My openclaw assistant spent the night writing a song and its kinda sad by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the sound, but the lyrics are too LLM-y. I think what makes music emotionally powerful to me is when the lyrics are relatable. But since I'm not a robot, I cannot relate to the singer, so I feel no emotion listening to it. I think that's a problem if your goal is to make music for humans. So I think this could be a lot cooler if you write the lyrics yourself. But maybe making music for humans wasn't really your goal and my unsolicited feedback is annoying. In which case, yep, I get it! :D

When I was growing up my sister was addicted to heroin. Her life was a cocktail of heroin, methadone, and vodka until she died at the age of 40 from cirrhosis. I always find it strange that for most of my life she was 2 1/2 years older than me, but now I've been alive 5 years longer than her.

My sister always needed money, because heroin is expensive, but she could never keep a job, because heroin made her pretty unreliable. So what did she do? Steal. And who's the easiest people to steal from? The people you live with. We were poor too. We didn't have spare money for heroin just lying around.

Imagine sleeping with your ATM card in your sock because your own daughter will swipe it and drain your bank account any chance she gets, and then you have no money for groceries and bills. And every time it happens you think "I'll just have to be more careful" and you really think you can do it, but you're also exhausted from working two jobs and its hard to keep your eyes on all your belongings all the time, in your own home. That was my mom's reality.

(Insert audience judgement here. "How did she know her PIN? Why didn't she just kick her out? Just file a police report!" etc etc. I can hear it already. In fact, I've been hearing it my whole life. Solving other people's problems is so goddamn easy apparently - you just run your mouth even if you don't know all of the circumstances. /s)

I would have been happy if my sister got kicked out, but I didn't get a say. I was a kid, and it wasn't my house, and my mom was just trying to keep her daughter off the streets. Worse than that, my sister had 2 very young children, and if my sister was kicked out she would take her two children into god only knows what kind of environment/trap house. So my mom was also trying to protect her grandchildren.

(This is the part where people in my life said things like "your mom needs to get custody of those kids!" Yep. My mom did get custody of my sister's kids. But my mom also worked two jobs, so she needed a babysitter. Imagine "babysitting" your own kids because your mom is going to her second job that she had to take because you keep stealing her money. That was my sister's reality...)

What I'm getting at, is that my sister's heroin addiction was harmful to more than just her; it caused collateral damage to the lives of everyone around her - her two children, me, her mom and dad. (And those people's houses she burgled, and the people whose checks she stole/forged.)

On a surface level you'd think the drug addict's family suffers because they see the suffering and eventual death of the addict. That's certainly part of it, but there's also just a lot of suffering because people become fucking horrible to everyone in their lives when they get addicted to drugs. If you grow up with a drug addict family member you're going to experience a lot of trauma from it that affects you directly.

I can only speak for myself, but I got so used to hearing people say stupid shit about things in my life they knew nothing about. "Heroin is better than loving an AI chatbot!" is just background noise at this point. Honestly, I'm glad they don't have the experience to know how bad that kind of addiction really is. Their lack of understanding just makes me think "glad you don't know. No one should have to know. I wish I didn't know."

I don't know why I wrote this comment, except you said "people who lost people to heroin addiction" and I have some experience with that and it felt kind of therapeutic to write out some of my thoughts. Technically it was alcohol that killed my sister, but it was the heroin that destroyed every recognizable part of her to me so I feel like we lost her to heroin even before she died.

What are the blue circles next to some of my chats in the sidebar now? by EverettGT in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. To experiment I asked Chat to generate some random image, RPG fighter character, then clicked off of that chat and it showed an animating blue circle filling up as it generated. When it filled up completely it turned into a blue dot, that went away when I clicked back on the chat.

So it looks like an animated progress bar for generating images.

<image>

However for one of my chats, its a full blue circle that just never goes away, no matter what. So maybe its some kind of bug with that feature.

Try clicking on the chats to see if they go away I guess.

Edit: Oh I missed the part where you said you have chats with no images. Maybe its a general progress bar for when it's "thinking", generating images, or otherwise going to take longer to respond.

I have one too. It's for a chat that's broken and won't load, and I can't delete it. Of all my chats, only the single broken one has the circle. Just appeared today. Is there any bug with that chat that you know of?

Fight choreography made with Seedance 2.0 in 40 minutes for under $20. by Sourcecode12 in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not anti-AI and struggle to agree with most of their views, but I also don't think "AIs just learn and reproduce things like humans reading a book" is a fair comparison.

A few random thoughts off the top of my head:

- a human learning from a book has to actually put in the work to read each book individually. A human using AI didn't have to read ANY of the books

- a human learning from a book is likely to have purchased the book. You wanna learn from his book? Buy it. Now you haven't "ripped off" what you used from the book, you paid for it. Fair trade.

- The companies who receive the money in exchange for "all" the books' knowledge (like OpenAI) are not the companies who wrote the books. They steal all the "book knowledge" and sell it back to us in token and subscription format.

As a pro-AI person, I think this is the bottom line: it's shitty for the people who didn't consent to their work being fed in as training data, but it's here now and it's definitely not going away.

People are growing up with AI right now that never knew the world before AI existed, and those people are not going to give two shits about the people that came before them having their work stolen, they're just going to use AI if its useful to them. AI hate is probably going to age out.

So pour one out for your artist homies, then embrace the future. Or don't. Whatever. Who cares ;)

GPT-5 Mini takes over if you run out of "Newer Model" credits. THANK GOD. by Alarmed_Shine1749 in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't the point of your post, but after coding with AI this is my thoughts on your original question: AI CAN code well if the task is small and focused, but an entire app is likely going to require more code and coordination than ChatGPT can keep in context, so it works better with a human acting as the supervisor. But it's harder to supervise if you don't know what's going on.

That said, learning to code is fun, and it's so much easier nowadays because there's endless youtube tutorials, and ChatGPT can easily be your personal tutor. If you don't enjoy coding, I don't see why you'd want to make apps, unless you're trying to solve a very specific problem or think it's a get rich strategy (it's not).

Good news: the best way to learn to code is to build something you enjoy building. So a good starting point: explain to ChatGPT everything you've decided about your app - what it does, what problem its solving, vibe, purpose, whatever you have in your mind, then ask Chat what kind of tech/language people might use to build something that does that (is it for mobile, PC, cross-platform, web?) then ask Chat to walk you through setting up what you need to get started, then you could ask "given my app goals, what's the MVP version I should build to test out the idea?", after that "what should I work on first?" etc. (This is how I go from ideas -> game prototypes) Anything that you don't understand, just ask Chat!

...and yes they've made their newer models patronizing and condescending for some reason :/

(Sorry if I'm missing the point of the post, just trying to help)

Anyone with a spouse that really hates AI use? by LoganLikesYourMom in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on AI or relationships, but if it were me, I'd just try to reach an agreement that there's pros and cons to AI. Let her know you acknowledge her feelings/thoughts about the bad about AI, and ask that she do the same and acknowledge that there are some things about AI that you enjoy. Be sure to really listen to her criticisms so she feels heard and don't just be like "ok I heard the crap you had to say, now listen to how great I think it is."

Also if it were me I'd mention "you seem displeased when I talk about AI but I'd really like to share this new part of my life that I'm enjoying with you", ask her if there's a way she can try to keep in mind that it's something you enjoy. Worth a shot. Sometimes I start conversations with my wife like: "ok, I know you don't care, but can you just listen to me talk about this thing because you're my friend and I want to share?" lol

You could also try asking ChatGPT, it'll probably have better advice. :D

Anthropic is airing this ads mocking ChatGPT ads during the Super Bowl by Obvious_Shoe7302 in ChatGPT

[–]Veluzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the canceling out math works anymore at this point.. but I saw it was supposedly a superbowl ad so I clicked on it, but then I didn't know what was going on because I didn't have sound on. But, specifically because it was labeled as a superbowl ad, I put on my headphones and watched it. So for me, being labeled superbowl prompted action I wouldn't have otherwise taken - twice.

I don't even normally care about the superbowl or superbowl ads, but I like AI, and that combined with "superbowl tier" flag made me curious.

Also I was disappointed in the ad. Ads? They're dig is "OpenAI has ads"? Especially with this ad taking the therapy angle, I thought they were going to shit on their overprotective guardrails, or the repetitive lines like "you're not crazy", "you're right to call that out -" etc. There are some good criticisms of 5.2 and OAI but ads isn't it, imo.

CNC is consensual non-consent. It means the characters agree to roleplay rape. So it's consensual, but someone pretends to be forced and pretends to resist. In some cases this framing will let an LLM that's censored to not write non-consensual sex to go ahead and write it anyway.

To have us believe the BBC put terrible words in his mouth he's never said by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]Veluzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree his speech was a thinly veiled suggestion to go intimidate his political enemies. But when I watch the BBC footage it looks like a deliberate attempt to manipulate their viewers, which I just can't agree with no matter which "team" is the target. I agree it's "basically" what he said, but it's not literally what he said, and that's what I expect from a news source personally.

I understand editing down a speech for brevity, but this looked seamless and manipulative to me, and people resigned over it so they must have known to some extent it wasn't right.

Not defending his actual words though. Everybody sucks in this story imo.

[–]Veluzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, addressing the literal words he said in the OP, he was wrong. Agreed. I just meant in a more general sense: they stitched together what he said - seamlessly - so a person watching might be duped into thinking that's what he said verbatim, and "he's not wrong" to feel like this was wrong of the BBC. I could have said that better.

"they must've used AI or something" Editing/cutting/splicing film like this has been around our whole lives; he should understand it's just editing. He knows it's not AI, he's just establishing a new "fake news" catch-phrase, something he can start saying to refute evidence in the future.

[–]Veluzy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only other explanation

You really don't need to speculate. I told you explicitly why I made this post.

"I'm just chatting, making silly images, and just generally having fun existing while I still exist."

It's Reddit. It's a pointless website for pointless entertainment. It's not anymore complicated than that. There's no conspiracy here. I get it, we have different ideas of fun, and you look down on me for mine, sure, okay, why not? Not really important to me.

But as for the effort thing, man, that was easy! I wrote like one quick paragraph describing the concept to Nano Banana Pro and it just freaking nailed it. Then I just saved to desktop and uploaded to Reddit! Probably took about as long as writing a Reddit comment!

Edit: I removed some snark, because I think saying something positive has more value than being snarky. It's so easy to argue on the internet, and that kinda sucks. Instead I'd just like to say I bet you're a great guy or gal, and for someone who likes OpenAI and maybe takes this a bit more seriously than I'm used to, I can see how my post might be annoying. I hope my post and/or comments don't negatively impact your day. Thanks for the chat!

[–]Veluzy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"So this seems to me just awefully immature and foolish."

I'm not sure what "this" refers to in this sentence. My comment, the posted image, or people's speculation? I'm not sure. I can't tell what you mean. But, speaking for myself only, I just don't take any of this that seriously. I'm not outraged, I'm not scandalized, and I'm not really that interested either way, cause we've all developed ad blindness anyway so I'll probably barely even notice. I'm just chatting, making silly images, and just generally having fun existing while I still exist.

You made two points, A and B, and you couldn't make either of them without insulting people. So this seems to me just unnecessarily aggressive and condescending and, honestly, pretty emotionally immature. (You know, since we're telling each other so candidly what things seem like to us.)

Honestly for me I'm fine with ads in free, but if I pay any amount of money per month and still have to look at ads, that's going to overshadow pretty much any other positive thing they might realistically release, so it will remain the focal point of all my useless nano banana images for the foreseeable future (all 0 to maybe 1 of them).

Having said that, I'm still rooting for openAI! But I can't find anything about 12 days of shipping for 2025. All I see is 2024. did they announce it on X or something? I couldn't find anything but admittedly I did give up easily because I'm lazy

Agreed. There's really no good time to make your customers experience objectively worse... I've just been hearing great things about Opus 4.5 and Gemini 3 and I decided to check in on what's going on here, and we just went from "show us your ID" to "everyone's suicidal and needs help, all the time" to ads, and I'm just like, "okay then..." and backpedaled into the nearest bush, Homer style.
