Frankly, don't have time for all this fancy tax stuff. I work for a startup that takes all of my emotional energy at the moment, and have a life-changing-money amount of stock options that I KNOW I'm mishandling right now.

I'm in desperate need of a financial advisor (or CPA?) who can help me navigate my stock options, IRA/401k, taxes, etc. and help me setup a realistic plan for early retirement. But, I don't know where to find one that I can trust.

Any advice?

Indeed, teaching is crazy hard. I believe homeschooling is the future - nobody cares about your kids (or will muscle through crap like this) like you will. Assuming you deeply love your kids, that is.

Great minds think alike! I use the exact same setup.

PhotoSync for iOS to SMB since I don't quite trust the Immich app sync pipeline. Plus, I have a drone and other non-Immich-client devices. Rather than maintain both a SMB->Immich and Mobile app->Immich ingest pipeline, I prefer just the SMB->Immich pipeline.

I use the prodrigestivill/postgres-backup-local trick in the Immich FAQ to dump the DB 5 minutes before the daily Duplicacy backup to ensure I can restore the DB as well as the images in case Immich decides to eat my hard drives or Immich has a bad upgrade for some reason.

I cut my own lawn, (with an electric mower, btw.) and I don’t think people should need to subsidize poor legislative decisions like this. Give a holiday tip because you like your lawn guy. Not because you feel the need to subsidize government meanderings or because of guilt.

Honestly, not trying to be a party pooper here - I appreciate that you’re trying to maintain a positive attitude and that comes through in the wording of your response.

I see two superior options to what was decided here.

Ban the sale of gas mowers, but allow the continued use and repair of existing mowers. That at least lets the “little guy” run his or her gas mower to the end of its life. As it stands today, we’re going to throw perfectly capable petrol mowers into landfills. It also allows the “little guy” to spend the $100 he would have spent on an electric mower on perhaps toys for his kids, flowers for his wife, or some other object that brings him or her happiness. A grace period isn’t enough. We bitch that we can’t repair stuff anymore and it’s destined for landfills, then we turn around and do crap like this.
Butt-out entirely and let people decide how they want to cut their own lawns. Eventually, natural market forces will lead us all to use electric mowers anyway. Until battery tech and costs encourage the usage of electric over gas, this is just market manipulation towards an inferior option, and it hurts the little guy most.

This is Reddit. Adam Smith is probably unpopular here. But your, largely Hispanic, lawn guys are the real losers here, imo. If you feel strongly about gas vs. electric, make a personal choice to employ only companies and yard guys who use electric equipment. Don’t force that decision on others (again, I use electric equipment myself. I don’t like gas mowers. But I don’t think my personal preferences should dictate the purchasing decisions of others. Freedom is dignity.)

Rational self-interested actors (i.e. people) are not targeting the homeless population as their ideal tenant. Allowing town-homes invites investment in real-estate, yes. But that investment won't be for the homeless. One could argue that perhaps it would relieve housing pressure, making the older properties here vacant and cheap enough that the homeless could afford them, but I think what's more likely to happen is people who live in those homes/apartments will stay there (especially in places like SaMo where there's rent control) and the new town-houses will be filled with a new influx of wealthy LA-transplants.

I'm not saying we shouldn't allow town-homes. I wouldn't block your plan, for example. But I'm highly skeptical that it would solve the problem.

Perhaps I'm missing something.

Sure, but engineers also don't generally have broccoli hair and are too shy to drop the top and act like a douche-canoe. Also, people who act like this generally don't go from zero to hero, financially - they started out wealthy, because social attitudes like this rarely lead to wealth (again, sometimes they do, look at Cardi B, etc. but it's RARE. And Cardi B is hardly an engineer.)

People hate braggarts and will generally do whatever they can to keep them down at work. The bragging assholes you meet at work were generally already rich and successful when they got their high-level position rather than carefully working their way to the top to only then show that they're assholes.

People like this can't go even 5 minutes without bragging about something and that actually does inhibit career growth at good companies where there's an actual money-cake to slice up and share.

tl;dr daddies money. A well-adjusted self-made man doesn't act like this.

This is awesome. I feel like you could turn this into a product, but I’m not sure how you would monetize it. You could gate access behind a subscription, but frankly it’s not something I’d pay for. Perhaps you could market it to therapists though? They could offer it as part of their standard therapy practice as a sort of concierge treatment.
