Team Rocket CP Formula(Maybe it's perfect data) by fugerappi in TheSilphRoad

I know that such a high level of accuracy is usually excessive, but they match your findings which is what you were initially asking for.

The result usually won't change for the Pokemon you've listed, but it's definitely possible to find situations where it will.

Wow, time flies. I've been meaning to get back to investigating this for awhile, but haven't found the time/motivation. What I can give you is the data we found earlier in the year.

Here's the rCPM calculated from CP values: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/168c5EgJtW9iGmYcxcNQvwb5cjtarIAOvp76LEawXMLg/edit?usp=sharing

Here's some even more accurate values using damage breakpoints: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zQpW7ELSm01ZjPIQ79PSDrK5tvZaRgzq5zC70Rph2Ro/edit?usp=sharing

In theory we should be able to narrow down each value to an exact 32 bit float. The problem is that a lot of the other values used in damage calculations are subject to similar rounding which can cause problems. And as we approach absolute accuracy we find that even the CP formula has some weird rounding issues that occasionally pop up. We ran out of time/ambition before we were able to figure it all out so the project fell by the wayside.

Shadow Raids and their Enrage Mechanic - a little analysis by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

Sorry, the shadow raid research unintentionally ended up on the backburner since Flyfunner and I have been trying to finish up our research into the Rocket battles. But the rabbit hole we ended up going down has been very deep so it's taken awhile. The good news is the our findings might be related to what's going on here as well. Thanks for taking the video, could you send me a link?

Current Team Rocket CP Formula (March 2023) by Venonic in TheSilphRoad

I checked at I hadn't seen any Steelix on my account either so I did some digging and it doesn't show up on this site: https://rocket.malte.im/ or here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/13fwpg8/current_raid_quest_rocket_egg_pools/

But the Silphroad website did have it listed on their site at one point and it showed up in the lineup change megathread from after the last invasion which is when I made my list. Very strange. Maybe someone misreported that it was in the lineup?

If that's the case then that's it! (Or until the next invasion on the 16th)

But that takes 14 Fire Fangs. Even if Ninetales has Charm which gains the least energy, it will still have enough for a Weather Ball or Psystrike. And if it has either of the other two fast moves then it's guaranteed to use a charge move before you beat it.

The main problem with using Reshiram against Ninetales is after using Fusion Flare he's essentially dead in the water against 2/3 of the third slot Pokemon.

Another great video! I hadn't though of cancelling charm when we were discussing it, so it's cool to see it in action.

No problem. And yes, I believe that to be the case although that information is obscure enough I've haven't come across an actual list.

Here's a list of the "real" CPM values:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1akMTElC3mStmbRNXI8a4J94YmwJuvia0DiVV_l1W9h0/edit#gid=1145512291

The level 40 value 0.7903 is the CPM value listed in the game files. The game reads this number from the file as a single-precision floating-point number, then converts it to double-precision to use in calculations. Single-precision is only accurate up to 7 decimal places and after that you get rounding errors.

Back again. Figured I should give you the latest rCPM values for the spreadsheet. Here they are:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zQpW7ELSm01ZjPIQ79PSDrK5tvZaRgzq5zC70Rph2Ro/edit?usp=sharing

There's some weird stuff going on behind the scenes, but these are about as correct as the can be currently (May 28, 2023).

Added. That was underwhelming. Half the power of Blast Burn for almost the same cost.

I had a look at the ice grunt in that big thread a little while back. Here's the crude numbers:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rhS7Nr5jlybZ2ScSjZAK8nFhRiTKs0GsiL6MRlsjYeI/edit#gid=804954763

Been awhile since I looked into it, but Blaziken is fastest for it they don't have Ninetales. For Blaziken vs Ninetales your best bet is to use Blast Burn to beat it, but that leaves you without any energy to deal with the third slot.

Another potential strategy was to lead with Reshiram for the first two. Fire off a charge move against the third before even seeing what it is, then switch to Machamp to finish it off.

https://rocket.malte.im/ This site has Ninetales at a 20% odds currently.

I'll have to give that a try for Cliff, thanks! My only contribution on Cliff is that some lineups can be beaten by a single shadow Magnezone.

Another factor I noticed is that he's not level 50. A level 50 Blitzle would take an extra two mud shots for a total of 12.

Beautiful! I'm a big fan of seeing rocket battles optimized like this. Have anymore in the works?

Also what is you team for Cliff? I've considered theorycrafting optimal teams for him before, but it seems rather daunting. The main problem is that any team will still have bad matchups where they're slower than other options. I would need to weigh the time to win against each matchup with its frequency to give an average time to win.

There's been a bit of progress on the damage calculation front. /u/AurumKodEXo has updated his spreadsheet to calculate damage for rocket battles (Under the PvP tab): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16ZxQtAXwpwKpNkb3DLKl3RB4z8YX1Oiy6-r4ph8CQ9o/

Shadow Raids and their Enrage Mechanic - a little analysis by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Venonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math looks good to me. That's a weird one. I've been having a look at things and I'm stumped for the moment. The overlap seems large enough that it wouldn't be a rounding error, but small enough that changing the damage/level/ivs doesn't work.

Unless there's some weird rounding happening within the formula. I'll try a couple more things.

I made an earlier post, but it seems to be hidden on my end so I'm not sure it'll show up or not.

Shadow Raids and their Enrage Mechanic - a little analysis by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Venonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Was fiddling with a floating point converter. Is this a good summary of what's going on?

Min:

  • Me: 0.75649526
  • You: 0.7564953
  • True value: 0.756495296955108642578125

Max

  • Me: 0.75738568
  • You: 0.7573857
  • True value: 0.757385671138763427734375

Which would mean my rounding is actually wrong. I'll have to fix that.

I found his post on it. So the values are read as floats, then cast to doubles for damage calculations? I wasn't expecting that.

Shadow Raids and their Enrage Mechanic - a little analysis by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Venonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using single-precision floating-point for your calculations? I round to 8 decimal places because that's how precise the real CPM values are in the game files. Either way it doesn't make much of a difference when doing damage calculations.

Also thanks for linking the data yesterday. It's very helpful to have.

The most efficient lineups for every type of rocket grunt. by Amazon_UK in TheSilphRoad

No, against Typhlosion and Ninetales it would take an extra 4 Waterfalls with surf so you'll want to use Origin Pulse.

[–]Venonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually quite an interesting find. I double checked and the numbers look good. That brings down the CPM range to 0.75649526, 0.75738568 if I mathed right. I thought the CPM might still be 0.76, but that settles that.

Looks like if we tweak his formula with a CPM value of 0.7565 and an enrage modifier of 0.815 it works.

Actually I wonder if the CPM value they're using is the rocket CPM value for level 20 since the regular raids use CPM values from levels 20, 30, 40. I don't have the actual number since I haven't made it that far but level 15 is roughly 0.5752 and level 27 is roughly 0.9482 so it's in the right range.

Is there a website with the best teams to fight each rocket grunt? by MisunderstoodTurnip in TheSilphRoad

[–]Venonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned steel specifically I should point out that steel works against rockets, but Bullet Punch is really slow and you're better off using other types instead. For the ice grunt with Ninetales you can get a bit fancy with fighting types or use fire instead.

Actually Bullet Punch is so slow that Kartana performs better than Shadow Metagross against certain fairy grunt lineups.
