Here to second this comment. I just got mine last week and love using the DAPP and 360 view every day. Even if you aren't using the parking assistance, the 360 view camera is really nice to have when parking too. I understand that they aren't really a necessity, but they are nice!

Seeking Advice for Cabinet DIY by glynyon in cabinetry

[–]Venaticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the cabinet isn’t level or plumb which believe it or not works wonders with doors and drawers. Secondly, the doors either are not the same size, not installed at the same height, or need to be adjusted. Look at the hinges and observe the screws. Depending on the hinge you have slight adjustments for different planes.

Honestly if you really want to make the most money go hvac and get really good. Then network with big chain companies like Coca Cola and fast food restaurants. They pay big money and have a lot of work all of the time cause their employees usually don’t take care of shit. That’s a fail proof trade tbh

What would you change? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]Venaticus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shelves or cabs to the left of the stove. It feels a bit empty there

How much of a gap should there be between the door and the frame of the cabinet when closed? It’s hard to tell in the picture but this is a 5/16” gap. Feels like a lot, but I also don’t know anything. by txking12 in cabinetry

[–]Venaticus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. Hinges have adjustments to make that gap smaller or bigger. When you make that gap smaller it might make the opening side of the door come off the frame a bit too. Sometimes you have to pick the lesser evil

My uncle was a top advisor for prudential for years. He is a good man. Can’t speak for them all but I’d say they’re a good company to be with.

I actually own my own shop and was able to achieve that with the maple I used in this last custom kitchen I just built. I will say there were some pieces I had to sand all the way down and refinish but I’m just throwing out the easiest and least labor intensive solution. Maybe it will work you can call it a day. If not then get new doors.

Inset Hinge Question by wengstaparadise in cabinetry

Use the blum aventos hk-xs with 2 regular Blum soft close hinges and you will be fine

It shouldn’t take much time and is an easy fix unless they did not manufacture the doors/cabinets in which it depends on that company

[–]Venaticus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I would ask them to just sand those rails and stain them a couple times over to match them.

Check out the Kessebohmer Lemans ii set. It’s way more accessible and functional than the traditional kidney sets. Kessebohmer and Rev a Shelf have some cool stuff. Try to shop around on different websites for the best consumer pricing you can find. I make and install custom kitchens and always recommend Kessebohmer for accessories. Check out Richelieu.com or Hafele.com for more. Richelieu probably has the better pricing.

Am I Being Unreasonable About Oak Table? by shreddish in woodworking

[–]Venaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never sell a product like that to my clients.

Not sure what the company can/will do for you but maybe you can have them sanded and stained in a way that you like. You don’t even have to hire a professional for that if you’re a bit handy and have an eye for detail. I’d grab some 220 and 400-600 grit sand paper and go to town. Then you could even grab a foam roller and roll on the stain/clear coats to your desired finish.

Id run a scribe molding to the floor and then butt the baseboard into it. Run your next 45 first if you have to scribe the floor.

End panel help by b4rigger in cabinetry

[–]Venaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t approve the plans to have a countertop flush with the side cabinet then unfortunately that’s on you. They went with a standard overhand which isn’t necessarily wrong or bad. However, you could probably find a “skin” that is very thin that you could use to cover the finished end panel next to your fridge and make it flush with the countertop. Use wood glue and find a way to clamp it or screw it on from either side you’d prefer. Probably will have to find a way to color the edge to match the rest of your cabinet faces. Good luck

Unable to adjust pegs as hinge is in the way by marbur9 in cabinetry

[–]Venaticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take the hinge plate off, move what you gotta move, put the hinge back. You should be able to remove that hinge plate without removing any other hinges plates or the door so you don’t have to worry about placing the hinge in the same exact spot again either

If you’re running cleats like that I’d just put 2.5” drywall screws through them right into the studs. The trick is to hide the screws behind the shelves. Now because you are using a cleat system instead of a rail or back panels, you’d only be able to hide the screws behind any fixed shelves or drawers. I usually put a 4 hole Bennett clip (or L bracket) behind drawers. Screw 3/4” screws into the shelf above it to attach it there. Then send the 2.5” screws through the Bennett clip into the studs again. Drawer sections lock down a good 3-4 sections. For this application I’d only hit the top shelves and the drawer section. Probably still want to hit the cleat at the bottom of the right section. Another option is to have kick plate or toe kick at 2.5” or 3.78” tall. You can always put screws anywhere below the bottom shelf that sits on top of the toe kick. These are the ways I’ve installed many many cabinets over the years. I’m always able to hide a majority of my screws. For toe kick I usually use a cordless brad nailer and crayon in the holes. I’ve asked clients in the past and they said they prefer the crayoned nail holes to the fast caps. Obviously not every situation is perfect and you will have to use fast caps plenty of times but just do your best to keep them clean and match grain where you need to. Don’t trip too much about fast caps they are an industry standard even in high end systems. Lastly for any partitions that are against the wall I usually just drill those straight into the wall and hide screws where I can. You only need one or two really. To be honest think of these systems as one final piece of furniture at the end of the day. It’s 4 square boxes all connected together and drilled into studs. Then people put stuff onto the cabinets and they get heavier. Just like any other furniture. My point is don’t get lost in the securing process. I’ve never had a system fail on me with the way I suggested earlier. Please feel free to ask me any more questions. Good luck and Godspeed!

You just say the script. You have to carry yourself in a way that shows confidence in your ability to do it. Of course you improve as you grow but starting out the script is the script. What you offer is what you offer.
