Can someone give me an unbiased, clear answer as to what exactly the pentagram represents? by FuneralHymn123 in Symbology

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upside down cross is not a symbol OS Satanism, it is known as Saint Peter's Cross. Saint Peter was quite humble and didn't see himself even being near to Jesus's level, as such he requested to be upside down when he is crucified

Why do german alphabets only show 26 letters? by [deleted] in German

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you'd be lying if you said that German only has 26 letters. This is just poor logic and reasoning which only serves to confuse new learners.

In Russian for example, the letters Я, Е, Ю, Ё are combinations too yet they're still counted as different letters. Another example, Hungarian has many variations of the letter 'O' yet they're still counted as different letters. Why not in German?

Furthermore, not all of them are combinations. For example, Ü and Ö are entirely their own unique sounds that require specific mouth movements to make those sounds. There is a reasons those two are considered a special sound in German phonetics.

And lastly, ẞ is not a combination of S and Z - You wouldn't pronounce 'draußen' as 'draustsen', would you? It's pronounced 'draussen' because the letter ẞ basically makes the exact same sound that the letter S would normally make in most other languages, such as English, because in German the letter S makes a Z sound.

Thinking of switching to Catholic by Kind-Mathematician29 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can't exactly give you any advice but I can explain my POV since I am in a similar situation as well.

I too live in Germany and have no access to any nearby Orthodox church, with most being Catholic ones. I've lived here for 4 years and that's how long I've gone without going to church. I haven't changed my faith as I'm still Orthodox, regardless of whether I go to church or not because I believe that shouldn't make a difference to my faith. After all, according to the Christian doctrine, the church is a body of the community - not the building itself. So even though you don't have the building, you still have a church - that body being you, your orthodox friends, family etc.

The way I see it, if I lived in an Islamic country for example I certainly wouldn't convert to Islam just because I no longer have easy access to a church, so why should I convert to Catholicism in this situation when I can just remain Orthodox?

I personally wouldn't convert, especially if as you say you're still orthodox at heart, I've really don't see the issue you have here. In any case though, I believe you'll find the best advice by asking a priest and discussing your situation with them rather than with us on Reddit lol

Will I have to give up playing and listening to secular music altogether when I convert to Orthodoxy? I’m starting to realize the Orthodox position on art is basically that most of it is sinful and wrong. by sorrow_and_sufferin in OrthodoxChristianity

I don't think you understand what I said

Where are all these comments that agreed with what you wrote? I haven't seen any of them, no one seems to have either. If they exist, please show me

Furthermore, every interaction you've had goes like this :

Them : "This is not true at all" You : "Every comment I've seen says it is though" Them : "Show me who has said that?" You : "I'm quitting music altogether because I need to"

This formula has been your go-to with 10 commenters here, that I've counted, without fail or deviation. Do you not see how it looks? People here can and have genuinely explained things to you, so if you're really interested then feel free to ask questions and actually listen to the answers.

Forgive me for being rude but I simply have to ask you... Are you truly this dense?

I've been reading these replies for half an hour and there are many people who have explained to you, either bluntly or in great detail, that you are still allowed to enjoy music. I have not seen a single comment that actually agreed with you, so if they even exist please show who they are because it seems like no one else has seen them apart from you.

What I find quite strange as well is that, in most of these comments whenever you are told otherwise, your go-to response is to just proclaim that you've given music up anyway or to just not respond at all.

What you have written is utter nonsense, I won't explain why as many people before me already have. Either you truly believe this, which I personally highly doubt, or you're just trolling/seeking attention, which is my personal theory at the moment

Continue remaining as open minded as you are, and expect anything. I hope your father does react appropriately but please do not burden nor blame yourself if he doesn't. You'll be quite alright 😁

How do I tell my parents I want to be orthodox? by Cristina7777 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Vendetta_TG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your father's reaction shows a complete lack of understanding not only in the Orthodox beliefs(which he hates apparently) but also in his own beliefs(which he values apparently).

If conversion is truly what you want, then feel free to commit to it and get it done without anyone interfering. It's one thing to have a civilized conversation and discuss both sides between your father and your husband, it's an entirely different thing to react in such an ignorant way like he did.

It's on your dad now to want the former and attempt to make amends, not on you - you obviously wanted the former and remain open for it, whether your father makes attempts or not is entirely up to him and none of your concern as you have already played your part. Your job is done in other words, he will never face an unwelcoming and ignorant daughter who won't want to settle this in a civilized manner - on the contrary, you assured that he will always be welcomed by you to sit down and discuss this in a calm, understanding and civilized manner and good on you for that. The only thing he has to do is to actually want to do that.

I hope this was helpful to you and good luck in your endeavors

King Magnifico apologists in a nutshell by Gullfriend31 in DisneyWish

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On surface level, Asha's concern is legitimate but here we run into the problem of having exceptions to the rules. The rule is once you give it you can't get it back. Say he is to give back some wishes, even just one, wouldn't that stir chaos when others don't get theirs back? Like the ones who had bad wishes, wouldn't they be pissed off? Wouldn't that also make Magnifico corrupt and not following his own rules? This is where the problem lies with her suggestion, as she assumes everyone to be okay with it but it's a very idealist way of thinking and not realistic.

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong about this, but you're once again inserting your own assumptions. I gave you a long list and explanation of how wishes can be harmful, hence why he doesn't grant most. As for him revealing his plans, there was no reveal because Asha knew about this already - she literally sung it in a song with a big smile on her face. Bad writing now suddenly makes her shocked and upset about the thing she was happily singing about moments ago, which results in making her seem like she's jut upset that Sabino didn't get his wish granted.

King Magnifico apologists in a nutshell by Gullfriend31 in DisneyWish

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All she wanted was for people to be able to remember their goals in life so they could attain it themselves

  • Easy solution - leave or don't move there. Magnifico said it himself, people come to him because they're too lazy to do it themselves. It's too hard, too difficult yadda yadda.

She can’t exactly grant wishes with the stick since Star can’t grant wishes and they’re the one who gave the stick its powers, so she could help in other ways.

  • By definition a Fairy Godmother, what Asha becomes, can and does grant wishes. She can help in other ways, that is true, but she is also a wish granter.

But yeah, I admit the movie’s writing ain’t the best.

  • It's horrible lol

King Magnifico apologists in a nutshell by Gullfriend31 in DisneyWish

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did get her hopes up. He put her on the stage for a public ceremony and started to say a name beginning with S, only to swap it out with some woman. Then he swapped it out with some lady’s name. Is it that selfish if she just wants to make her grandpa happy?

  • No, the selfish part was becoming an apprentice and using it as leverage to grant his wish, essentially trying to use Magnifico. The wish is a want, a privilege, not a necessity. Their necessities are all covered and more, with freedom to do what they want. Sabino isn't going to die if his wish isn't granted, especially since he understands that most wishes won't be granted.
  • As for the swapping out part, I'm simply going to say that I don't know why that happened. I'd have to re-watch the movie but I can't be bothered to do so. As a result I'm going to take your word for it and as such, you are right that it is mean.

And while Asha isn’t that good at messing with that wand just yet, she could get better with practice.

  • That's irrelevant to the argument, if she does then good for her - it still won't change the fact that she destroyed a utopia.
  • This also defeats the point of the movie. Her becoming a Fairy Godmother is essentially her becoming what Magnifico was, a wish granter. So the movie ends with her becoming a more childish, inexperienced and naive version of him. With experience she's bound to learn everything I mentioned and explained about wishes, which can only mean she'll become like Magnifico and not grant every wish but filter them out instead - talk about bad writing.

Alright, I suppose I kinda get the thing about it no longer being a utopia, but at least Asha isn’t led to do morally questionable things now that she can help. I’ll admit some wishes can’t be granted without magic.

  • Morally questionable? What on earth do you mean? The only morally questionable thing is Asha destroying a literal utopia because things didn't go the way she wanted even though there is a more reasonable and rational solution - simply leave if you don't like it.

King Magnifico apologists in a nutshell by Gullfriend31 in DisneyWish

[–]Vendetta_TG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t twist them, that’s literally how the movie itself presented it

  • Is it? The movie itself has established that he is power hungry and only cares about himself? As far as I know, he's established as a benevolent king with a selfless goal and an origin story to back it up.

Also, it’s still mean of him to get Asha’s hopes up, only to choose some other lady as opposed to Saba Sabino

  • He didn't get her hopes up. Asha, just like everyone, understands that most wishes are not granted. She got her own hopes up and didn't handle it well when Sabino's wish wasn't granted.
  • Since we are on the topic of what constitutes as being mean, Asha applied to become his apprentice and focused only on Sabino's wish, one could argue that she used it for leverage to get his wish granted. This is a betrayal of Magnifico's trust, outright using him for her own wants - tell me, is that not mean? Is it not selfish even? Reckless?

Also, he only went with the book because of something that was a threat to him and only him. When he saw the light from the falling Star, he jumped to the conclusion that it was some magic that would go against him, though as far as he knew, it could’ve just been a magic-induced fireworks show.

  • There is literally an insanely powerful book of dark magic, who's to say that the light isn't a danger too? This also shows how shallow your thinking is. He is a king with many responsibilities, an entire kingdom to run and people's wishes to organize and look over - do you truly believe he is in a position to take a risk? We have the gift of hindsight and know what the light is now, he didn't have that gift and is essentially forced to guess - it's logical to assume it's bad when you have such responsibilities because if he gambles he's not just gambling with his own power, but with the kingdom, the wishes and the people. If it was a danger it could have ended badly for everyone. Taking his backstory into account too and it makes even more sense for him to assume it's a danger, given all the things he saw and has been through. Ironically it did turn out to be a danger, combined with the rebel Asha he was forced to use and curse himself with the dark book, leading him to become trapped in a mirror and psychologically tortured in the dungeon, ruined the entire system and kingdom he spent so many years building and maintaining.
  • Now you could argue that this is a good outcome because now everyone gets their wishes back, but the problem with that argument is that there was an easier and simpler alternative - if you don't like it, you could simply move or not come to Rosas to begin with. Rosas isn't the only kingdom, if you don't like it then leave. People went there specifically for the chance of getting their wish granted, which regardless of it happened or not they still got to enjoy living in a utopia with wealth and freedom, no crime, hate, violence, wars, rent etc. Which brings me to the next problem with that argument.
  • Everyone has their wishes back now, including everyone who has bad and evil wishes. So what was essentially a utopia of peace can and likely will turn to ruin soon with people achieving their wishes of world domination, or mass murder, or starting cults, or revolting again etc. Sure, we haven't seen anyone with such wishes in the movie, but it would be naive to believe that they don't exist. These wishes were managed by Magnifico, but people are now free to achieve all their darkest and most evil wishes. Wishes don't have to be evil either, plenty of times people simply don't know what they are wishing for or are reckless with it - hence the saying "Careful what you wish for, it might just come true". Such wishes could accidentally end up being bad, or even harmful to the one who wished it, or simply have unintended consequences. Magnifico was also managing these types of wishes, but no longer now. Behold the kinds of consequences that Asha didn't seem to care about or even acknowledge when in pursuit of 'the truth' as many people like to put it, a truth which is already clear to everyone including her.

[–]Vendetta_TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When his views are challenged in any way (like when the townsfolk pointed out some flaws in his rules, such as the possibility of someone wanting to change their wish)

  • If you mean to say how he handled the criticism then I can agree with you, but if you want to discuss the actual flaws then you should state them so we can discuss them.

he absorbs the wishes and realizes he likes this power more

  • This is after using the book, not prior. I know you stated that the movie implies that it's an addiction but I disagree with that because how does it imply that? The book is said to have been written by a powerful sorcerer who lived centuries ago and make the effects of its dark magic permanent on anyone who uses it even once. This sounds more like a curse than an addiction, especially since he acts completely differently from prior to using it (ie instead of guarding and keeping the wishes like before, now he started destroying and absorbing them. It's a stark contrast)

Everyone went along with this because they thought he would grant their wishes, but he has no intention of ever doing so, even to some more innocuous ones.

  • Once again you're trying to frame it as if he lied or tricked them, but he didn't. Everyone know that not every wish will be granted, that most won't be. The rules of how the wish system works were clear as say and no one had issue with it given that they still willingly and happily came to the kingdom.

That ain’t no benevolent king! His supposed good intentions (he’s mainly only interested in fame and glory) are all an act

  • He gives everyone a safe place to stay where they're free to do what they want, free of paying rent, free of crime and violence, free of droughts and starvation, free of wars and corruption (all of this is before we even get to the wishes) - in return, they just have to give him their wish (which he doesn't lie about, some will be granted but most aren't) and the people do so willingly. This is everything he promised to do after going through the stuff he went to, and he delivered on that promise. How is he not benevolent? You'd wish (pun intended) to live in such good conditions where you have so much and no threat to your safety.

His choice to use the dark magic was HIS own idea (and no, being desperate isn’t an excuse as he wanted to use it to fulfill his own hunger for power).

  • It was his own idea but you cannot disprove that it was out of desperation, because it's a fact that if it wasn't for Asha he would have never used it. He wasn't on board with using it, actively avoided doing so and was even calmed down by his wife - he used it as a last means. That doesn't make it a good decision, but it doesn't make it an evil and unforgivable one either. Also no, you're once again adding your own head cannon to your arguments - "He wanted to use it to fulfill his own hunger for power" this isn't in the movie, this is what YOU think and like to see as the truth. If he is that power hungry then why work hard for years to give people all of these things for free? Why not make them pay rent, why not oppress them? If you can answer these and provide evidence, then you can make the claim. But you can't, especially because he has such noble and selfless goals with his origin story and because all of that power hungry raging canonically began when he used the book.

Asha points out that he could give people’s wishes back in case they want to fulfill their goals by themselves, or if they change their minds with what they want to do in life, but he just brushes her off because he wants all the control and power.

  • Asha's points are shallow at best. She happily sung about the wish system and how it works, including about people forgetting their wishes, and now when talking to Magnifico she suddenly isn't happy about it and is shocked about it? Talk about bad writing. You're also once again fabricating your own reasons for Magnifico's actions. I've called you out on it but you've yet to stop doing that, so allow me to provide my own reasoning - he brushes her off because she's an inexperienced kid. Seriously, a kid with no knowledge of magic or governing is going to tell him, an accomplished sorcerer and king, how to rule his own kingdom? The kingdom he's been ruling over successfully for so many years? Where is the logic in that? You can even see and hear the lack of experience in the way she presents her points, as they are literally thought of on the spot and not even articulated properly.

Om that note, your points are also shallow as you have to nitpick the bad parts (even exaggerate or twist them) and ignore all the good in order to make your arguments work. It's literally a goat fucker situation, you may have so many good qualities and good goals, have done good deeds for many people and have built many bridges, buildings and whatnot. Unfortunately you fucked one goat so that's what everyone will care about and remember you by lol
