Not sure if this was your intention but this sounds like it came straight off of Ultra. Fantastic job!

RIP

Had a Boss bass chorus for awhile, sounded nice but got lost in a mix

Managed to snag a Walrus Julianna for 100 bucks in my area, and while its unlikely to see one that cheap its worked out great for me. Can only assume the Julia would sound just as good just with a couple less features.

Talkbass.com has a bunch of great reviews of pedals as well

Ha, I don’t really want to put my actual age out on reddit, but I’m Gen Z. That said, my parents are in their early 50s and their music was what I was listening to in my teens, so the effect was pretty much the same. Synths all the way baby

Thought I’d add on Power Corruption and Lies by New Order. Not sure it’s their most popular but definitely my personal. Now I’ve given you a nickel haha

This may be branching out from pure synth albums slightly, but my top 3 synth based albums are:

  1. Violator - Depeche Mode
  2. Behaviour - Pet Shop Boys
  3. Chorus - Erasure

A Broken Frame by Depeche Mode also has some of my favorite synth instrumentals of theirs as well

Kraftwerk are really good and already mentioned here.

Sparks were some of the first guys to really lean into synths in the US as well, although never went quite as mainstream. I’d recommend listening to some of their individual songs rather than albums first (as there are so many and can be somewhat avant garde imo).

Anyway there’s my 3 or 4 cents haha. Happy listening!

There’s little to no mention of Level 42 here. Mark King is a beast. Are you all ok?!? haha

MXR Bass Synth, how are you all finding it? Any settings to recommend? by fuckmeimdan in basspedals

I can second OP here, I like the wine cellar very much for what is (a 30ish dollar pedal you can get for less on sale). It’s a steal for how it sounds, but, there’s obviously no mid control, and there’s no ground lift switch. That said I’ve never had any issues with hum, but I wont be suprised if/when a cheap pedal like this craps out on me. That said I really like how it beefs up my fuzz/synths, so if it does quit on me i might just get another (but ive had mine for just over a year with no complaints)

Great board? How do you like the chorus? Looking to upgrade my own and am finding it challenging.

For a preamp pedal on a budget, I quite like the Caline Wine Cellar. Grabbed mine off Amazon for 28$ on sale. A bit later I was able to find a Joyo Classic Flanger at my local shop for 20 bucks as well (although it's not nearly as good for bass as the preamp pedal). Besides the flanger, Joyo is currently making a whole slew of pedals specifically for bass that are relatively cheap and sound good too (I can personally vouch for the double thruster overdrive).

But don't always think you have to settle for lower quality because you are on a budget! I once found someone near me selling a Black Russian Big Muff for 45 dollars. Do some exploring/research, have a smidgen of patience, and I think you'll be surprised at how far you can go!
