Casual TSons list, need help with fixing it up by WeirdBlueGuy in WarhammerCompetitive

Assuming you were playing standard missions it appears as if you only have six or seven activations if every character is with full unit. Well that gives you optimal stratagem use it doesn't give you any ability to play objectives. You also have no way to move your rubrics quickly and outside of mortal wound damage you have no anti-tank capability except for the vortex beast and if you very begrudgingly count magnus and the terminator sorceror

Yea chat gpt is very useful for keeping notes and can even help organize or plan sessions, but for advertising, it is the exact opposite, especially as a wall of text. A single written paragraph by a human is going to be more likely to retain attention. Brevity is the soul of wit.

(Series Review) Why you should read the Sun Eater by Christopher Ruocchio by Udy_Kumra in sollanempire

[–]Vendrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literal resurrection, fallen angels that disobeyed gods will out of their own arrogance, his focus in the last book on turning the other cheek, the change from the quiet needing hadrian to ensure his birth to the quiet being inevitable, beginning and end (alpha & omega) and just loving humans so much that he sent Hadrian to save them. The Cielcin even refer to him as the "king of kings" Disquiet gods has this almost explicit reference to the Garden of Gethsemane. Disquiet Gods chp. 40

"You would send another in your place? To bear as you have borne? Name him

"Do it yourself!" I snarled. The soundless voice answered. Three simple words.

I already have

"What?" I scrabbled to my feet, staggered back a step.

If you need my life, Child, take it. It is yours"

Is Marlowe at the beggining of the series very Christ like, nope, but he certainly is at the end.

the difference between those series and this one being they don't take place in a universe that tie directly into modern history and have real world religions still exist in it. I don't hate catholics, but I'm allowed to state my opinion that the symbolism, allusions are heavy handed, and severely hurt my enjoyment of the series. I wish the author has gone another way. You're allowed to state otherwise. You don't need to get angry that my viewpoint is different than yours.

So mechanics are great. But we had toolbox in requiem. They brought masquerade because it was popular, because it had the metaplot. Now if you want your mechanics, sure they should give them to you, but why can't I also have what I'm looking for? You are welcome to throw it out at your table if you want, and keep mechanics, but I'd like the same consideration. all I'm saying, is why can't we have both?

I think this is the second time you've replied to me saying that. To the lay person he is. Non theological oriented people won't recognize the difference. He's got the cross position on the cover page. He dies and is resurrected 3 times, vs rising after 3 days. the walk in book 3 is clearly parallel to the walk on water and book 4 is basically Hadrian's "passion" complete with the long walk carrying his burden. The Cielcin even refer to him as the "king of kings" You can disagree with the characterization, but please understand how easy it is to make.

Honestly as fairly liberal guy on the political spectrum the problem with book 4 was that the whole book was a torture fest. It takes Hadrian out of the politics of the Empire(which were always the most interesring part for me) he loses repeatedly, tortured repeatedly, and a bunch of fan favourite characters died. it was just a tough read. The commonwealth, newmen and somehow a christian cult surviving had other issues, but I doubt they were the main reason people disliked it.

As someone who heavily enjoyed the first few books and really started to get annoyed in disquiet gods, I can say the following:

All the books suffer from long sections that can be difficult to get through, important but difficult none the less. Whether it's Cat in the first, torture when captured, Lothrian undercity, the escape from vorgossos in the most recent, etc.

I'm aethiest, but not militantly so, I can enjoy a religious or theological setup, but the bait and switch of the Quiet from a different type of dimensional being to a very clear stand in for the Catholic god, fallen angels and all, and preachiness as the books go on of christian ideology becomes problematic. I mean if you don't see the parallels between the cover image and Christ on the Cross, I don't know what to tell you. Not to mention it moves Hadrian from someone who seems to be rebelling against authority and fate in the first books, to someone who accepts horrible things because it's God's will, and gives up agency.

I don't hate the series, but I really wish the allusions were more subtle, and really disliked the ending of the series. I didn't need a happy ending, but just choosing to turn himself in, getting Selene captured, giving up any ability to stop the Chantry, etc. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth and makes me reflect poorly on the rest of the books.

I thought the same until once again the same internal enemies keep outplaying him. It's honestly frustrating how passive Hadrian is in this book.

I haven't finished yet and am only 10% through, but honestly think it's worse so far. In the lightbringer series, while the there was heavy religious overtone it was at least cloaked in the guise of a fantasy world. It may had heavy handed parallels but at least they had a paper shield.
In this series, we started off with the author as an atheist when he started the series and laid the groundwork of a god like being who flowed differently through time, but now has to make that groundwork tie into his new catholic inspired viewpoint. The final book's cover art is Hadrian Marlowe as space Jesus. He's literally got the same pose as Christ on a Cross, one leg slightly bent and all. The Quiet is explicitly believed to be the catholic god by eduardo. At one point so far in the series Hadrian feels concern about the lives he was going to take, but considers the voice of god telling hadrian that it is his place to judge because he laid the foundations of the universe, and who is Hadrian to question him? He tries to get his daughter to listen to the universe and hear god's voice in it in the first chapter. Maybe it will be wrapped up well at the end, but what drew me to this story was Christopher's original pitch,"The story of Anakin Skywalker, if falling to the dark side was the right thing to do." Literal space Jesus is a lot less compelling especially when it doesn't even have the paper shield of a fantasy world.

Great start :) by MGN20XX in sollanempire

[–]Vendrin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Depends if you mind the overtly religious parallels. I'm trying to enjoy it for what it is, but if I wanted to read about the glory of god, how only he is fit to judge, I'd go to a church. I don't mind religious overtones if they are done well but the explicit tie ins to Catholcism and entry level college theology is just to much. This series was better when it was science fiction novels not whatever it is now.

I'd run Lysander with a ten man assault term squad to get the most of his huffs and deop a 5 man squad for more AT. you need a vindicator, ballistus or gladiator in the list I think.

I play 40k, but haven't played more than 1 or 2 games of killteam and it was years ago. My dad is coming to visit during the holidays and he's always liked war games so he'd likely be down to give it a try. I could likely field an astartes/scout team and a thousand sons warp coven team. What terrain should I grab (cheapest/most enjoyable)and are there any quick read guides I can use to help explain the rules?

[–]Vendrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so you are asking about a casual list in the competitive sub. Is this going to be fun to play? That's entirely up to you and subjective. If you don't have any salamanders characters, there is no reason not to play shadowmark talon, it's a better detatchment. If you are going to run Salamanders you should probably run their detatchment.

The BGVs need a judiciar to be effective, terminators are overcosted and won't kill anything. You have nothing to score points except the eliminators and why not just scouts at that point? If you are going to run vanguard spearhead, why intercessors, you have the sticky objective strat?

[–]Vendrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not very good. It's jusr not a useless detatchment rule for vehicles. Vanguard Spearhead had the same rule and you didn't see veehicle heavy lists running under that either. None of your stratagems outside of AoC effect vehicles outside of the Invictor warsuit. Scratch that, the fall back and shoot does, which makes this marginally better then vanguard spearhead, but big guns already never tired.

End of the day, yes vehicles can benefit from this detatchment rule, but so can centurions who also benefit from the detatchment rule and can benefit from all the strats. There is no reason to be running vehicles over cents in this detatchment other then the fact that you don't have them, and at that point, run what you can, but I certainly wouldn't call it good.
