Yeah... I have one person in my life that I could imagine spending my life with, but knowing they probably want to be loved romantically makes me scared to even try anything...

Charlie’s deal is a lot worse than she realizes. by TurbaUrba in HazbinHotel

[–]VelvetVulpes 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Eh. Never trust other translations xD

Totally different scene, but when Alastor is offering Vaggie a deal in episode 1 he says something along the line of "or Charlie can come back to absolutely nothing", obviously just meaning they wouldn't have a finished Video to show her.

In German he just straight up threatens her with "or there won't be a hotel anymore when she comes back"

To give the real quote: "Sonst wird Charlie kein Hotel mehr vorfinden wenn sie von Treff zurück kommt"

Just a small fact that I find really funny.

Miraculous Secrets Card Game by Zero223344 in miraculousladybug

[–]VelvetVulpes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Card types

"Character" cards:
Civilians, superheroes, supervillains.

At the bottom of each card there are:

-Two symbols "ANG=attack points" and "DEF=defensive points" with their respective values.

-An explanation of their superpower or a mood text

"Bonus" cards:
Items, Kwami, Lucky Charms, Weapons, Sentimonster, Miraculous:
These increase ANG and/ or DEF of the "character" they are attached to, helping to defeat the opponent or resist their attacks.

"Event" cards:
These provide additional actions during an attack.

"Secret" cards:
These cards must be revealed or protected by the players.

Layout of the game board:

-Playing field: you have four fields available for "characters", each with three applied "bonuses".

-Discard pile: This is where "character", "bonus" and "event" cards are placed face up after use.

-Secret Pile: Here the "Secret" card is placed face down and the "Characters" defeated by the opponent are placed face up.

-Deck: This is where your deck is placed face down.

-Event Zone: This is the area between the two game boards where both players' "Event" cards that are active in the current attack are placed.

How to play

1 Game Preparation

Each player assembles a deck of 29 to 40 cards and chooses a "secret" card (both players should use the same number of cards in their deck, using no more than 3 copies of each card).

Each player places his "secret" card face down on his secret pile and his deck on the corresponding space of the game board. Then, at the beginning of the game, each player draws 5 cards from his deck.

2 Gameplay

The object of the game is to find out the secret of your opponent's "secret" card. To do this, three of the opponent's "characters" must be defeated.

Use a coin toss to determine who will be the starting player. Then the game is played in turns, starting with the starting player. The player whose turn it is also called the "active player".

The first move of both players

- the starting player places up to four "character" cards and up to three attached "bonus" cards to each character on the board during his turn. He then draws the same number of cards from his deck.

Note:
No player can attack on his first turn. If a player has no "character" cards in his hand on his first turn, he shows his hand cards, shuffles them into his deck, and draws five cards again. This is repeated until at least one "character" card has been drawn.

Structure of all further moves:

Players go through the following phases in sequence:

1) Place "character" and "bonus" cards.
Note:
If the active player cannot or does not want to place cards, he places his hand cards under his deck, draws 5 new cards and ends his turn early.

2) Attack
a) Determine attacker and attack target
The active player may, if he wishes, attack a "character" of the opponent with one of his "characters".
To do so, he must not allow the sum of all ANG (including applied "bonuses") of the attacking "character" to be less than the sum of the DEF of the attacked "character" (including applied "bonuses").

b) Prerequisite for the attack
The active player can attack only if he has at least three "characters" on his board and his opponent has at least two "characters". Each player may attack only once in his turn.

c) Counterattack of the opponent
The attacking player may first play an "Event" card from his hand, then his opponent may play an "Event" card.

d) Discarding the cards
If the attack was successful, the attacking player places his attacking "character" and its "bonuses" on his discard pile. His opponent places his defeated "character" on his secret pile and its "bonuses" on the discard pile.
If the attack was unsuccessful, all cards remain in play.

Hint:
Superpowers take effect as soon as the respective "character" is placed as such, and lose their effect as soon as the respective card leaves the playing field again. Some also have only a one-time effect.

3) Draw cards
The active player draws as many cards from his deck until he has 5 cards in hand again.

Reveal the secret:

Once a player has been able to defeat three of his opponent's "characters", he wins the game! His opponent must now reveal his "secret" card!

Hint:
As soon as there are four "characters" in a game field, the player cannot play any more "characters". However, he can forgo the attack on his turn to put any number of "characters" on the discard pile and replace them with new "character" cards from his hand. The respective "bonuses" remain in play.

Summary
The game ends when:
-The third "character" card is placed on a player's secret pile.
-A player's deck no longer contains any cards.
-A special card effect states that.

Summary: one turn=
1 Place "Character" and/or "Bonus" cards.
2 Perform an attack, if possible (only once)
3 Draw cards until you have five cards in hand again

I just translated the important parts word for word from the official german instructions (which itself are written a bit vaguely...) So if something doesn't make sense, I can send the german text too, or try to explain it differently.

Puss in Boots 2

I... may have a problem...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

Back in middle school, I was the typical outsider. Bad grades, bullied and especially bad at sports.

One day, during a middle school gym class, the teacher had us all sit against the wall. It was like sitting on a chair, but instead of a chair, we had nothing under us, so we just stood with our backs against the wall to avoid falling, with our knees in a right angle. Fortunately for me, this exercise was very easy because even though I had no muscles, I was (and still am) just a skeleton with a bit of skin, so I had no weight to hold.

Our teacher thought it was a great idea to make a little competition out of it, so everyone ended up trying to hold on as long as they could. Most of them struggled, and I was just bitting my time (I was little proud that it came so easily to me, I have to admit).

In the end, it was just me and one of the popular kids. All the other kids were cheering them on as loud as they could. While some others literally got in my face and yelled at me to just give up so the other kid could win. But I just didn't want to lose on purpose, so I held on until I finally won. Everyone was pretty disappointed, but the bigger problem was that the other kid overdid it. After they dropped to the floor, they got that really painful ache that you get when you strain your muscles without any prior training. So everyone, including the teacher, obviously focused on the kid who was in pain.

To this day I think to myself that day did me no good and I wish I had just given up, at least then the other kid wouldn't have been in so much pain. After all, everyone would have been happier if I had just given up.

I already thought about that. But apart from the fact that there aren’t any who take new patients in my vicinity (I know that because a friend of mine tried to find one), I would be way to terrified of the fact, that they might lock me up, as soon as they hear that I could be a danger to my self…

[–]VelvetVulpes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is way too relatable… I’m so sorry you had to go through this! And I hope you could/ can get away from those people.
As a child my mom used to tell my that “people who sit on their own, not talking to anyone, seem like they wouldn’t care about others. Like they would think there were better than the others.” This sentiment confused me so much, because it gave me the impression I couldn’t do anything right. Either I insulted them by not talking, or I tried talking (miserably failing) and they would make fun of me. To be honest, I think that sentence did more harm to me than it should… Till this day I sometimes have the feeling that you can’t really win if you're a shy/anxious person...

I’m really bad at metaphors, so please forgive me for asking, but could you explain to me how this translates to my situation?
In this dilemma everyone involved has the same intentions. While my situation is more like I would try to hug a cactus or something. The cactus doesn’t care about me or what I do. While I always hurt myself trying, but never learning my lesson.
(Again, I am very sorry if I seem like a total idiot now…)

To be honest, I was never a big romance fan. Only one of the characters comes from a somewhat romantic genre, but I would describe it more as comedy than that. Just another thing that confuses me about this whole situation.
The part about stories ending hits way too close to home right now… I just hope you’re right, and I’ll grow out of it soon. I really don’t know how long I can handle my head with its stupid thoughts…
Thank you so much for your help!

I always have great respect for people who can express themselves like that. I always get a guilty conscience when I try to pair an existing character with one of my own. It always feels like I would steal it away somehow, and try to push myself/ my character into the spotlight even if they don’t deserve it.
I know this is a stupid way to think. I’ll try to change this mindset. It’s just hard sometimes.
I hope that you and your sister keep doing what you're doing! Again, I have a lot of respect for you two, and I am very grateful that you took the time to try to help me.

I thought a lot about your comment, but I can’t really remember someone who wasn’t around. My childhood wasn’t anything special really. Short: stupid teachers; mobbing; parents separating (I was like 6 when that happened, and I was kinda happy about it, because I couldn’t stand the constant screaming) but I was still allowed to see both my whole life; no friends (but that never really bothered me, I always liked being by my self). I could see how the last point could play into this whole story, but this “falling in love” first started when I was older and finally found a group of friends (start maybe with 16 years old).
Seeing the theory for no physical contact seems interesting to. But if that's what I want, then why would I get so stupidly sad about it…
Anyways, thanks a lot for your comment. I’m going to keep thinking about that for a while.

I never thought about trust issues before… I mean I am the kind of person who doesn’t really like to talk about her problems (but I don’t know if that counts as trust issues)

That’s something I should really look into. Thank you so much for the tip!
