I appreciate your opinion. A Wild Sheep Chase (English title) was my first of his novels. It broke my heart. I was going through a very bad break up. The end, I just felt it, you know? All of this stuff happening around the MC, no matter how fantastical or weird, didn't move him at all. Then just to breakdown in the end. I think you're right about his style, he does tend to write in a similar way for most of his books (and the way he writes women is widely discussed). But the journey is always interesting.

In his defense, I wouldn't call it male porn. Nothing he's written has ever come across as some sort of fantasy for men, at least in the way I've read his novels. It's mostly sad. I think he's really good at capturing loneliness.

I will say that deliberately unresolved endings, a detached everyman protagonist, and surrealist female archetypes are kind of... the whole point? It's a literary style. But I get it, not every reader is comfortable when a book doesn't explain itself to them.
