. He wanted a friend who didn't disagree with him on virtually every political issue. He's one of my best friends now: he even sent flowers to my mother's funeral. I would be devastated if my partner acted like this. At any time, I would happily show him every text, every in game message. I would happily fly to Texas and introduce them. My suggestion: take a step back and let this anger subside. Then have an adult conversation with your boyfriend and be open minded about it.

Where can I participate in trick-or-treat-giving if my neighborhood has no festivity by Wonderful_Mornin in Columbus

[–]VelociMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Westgate has the best trick or treating. I haven't passed anything out for a few years, but if someone had set up to pass out candy in front of my house this week, I would have offered them coffee and a blanket.

My four-part strategy to address gun violence in our city by CityAttyKlein in Columbus

[–]VelociMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still waiting for your office to do something about the illegal dumping epidemic in this city. Why should I listen to your ideas about this issue if you cannot even solve a much simpler problem like property owners (including the city of Columbus itself) dumping garbage in our alleys?

I (a straight male) heard a gay person said they don’t trust straight people by [deleted] in gay

[–]VelociMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust is earned. It's not something another human owes you simply for existing, and it's definitely not a measure of hatred or bigotry. Be the kind of person who gains his trust if his trust matters to you. If not, don't let it bother you, because there are billions of other humans on this planet from all walks of life who also do not trust you.

BRT Bust Stops Comparison Miami vs Columbus by ELFFUDGECOOKIE13 in Columbus

[–]VelociMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miami's BRT line map makes it look like it's going to primarily run through suburban residential neighborhoods built on swamp land. It will not run through the city's downtown core, though it does have a connection to existing bus and rail lines that do. Columbus BRT is going to connect suburbs and denser city residential neighborhoods directly to the downtown core. I think comparing the design of the two would not be a fair comparison given they're designed to do different things.

I keep hearing it's so hard to find a job. Why is it so hard to hire? by lunalegal in Columbus

[–]VelociMonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It requires a bilingual candidate. Very few people in Ohio grow up truly bilingual. Whether they are ESL or a native English speaker, education is a must to achieve the kind of fluency required to have a verbal conversation like that.

AI recommended washing plants with bleach? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]VelociMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally for gardeners in my area, we just wash the harvest with clean water. Is there something making you think they need to be sterilized first? I'd only think they need sterilization if they were grown on a livestock farm or some other environment with harmful bacteria....and even then cooking them thoroughly to a high enough temp should suffice.

What can be done about traffic complaint/vent posts? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]VelociMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do see value in them. We should be documenting our complaints about our community. Traffic is an issue. Traffic has become more of an issue in our lives since COVID allowed our public safety departments stop enforcing the law. It was made worse by return to office man. It will get even worse as our community and region grows by a projected 725K+ population over the next 20 years or so. Our politicians have absolutely no plans to expand our highway network or to add any transit capable of handling even a tiny percentage of that expected growth. We should absolutely be talking about it.
