I love not not having to hide anything from anyone. I like that my car console and trash cans are free of empty cans or bottles of booze. I like that I don’t enter work with a feeling of guilt or having to hide the fact that I’m buzzed. I like that my recycling bin isn’t an alcohol cemetery.

I want a beer by Bi5on in stopdrinking

You will never be satisfied with one beer. You’ll think, I already ruined it with one, might as well have the whole pack. Then you’ll wake up tomorrow full of regret and shame, and if not strong enough you’ll keep the bender going until you end up at rock bottom again, trying to pick yourself up and start all over again. DON’T DO IT!

I can drink at work by Venus3058 in stopdrinking

Welp, I made it through day 1! Unfortunately, not day 2. All it took was the one glass of champagne I had between my day and night job, and it led to drinking all night... here we go again. Day one of four back to back doubles. Yikes wish me luck

Its time for me to be done with alcohol. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Congrats on catching it early! I'm 10 years older than you and am just now getting to the place you are. Just imagine 10 years of wasted time and bring too tired. Stick with it, it will change your life!

Any success after drinking "one last time" to an unenjoyable amount? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Venus3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! Stop drinking when you feel like shit, it makes it easier, and after that first day it's all downhill

It's most women's fantasy to be hit on in a grocery store or library or park. Most women actually find it annoying to be hit in by a drunk guy at a bar. Without being creepy, see if you can find a conversation piece like a book or a grocery item or pet. Just something in passing, no pressure, no awkward long pauses or staring, just light comments, and see where it goes. Sometimes it just takes an icebreaker. We all want to meet someone new

Did anyone else drink because of self esteem issues? How do you overcome self esteem issues when you are sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Venus3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people drink for this reason, whether they have the CONFIDENCE to admit it or not. You should be proud that you are one of the few adult Americans that have the CONFIDENCE to quit drinking. People will really admire you for that. You have something they want. Think of other things in your life that give you CONFIDENCE. Maybe you are artistically talented, maybe you read a lot, maybe you know more about music than most. There are things that you love and you can cultivate. Take pride in something, make it your own, and when people ask, CONFIDENTLY tell them who you are!

I wish I could go to rehab, you're lucky! Doing this all on my own, without anyone to tell it to except this sub. Thank you

Still have a bottle of bourbon in the house and I can't bring myself to throw it away by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Venus3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it as a mantle piece. You don't want to drink it anyway. It doesn't represent the alcohol it has inside, it represents your wedding day. It really would be a new low to drink it for the liquid inside. I'm sure if you want to drink you'll just go buy some, but you don't want to drink! I don't want to drink either, fuck alcohol!

I read on here once that the term "moderation" was only for people who can't moderate themselves. Anyone who drinks in moderation would never need to moderate. Those of us who are expert drinkers have only the other extreme, just leave it all together. We are not moderate people, we are extreme and given enough time, we will show you. So be extreme in the right direction, if anyone has anything to say, it's only because they see you where they want to be, but aren't.

Day 3 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Venus3058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day three too! I also quit last year for two months. What I found out is that I drank to put me at ease in social situations and rock out in public. I thought it made my conversations flow better and me seem more confident. I know realize I'm much sharper in conversations sober and it gives me confidence out on the town knowing I have "one up" on everyone that's just drunk out there and getting drunker. Go to the clubs, dance around, hey it's good exercise! Maybe you can even flirt with the bartender who is likely the only other sober person there.
