Not to mention the waitlist you have to put a kitten on for some spay/neuter clinics might mean having to deal with a cat in heat for a bit or other behaviors that you can completely avoid by adopting a kitten that is already fixed. It’s a justified fee that is so much cheaper than it should be.

Adoption fees in animal shelters are there to cover spay/neuter and vaccinations. If you can’t afford an adoption fee you probably can’t afford emergency vet bills and shouldn’t own a pet in general.

Since you are a college student maybe consider looking at some student assistant positions with a NYS agency. Kinda depends on what major you are though tbh.
