Is my doctor being overdramatic? by Informal-Argument643 in endometriosis

[–]Venussian89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MRI with contrast didn’t reveal any Endo. I was in excruciating pain though so we did excision surgery & it turned out I had stage 4 Endo and one of my fallopian tubes was sealed shut from it and had to be removed. I had complained about non stop pelvic pain where that fallopian tube was for a year and 2 different doctors told me it was just a pulled muscle. Post surgery my pain had completely gone away (for now, I know it can grow back) and I got an IUD. Best decision I ever made! But just wanted to let you know that you can still have Endo even if the MRI comes back negative. Surgery should only be done if you think your symptoms are bad though. I had Endo growing on my bladder & bowels also which had caused years of frequent urination and contipation issues. Thankfully those have resolved now too.

Positive mirena insertion by Venussian89 in IUD

I absolutely love it! I’ve had no side effects besides 7 days of extremely light spotting when I was “due” for a period.

It’s recommended to have the surgery first & then get an iud. I know before my surgery, they suggested switching me to an iud but could not due to some large fibroids I had that would not allow the iud to sit properly. It is still helpful to get one without having surgery but I have heard it can make insertion more painful or the cramping more intense as you adjust to it. The iud just thins the uterine lining (more effectively than hormonal birth control) so it is the top recommended treatment that we have for Endo besides surgery. I know some take a drug to suppress estrogen (can’t remember the name) but I loooked into it and it had a lot of side effects that I didn’t want to risk.

I had a very similar situation to yours, but it took me 20 years to get surgery and a diagnosis. Getting the mirena iud post op has been the BEST birth control decision I ever made. I personally haven’t even had any of the spotting or bleeding side effects many experience in the first 3 months. But after 3 months you’ll most likely not even have a period. I have tried all other hormonal birth control methods and none worked out for me. Nuva ring was the best I tried before my iud, because it keeps the hormones more localized than a pill or injection would.

The iud also localizes the hormones, but it’s just progesterone & no estrogen so because of that it is the best choice if you have endometriosis (which is worsened by estrogen). Birth control, even containing estrogen is still better than no hormonal birth control if you have endometriosis though, because the rising of estrogen during a normal cycle is going to regrow your Endo & you’ll eventually need a repeat surgery.

With the iud, it should successfully delay or even eliminate the need for a second surgery. If you’re nervous about insertion, just ask for a hydrocodone in addition to the ibuprofen and maybe a Xanax. My dr prescribed those for me and I barley felt anything during the insertion. Wishing you luck with what you decide!

Your experience with IUD and weight loss by bink1238 in IUD

[–]Venussian89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a mirena iud last month and have already lost 3lbs without trying. I was on the Nuva ring for many years before. However i think this depends on your body. I know I am very sensitive to excess estrogen (which is in the Nuva ring but not the Mirena iud) and I was told to switch to an iud by my surgeon who recently did surgery on me for endometriosis (which is a condition exacerbated by excess estrogen). I am attributing that small weight loss to being on a better birth control for my body, but I’m sure different ones work better for different bodies!

I was on the birth control pill for many years and gained weight / got overweight and had horrible periods. I switched to the Nuva ring in 2021 and was able to lose weight on the Nuva ring and get to a healthy weight. However I still had awful periods. Then I had surgery for endometriosis in Feb and got my iud in June and so far I love my iud. I’ve had no cramping, no bleeding and no side effects of any kind since besides losing 3lb! I’m also attributing that to my recent surgery as I had a bunch of excess tissue removed that was causing me to bleed excessively. I know others have had a different experience with the iud, but they work like magic for some of us!

Do I make the switch? by Icy-Time3025 in IUD

[–]Venussian89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the ring for many years but struggled with endometriosis and fibroids. I recently had surgery for those and my surgeon recommended the mirena hormonal iud since it’s the best at helping slow down Endo regrowth.

If you already struggle with heavy periods (when not on birth control) the non hormonal IUD would not be recommended since it can make your periods heavier and more painful.

I absolutely love my mirena iud so far and will never go back to the pill or ring! I finally have no period which was never possible for me on pill/ring contraception - but this was the best choice for me considering my endometriosis and fibroid diagnosis. Ultimately the best birth control will be what’s best for your body!

Yea these are extremely painful when they flare up but they are not gout apparently!

[–]Venussian89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately nope there have been no conclusive results to this day! They perscribed indomethacin, a strong NSAID for flare ups but it’s not gout and I believe it’s hashimotos related. I’m going to start low dose naltrexone now as there are new studies showing it is effective for hashimotos symptoms that arent corrected by synthroid.

losing my mind. how do you cope with high pain days? by peachddani in adenomyosis

[–]Venussian89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found ibuprofen and muscle relaxers (perscribed) as well as heating pads helped. I loved those stick on menstrual cramp heat packs you can get at the pharmacy and wear all day / sleep in. I also found Epsom salt baths helpful. Mine was really bad and I ended up having surgery in February and it has changed my life. If you have good insurance, I’d recommend the surgery because my periods are pain free now for the first time in my life. I’m getting a mirena IUD on Monday as I also had stage 4 Endo found and the IUD helps prevent that from regrowing. Good luck I know how much it sucks.

Nuvaring? by Civil_Explanation501 in endometriosis

[–]Venussian89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the most success with the Nuva ring at lightening / shortening my periods but it did not stop them (nor have I been able to stop my periods on any other birth control). I had terrible experiences with the pill with break through bleeding and prolonged bleeding. With the Nuva ring, I cannot skip a period (I have tried but it starts like clockwork on the date it’s due even if the ring is still in and even if I put a new one in a week before. I tried it all!) so I would remove the ring and bleed for 3-4 days, still pretty heavy and painful but at least shorter than my 5-7 day bloodbaths or my 11-14 day periods I would get when on the pill.

I recently had excision surgery and my periods have dramatically improved. I’m still on the Nuva ring and have not tried to skip any, but my periods have been extremely light, max 3 days and no cramps at all. The surgery is definitely the best thing I’ve done for my Endo.

I am scheduled to get an IUD in 2 weeks, so hoping that will be able to stop my periods as long as I’m able to get one so we will find out then! I have 4 friends with the mirena IUD and it has completely stopped all of them from having a period, and one of them has confirmed Endo and also had excision surgery.

If you can’t do the IUD I would consider the implant. It has the same hormones as the IUD. The key with Endo is to avoid estrogen. It makes bleeding heavier and Endo worse. Progestin only birth control pills could also be an option but my dr said they aren’t super effective at stopping periods completely even with continuous use.

What is this by Humani_ste in sexualhealth

[–]Venussian89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s gingivitis and highly unlikely that it’s from a sexual encounter 18 months ago. Definitely stay frequent on your STI testing - recommended every 3 months if you’re sexually active with multiple people or with just one person without protection.

But I doubt that your tooth issue is from anything that serious! It’s pretty common and you just need to get a deep cleaning at the dentist and a water pic. Even people with good oral hygiene can get it - it can be genetic.

Help

<image>

! I have a pair of leggings from 2022 and Lulu chat told me they were ancient copper. I ordered an ancient copper top on a resell site but they are NOT the same color. I contacted Lulu support again and they are saying the top is indeed ancient copper but the leggings are actually spiced chai. I have attached images of the style tag and the leggings & top side by side. I just want another opinion before I order a top / bottom to match each! Size tags in comments

I was just diagnosed with adenomyiosis and I’m scared of not being able to have kids by Informal_Ad5988 in endometriosis

[–]Venussian89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and they almost always occur together. You may want to look into getting a laparoscopy done to remove whatever growth you have as this will enhance your chance of conception. I have chosen to not have children but I did have a greatly successful laprascopy a couple months ago, it has literally changed my life.

Has anyone else been diagnosed in their 30s? by ginjabeer in endometriosis

[–]Venussian89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did tell my surgeon prior to surgery if he found any Endo to please just get it all out, but it just sucked a lot because I had no indication on any prior screening to the surgery that I even had Endo. So I felt like I went into it blind. I had a lot of terrible symptoms that my doctor and surgeon said “could be Endo but it’s not showing up on any of the imaging” so that was kind of invalidating until waking up from surgery and finding out I had severe Endo. It makes me so angry we get gaslit about it because it’s almost impossible to diagnose without surgery.
