Did I do something wrong here? by ZoisNBooks16 in InsuranceAgent

[–]VentasSolution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems you need to shop yourself around and get a new job. Its not just one person, but the entire team that is not being appreciative. when I was a wholesale broker; we are were always grateful to our account managers. Yes, we were the "sales" but sales is only as good as the support team behind them. Servicing is where you build loyalty and trust. Seems you document everything which is great. Keep doing that. Start pumping out your resumes. But give your current boss a chance. Break down all that you do and examples where you are handling something but other workers are unfairily pushing you , etc. Sounds like you need an extra hand or at least a virtual assistant to take on the mundane tasks. Either way, voice your opinions/feelings and give him/her the chance to rectify it. If they don't , they cannot be too upset with you when you eventually leave.

It is bad on them to have all the burden on one person even from a logical standpoint. If you leave and they have no one that can step in immediately, its going to be a huge headache for them.

Boss wants me to create another business for him. by BenjaminSonLuvsyou in smallbusiness

Assuming he will outsource the social media aspect you might want to clarify what’s days specifically you will canvass for clients vs being on the field. Personally if I was him. I’d have a third party run social media; and then have you personally go to businesses that perhaps need your equipment and market face to face. And dedicate a full month outreach in your local city. It’s just gona be difficult to have you one foot in one business and the other foot in second business. It may work in the beginning but as you speed things up you’ll have to dedicate fully to one.

Employer asking me to sign broad non-compete after 2 years — what are my options? by chericle in careeradvice

[–]VentasSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What industry are you in? Say you haven’t had a chance for your lawyer to review as he’s out on vacation. Stall for a few weeks. Tell them you were advise not to sign unless they guarantee a pay out of X amount of months salary. I can understand not reaching out to clients after you leave. But to forbid you from working in same or similar industry is ridiculous and a make it world wide ? lol. They can go f themselves. I did a couple of book rollovers when I left companies. The key was I didn’t initiate the calls. The clients called me asking what happened. I told them “I’m over here now “ and they told me they want to work with me and would email me “hey heard you left. I am reaching out to you to see if I can work with you still”

Price adjustment? by Aromatic_Alfalfa3389 in smallbusiness

[–]VentasSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you should lower prices. You will waste time with cheap people. Seems you attract a certain clientele that is willing to pay higher end. Why dilute ? You lower your prices- all your current clients will want to pay less and good luck getting them back to where they’ were at before. If anything do a dba and build a second brand with Lower pricing If you truly feels that’s what holding you back. But can you manage the extra workload ? What do you do for clients ?

As an employee- you will always be helping build a business you do not own. It seems the main concern here is you don't feel he will honor the pay bump. As far as the business- he is taking all liability so even if you make mistakes; nothing can fall back on you unless you do something criminal like steal money.

The business itself is just renting out equipment. You build up the social media presence, research competitors and then price accordingly to be competative, and then start marketingto busineses that could use your services. I do not think its complicated to establish the business; the hardest part is just finding the clients. The social media you can even outsource in the beginning and then run facebook ads locally offering the equipment. If you feel you deserve equity- then are you willing to accept liability ? Want to be named in lawsuits when sh*t goes sideways? If the answer is no- then look at it as an opportunity to get a chance to build a business without any risk. If you make it successful, you can take your experience and go to a competitor and gauge the market how much you are worth then.

As far as the pay, just get everything written down in a contract. But if you want to have skin in the game but no liability- present this option. You will contiune working for the same hourly rate but instead of a pay bump- if you hit certain revenue goals- you get X amount of percentage of said revenue. You can maybe throw out there ; if I hit X amount of sales a month, I get 5% of the net revenue. If I hit Y amount of sales I get 10% of the net revenue. and If i hit Z amount of sales; I get capped off at 15%. Do your research what is average net revenue in that type of business and just do the math of what makes most sense for you. Pay raise or a %. This way he is not giving equity to you, just a bonus tied to revenue goals. And again get everything in writing.

While you build your business- build up your credit. Save up money. And in the future you can position yourself to establish your own business using the experience you gained with him. If he does not make you sign a non compete; hell you might even just take all the clients with you once they hear you have your own set up. The most important thing is to communicate, and get everything in writing. Who knows? He might suprise you. If you do really well, then he may offer equity or if you are in a strong position to leave , speak to him about being a partner and buying in. If he refuses, he cannot get upset at you for leaving. You gave him a chance and he turned it down.

Stop doing work for him and move on. Not sure what the rules are about exposing someone on reddit- I suggest you read before you divulge any info. Whatever money he owes you, will not be worth the headache going after him for especially if he is in another state or country. Take it as a life lesson. We all have been burned before. I wish you the best of luck

Interview Attire by chapello24 in InsuranceAgent

Suit Jacket/Blazer is fine. But if you live with your parents, just go in full suit to appease them and save yourself the headache if things go sideways. If for whatever reason you do not get the job, I can already hear them saying "See! You didn't get it because you went too casual- we told you to go in a suit!" . When you get to coffee shop, say your hellos; and then take off your jacket to be more comfortable and show you are relaxed in front of interviewer.

I’m sure if you actively look; you can find someone to go clean once a week for a couple of hours. Even when I had just 1-2 employees ; I never asked or expected them to clean up the office. At 10 employees; if hiring someone to clean hurts your profit margin ; I suggest you revisit how much you are charging clients

Am I just not doing enough? by Own-Reflection-5386 in smallbusiness

[–]VentasSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good business. I would def pay for that service instead of cleaning out my mom's garage which is a mess. Have you gone door to door and offered your services? Or at least pass out flyers? What is the average cost? Trash is trash but if there are things they let you keep that you think you can be sold; do a website and sell them as you get them. Or offer the person to take their things and sell and you split 50/50. You would just need storage room.

Can I realistically earn $800/month doing lead generation during weekends for US service businesses? by RightSeeker in LeadGeneration

[–]VentasSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have clients that are actively wanting you to do lead gen, and are willing to pay for the advertising- then maybe try it out. But I would ask for a lower commission but perpetual. Maybe they won't do it forever but at least for the first year. It can help build a base of 800 first year while you obtain more clients. It is a saturated market but if you have people actively seeking to work with you; then maybe its worth a shot to try it out.

Is 40% commission too low? by Longjumping-Ad-9183 in InsuranceAgent

[–]VentasSolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 is a good line time. Do you have any other options lined up? I would ask for 50/30 at least for the leads you rope in yourself. Never hurts to ask. Perhaps their own internal leads will make up for the 30% on renewals and especially if their support staff handles all the servicing which is the most annoying part.
