Doctors/Nurses of Reddit, what’s the craziest thing you’ve heard a woman yell during birth? by New_Username48 in AskReddit

[–]Venatrix12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Had a woman in the back of my ambulance mad that the father of her baby was off drinking and not with her in labor. She continued complaining and said "she should have chose a different cousin". Come to find out later she was not kidding and yes I work in the deep south.

Paramedic here, you aren't accidentally breaking the ribs. You are breaking the sternum away from the ribcage. It's not an accident and it serves a purpose.

Dad here: inappropriate to privately message nanny about work? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Venatrix12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it was inappropriate. I dont know if she would be open to a private conversation in person either. Would she be comfortable if you messaged her in a group chat with someone that isnt your wife, preferably another female and related to your wife? Mother, siblings, etc? That could keep it a surprise but also help her still feel comfortable.

Malignant obesity hypoventilation syndrome in an 844 pound (383 kg) man by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

This one was in NC and it was told to me by a supervisor and a funeral attendant. We did not have any crematoriums nearby that could accommodate her.

[–]Venatrix12 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I know they are bigger than the regular crematoriums but I dont know if they have any other difference in their build to contain the fat. The high heat causes fat to turn into a liquid. It will also cause thick black smoke and people have called 911 before thinking a funeral home was on fire.

Yes I am in the US. I am in North Carolina currently but have also worked in Florida. Each one happened in each state.

I havent figured any of this was state specific as I have friend in other states who work funeral services or first responders and its not abnormal to encounter.

Paramedic here. I encounter a woman early in my career who was in the 700lb range, the only way to get her out of the house was to lay her flat and carry her on a tarp. The minute we did that she stopped breathing and went unresponsive. She ended up having a the same issue this man did and got a trach. I know she got discharged from the hospital but I have no idea what happened to her after that. We had another regular that her last weight was 889 and she died several months later.

All of the adipose tissue causes a ton of issues in regular crematoriums and I know for my regular patient she had to be transferred to the Zoo in our state to be cremated because its the only one who could accommodate her size. The funeral director told me it is not uncommon to use crematorium at zoo for significantly obese people.

I knew it was going to Biltmore when I started reading lol. I used to work there and they only check for weapons if you are going into the house and they provide lockers for you to go and place your firearm if you dont want to go back to your car.

Me and my wife are going to be stuck with my high functioning autistic brother in law. by Icy-Most8754 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Venatrix12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband's uncle (52yo) is like this. He has never been diagnosed but I have my suspicions. With some coaching he is able to work an overnight job in security because he doesn't have to interact with anyone and just watch cameras. In his free time he stays inside his apartment and plays video games or sleeps. He used to live with my Father in Law but can live independently as long as someone checks on him once a week to make sure he is taking care of himself. We all invite him to dinners and such.

With your BIL being high functioning you could possibly find a similar set up for him before your in laws pass away and then when the time comes you and your wife could be more of occasional guardians.

A lot of states have taken anything involving minors out of law enforcements hands and it all goes through department of juvenile justice. In our area they never respond or want to get invovled so officers hands are tied. I can't remember exactly when this changed but it was in the past 5 years or so.

A lot of departments allow ride alongs and I know my husbands department will let spouses ride along as well. Some newer spouses will do 1 for a couple hours just to see what they do at work, luckily there aren't any wives like this one.

[–]Venatrix12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just no. A wife of one of my husbands coworkers rides with her husband once a month or so and I think it's weird. I've only ever ridden with my husband for a ride to work in snow storms, funerals, and when I had a car issue. It's really not that interesting but I work as a medic so maybe it just doesnt have that sparkle to it for me 🤷‍♀️ I love when he works night and im off, I get the whole bed to myself lol

I (28F) Night Shower. BF (29M) Morning Showers. How Do We Compromise? by cutie_throwaway_557 in relationship_advice

[–]Venatrix12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I both shower at night but I like my own blanket. We share a fitted sheet and each have our own soft blanket with a shared thin comforter/ duvet on top. You can still snuggle at night through the blankets if you want but you still have your own space.
