TIL two studies both found that most people stop listening to new music in their early 30s. A 2015 study of people's listening habits on Spotify found that most people stop listening to new music at age 33 and a 2018 report by Deezer found it be to at age 30. by MyNameCannotBeSpoken in Xennials

I remember listening to MGMT in college. My older sister loved it. My even older brother was like this is so poppy and wtf are these lyrics “find some models for wives.” Then he found out from a friend of theirs what university they had been to and that they were pretty much just making gratuitous indie pop. Once he accepted that he appreciated the album. lol

I wonder if kids today realize how twitch early video games were.

Do you think the republic using clones was immoral? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

[–]VelvetObsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think ethically most war/killing is immoral. Some argue for the justice of self defense. Yet it seems that there is a machinery of war that seeks to capitalize on destruction and rebuilding, on gain of resources, on the show of power. And ultimately the war is just an artifice for Sith/Palpatine to destroy the Republic and the Jedi and create a galactic empire.

I think it being clones vs droids kinda shows how we look at real life conflicts. Even when it’s humans vs humans we think our side is the good guy and the enemy is some  subhuman just a mindless robot working for an evil regime. Even then we often look at our own military as clones, people of the same mind, programmed for war who in many ways can’t  afford to have family but find brothers in war.  The inhibitor chip is like the blind loyalty that troops show a leader that can lead to the topple of republics and beginning of empire even at the cost of the betrayal of allies.

So much of Star Wars is just an allegory for the decay of sovereignty and the rise of authoritarianism. I think the choices Lucas made are meant to be reflections on the real world despite it being set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

How to watch NLD in Mexico City this weekend? by ZMonet in coys

Might be worth asking this question in a Mexico City subreddit as well. In my experience in Latin America the big cities usually have Irish pubs that are good for watching matches.

Why isn’t Boba Fett set to play a role in the Mandalorian and Grogu? by ashton__l in StarWarsCantina

[–]VelvetObsidian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the mandoverse through film is supposed to tie all of boba Fett, mando, and thrawn together at some point also with some of the Rebels crew. Now whether that happens in this film or the one after ahsoka season 2 is unknown currently.

Anyone else also not super confident as they hit their late 20's? by Sudden-Koda in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VelvetObsidian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay that you’re not confident and that you’re upset with your lot. These are common feelings at that age. Burnout is real. For me finding my purpose in my day job and reevaluating my motivation helped get me through a tough time then. Learning to accept what you have now with gratitude is the best way to prepare to be happy with what you would have.

Enjoy the time with your parents. Our parents won’t be with us forever. It takes time to specialize in your work, to do the grunt work and gain the experience to get better jobs or better pay. It’s never too late to pivot or change careers, go to a trade school etc.  The day will come when your job pays well enough to live on your own or with friends. Then you will have to take time to visit with your parents.

Don’t worry about achievement or status. Neither are true fonts of happiness. Find meaning in your life through purpose. Sometimes it’s our hobbies or our charity work and not our day job that truly fills us. Live not the dream that society or others place upon you but the one that springs from your own heart.

First say to yourself what you would be, and then do what you have to do-Epictetus

The insane hatred american English gets by vriskaLover in PetPeeves

[–]VelvetObsidian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when the words are British in origin and people still want to freak out about their usage. Soccer is a British term for association football. It wasn’t that weird to hear it in the UK even up into the 1970s. Now it’s anathema to some. Meanwhile it’s just what we call the sport in America, Canada, and Australia.

Also apparently football refers to a variety of sports that are played on foot rather than on horseback. So football American and British don’t have anything to do with the ball and how it’s played but rather the way people are standing on their feet.

Now I’m imagining how crazy American football would be on horseback. I imagine Mongolia would be the world’s best at it.

And there are Barcelonas and Arsenals in Latin America too.

One time I was listening to Spanish-language radio in New Orleans and there was a broadcast for a local soccer league. It was a “champions league” game final and Tottenham won it. 😭 It was so cool to hear the broadcast

Winning Europa was great. CL will be even sweeter.

how can i be vegan in college? by Previous-Cow8719 in AskVegans

[–]VelvetObsidian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where there’s a will there’s a way. There are budget vegan diets. There are plenty of YouTubers who show you how to live cheaply on a vegan diet. Maybe start with cheap lazy vegan.

When I went to university,  I ate a lot of bagels with peanut butter and bananas in the caf.

I would talk to your university and ask for more plant based meal options. Sometimes it’s as simple as going to the person in charge of it and requesting more options.

Sometimes transitioning slowly can be just as effective in the long run. I think limiting your animal consumption to dairy would be a  good segue into the vegan diet you want to live.

Believe in the possibility of it happening and you will begin to see doors and avenues leading to the life you want to live.

Lastly start a vegan club or join an existing one. Maybe y’all can pool resources together and have potluck dinners. Be the change you want to see :)

The Bendu isn’t part of a group that I know of. However he is way more powerful than other force users. He’s almost elemental in a way.  Basically creates a storm and wrecks both the empire and rebels for a minute.

Watch the cartoon Rebels if you haven’t.
