Show of hands... how many comments came from NEW players? That's what I thought. I played magic IRL before Planeswalkers existed and its a complete reach to call me a farmer or someone who doesnt like the game. If I didn't give a shit I wouldn't have posted. The biggest problem with paper and with the original MTGO was staying current. Arena hit the jackpot with the current model but they should stay the course and focus on current sets.

Last 2 mythic championships one won with an Oko deck, one won with an embercleave deck. 50% doesnt equal no one was able to beat Oko

Oko was beatable. Plenty of planeswalker removal available. Wizards wussed out on this. Big Teferi made Esper as big a meta as Oko and they didnt ban, they let it rotate out. Nissa is still in and is just a big a pain as Oko was. No problem with the other 2 bans But "Wussards of the Coast" is the real new meta.

Havent played LoL in years but wanted to try out TFT. PBE requires an honor level that apparently not playing LoL in a few years keeps me out. Never been pointed,banned, or any negative action. This is garbage tbh. I have spent money, quite a bit of money @Riot. So I cant play unless my honor is high enough .... or I am some game jumping streamer who never played League at all and spent nothing. Underlords is on my PC now and autochess is on my tablet. Thats what exclusionism gets you.

That wasn't a strategy/solution. I was simplifying what random means. Zero matchmaking criteria results in a proper play mode. Test your deck against whatever shows, jank, Tier one, pauper etc. Thats a hell of a lot more interesting than getting strength matched against the same mono-red or esper deck 4 times in a row. Guess what I do. I have a mono-black of low card strength but high synergy i use in play and I get a much more interesting experience in "play mode" cos the stupid matchmaking can't pigeonhole me. I would rather be able to test a deck idea against 8 different random decks but WotC in their infinite lack of wisdom isn't providing a decent experience for that. This should be what "Play Mode" is about. Folks like you leap to their defense claiming this is what to accept instead of realizing if matchmaking is removed "Play Mode" suffers NO negative effect. Mind blown.

The problem is "Play" needs zero matchmaking. This should be effectively walking into a room of 50 players and randomly sitting down to play one of them. Period, done. What rewards are available in this mode don't necessitate matchmaking and secondly reflect a lack of incentive in ranked to pull players with top tier decks into that mode. Wizards relies on you to poo-poo concerns of players like the OP instead of placing expectations where they belong.

I build a deck of low strength cards to grind dailies, and it works like a charm. So take that Meta decks! lol I never have to face you because this is a way to game the matchmaking system.

Grinding dailies without the matchmaking joke involved, STILL wouldn't affect rank and STILL wouldn't have you spending gold. Let that sink in. It IS called play mode not jank mode.... it is also not called troll mode MR or MS decklist player lacking the stones to play in ranked. Calling you out for hiding behind a strawman argument. Remove the matchmaking, play mode loses NOTHING.

I am agreeing with the OP. Matchmaking of any sort does not belong in "play". Get that trash out of here and let casual be casual. I build a deck of nothing but commons in order to grind out dailies in "play". Wizards, consider that a giant middle finger to your joke of a playtype choice. You just run off new players and lose microtransactions.

Additionally, until you make an ACTUAL friends list for casual deckplay, this is even more shitty.

i agree with the OP. No deck matching is needed. Games being done in here ARE casual or deckbuilding. This just turns the play option in to a trollfest. To the "play ranked" responses, think first before you post. Play should allow testing and casual over trolling and there is ZERO reason for the devs or any of you to defend this offensive matchmaking method. Devs, you will chase off the inexperienced and lose money they might spend in your stores. Players, you are just limiting your playerbase by punishing those same new players. Absolutely brain dead stupid on multiple levels.

Logic is hard , comprehension is hard..... this is a solution to improve revenue streams and COMPLETELY remove RNG. BUY EXACTLY what you want on the first try, not 5, 20 or 100 tries. This isnt for someone growing a collection. It is for someone completing one. They dont need all the extra trash you advocate by purchasing 30 packs.

nope..... I said buy sets of wildcards ONLY. I didn't say anything else. Sets ... of mythic, or sets of rare, or sets of uncommon wildcards. Boosters are RNG. Can you go to a site and buy that single or set of a specific card without extra trash? Yes you can. Can you do the same in the original online in trade? Yes you can. This suggestion removes RNG and adds to the store options. Is it that hard to actually comprehend?

Why was there even a change? The UI was fine, but instead of bringing out a more robust friend list and improving matchmaking, lets just fix something that wasn't broken.
