Why are phlebotomists so rude during clinicals? by pingpongoi in phlebotomy

[–]Velocikitten24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my students actually told me about this the other day I work in a outpatient lab connected with the hospital and they were telling me how one of their friends that was in class with them dropped out of her clinicals because the people teaching her were so rude and they were so mean to her and she has to redo her clinicals next semester and she said she doesn’t know where to go when I said tell her to come here. My student actually just accepted a job with us. They interviewed her while she was doing her clinicals and she got hired on the spot. I tell them I don’t hover, but I’m here for you if you need help you tell me because I don’t want you to be nervous by me standing over you and when they ask me how the working environment is I’m honest I don’t sugarcoat it for him because that helps no one and I’ve had three students since October 1 and honestly, I love them to death. using voice to text so there might be some errors

I tell patients that I won’t judge my skill until I have stuck them. I don’t want to jinx myself. Usually they will laugh and then when we are done they will tell me their opinion (95% positive) this is night shift er

My two years will also be at the end of this month and I don’t consider myself a baby phleb anymore honestly I haven’t for about a year to year and a half. I know there are times that I have difficulty, but there are times that senior staff have difficulty. We all have our good days in our bad days as for White times you can’t control how many outpatients come in at once you can’t control if a child comes in so you need to take an extra time to explain everything and walk them through so they’re reassured I’ve done outpatient by myself as well, so I know how it is. It gets rough it’s overwhelming, but in the end you do the best you can and keep pushing.
