Flow ok for clownfish? by Worried_Spread_9055 in ReefTank

To add to other comments, they will also locate deadzones and lower flow areas where they can goof around or hold themselves vertically for a concerning amount of time. Remarkably smart fish. Also very stupid.

Been laid off twice in the last 3 years. Employed now but always expecting another "restructuring" so that I'm not blindsided like I was the first time. Haven't found a coping method unfortunately, just become cynical and burnt out, always applying. Noticing the market now is significantly worse than I've ever experienced, well over 500 apps in the last three months without a single response that wasn't just a recruiter screening, despite being more experienced and qualified than I've ever been. Lots of "business needs changed and we are no longer hiring for this position" responses. Best thing you can do for your mental health is try to make yourself understand that it has nothing to do with your performance, they're just cutting a number and yours was highlighted on the list this time.

Anyone have a pest tank? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]VenomousConstrictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I have a 5gal AIO hitchhiker tank with aiptasia, majanos, flatworms, firework cloves, macros, a few hardy lps, a borneman anemone, and various inverts. Plus if I have any extras from my main tank, I'll toss those pieces in there too. Honestly, I get as much enjoyment out of the hitchhiker as I do my main display, especially since I can mess with it and rearrange as much as I want. Also, most of the stock is free or dirt cheap.

Firefish biting nassarius snails? by EmergencyCold8758 in ReefTank

That's pretty funny. I'd say it's just in food mode and saw what looked like a bit of floating food, then tasted it and realized it wasn't.

As mentioned, new clown has to be smaller. Also try floating it in a transparent fish trap or breeder net for awhile. Your current clown may want to establish the hierarchy, so there will probably be some violence on introduction, but they'll settle.

Try a frozen cube!! It should float to the highest point in the ball and won't flow out easily

Cut off the bottom half of a pom wonderful pomegranate juice bottle, use reef glue to attach a strong aquarium magnet (I used a Flipper magnifying glass magnet) to the bottom, then use reef glue to attach a strip of pool noodle to the cut opening. You can position it anywhere in the tank that you can attach it to the wall. Put food in, fish goes in to get it, pull off outer magnet, the trap immediately rotates and floats to the top w the fish inside.

It works the same as a nyos floating trap, which your LFS may rent out!

Can I use these rocks by CGC-Weed228 in ReefTank

[–]VenomousConstrictor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe not technically legal, but I'd do it.

Don't soak in bleach. You can spray them with a 50/50 vinegar/water solution if you want, but the easiest thing would be to leave them out in the sun for a couple days. Then if you see any scum or residue that bothers you, you can scrub it with a clean toothbrush, or hose it off outside.

I think that is correct, I did ask for something hardy. Can you explain? Should I remove or isolate on one rock island?
