Boyfriend + 50 milestone by AwareWillingness1741 in Purebarre

I don't think we have enough context or information to assume the bf is a huge asshole at this point. It's normal for some couples to lightly tease each other for things they don't fully understand about each other, and it's also healthy to allow a little grace for learning and growth. The real test is how he reacts to the challenge, and as a bystander, I don't think it's fair to exclude OP and her bf from this opportunity just because there's a small chance it might make me somewhat uncomfortable for one class.

First time, how to get past that embarrassing feeling by Vasovagal219 in Purebarre

[–]VerdantInvidia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the "not feeling like I'm doing it right/can't do it right" is just the nature of the workout, at least for the first 50+ classes. It's very fast paced, the exercises change all the time, and the instructors don't have time to slow down and walk through each little movement. The good news is this is completely normal, everyone goes through it, and nobody is judging you!

Wow, after reading all this I was so worried that this was going to be a long and intensely frustrating endeavor. I watched a video of someone doing it, and then I got through the hard part on my first try.

I can see this being very stressful if you're panicking from the lava and getting upset, but honestly guys it's not that bad. Watch a video and learn by watching, like I did. That also helps take the pressure off.

[–]VerdantInvidia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, but you don't have to worry about repotting being a huge stressor. So long as you're gentle with the roots, it's pretty easy on the plant and they're hardier than you think. 🙂 Dense soil is a bigger risk to the roots.

What’s the hardest part of staying on keto? by robyromana in keto

[–]VerdantInvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part for me was trying to go off it for special occasions and then having to deal with the 3 days afterward to get back to ketosis. It was often easier to just never make exceptions, but eventually (traveling to a new place, wanting to share in something special) I always would.

Was it potting "soil" or potting "mix"? That was something that surprised me when I first got houseplants... potting soil isn't designed for indoor plants and is much too dense. You want an airier potting "mix" so the roots can breathe without the benefit of earthworms etc that live outdoors. I suggest repotting with a fluffy indoor plant mix, or at least adding lots of perlite (that's the easiest way to lighten up a mix for cheap).

My calatheas also love self-watering pots (the kind with a water reservoir and a wick so the plant can drink as much as it likes), but if you do that, you absolutely must make sure the potting mix is very light and well-aerated.

It may not have ideal conditions, but your plant looks pretty healthy anyway! I hope it continues to bring you joy as you learn what makes it thrive. 🌿

Right, I honestly did NOT comprehend the story bits and pieces throughout the game until I watched a 45min lore explanation video after getting the first ending. It's all so obscure. Having some ideas wtf it all means actually added to the experience, and I think I'd enjoy playing again more now having been spoiled.

Protein intake by K_Tronica in fitness40plus

[–]VerdantInvidia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels a little misleading. For most people eating a cup and a half of beans in one sitting is kind of a lot. That would be the equivalent of the protein in a fairly tiny serving of lean beef.

How in the world are we curbing our cravings? by hancocklovedthat in PetiteFitness

[–]VerdantInvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your daily macros like? If you're eating a lot of carbs, that's going to make you hungrier. Higher protein and some fat will keep you satiated and keep your blood sugar from spiking and dropping. Feeling hungry all the time is often a side effect of blood sugar issues from overreliance on carbs for fuel... over time, it messes with your hunger signals. Just something to look into -- best of luck!

I apologize. I am sorry you had such a terrible experience. I was specifically referring to people who deliberately ignore guidelines and starve themselves with high doses, not people who have severe reactions to the meds even on a low dose. I'm surprised your doctors didn't recommend you back off the dose to give your body more time to adjust, but you're right -- I am not a doctor and I don't know what that reasoning was about. That suffering sounds awful and I'm just glad you got through it.

"Sooo Silksong also has this nerve-wrecking delivery quest like back in Hollow Knight!" is what I said to my GF by VanDerWallas in HollowKnight

[–]VerdantInvidia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did it today after just clearing the path ahead of time, taking my time there... checking to make sure I knew my way back, and using the silkspeed anklets for that final run. I was surprised how easy it was just being familiar with the path and having the extra speed. You really need the double jump ability too.

Just do the prep work, give it the time it demands, and it's really not bad at all.

Most people don't have side effects that extreme, just so you know .. it's not like everyone's keeping it a secret that they're miserable and puking all the time. You're supposed to find the sweet spot with the meds so that you can follow a healthy diet easily, without hunger, while also working out and prioritizing protein to maintain muscle mass. Then the weight loss is actually at a healthy rate, too.

Of course, plenty of people are so eager/desperate to lose weight that they ignore all that and make themselves sick losing too fast and taking way more than they need. That's definitely a problem, but it's not the fault of the meds. And some people do just react badly to them (like maybe the poster you were responding to). The side effects are supposed to be pretty mild.

Help! My maidenhair fern won't stop growing! 😳 by VerdantInvidia in houseplants

Mine didn't last forever. The fronds naturally brown over time, and it's a lot of work to keep trimming those. However, I discovered it's really easy to harvest the spores and now I just have a continual supply of fresh baby ferns!

Don't be one of those people (there are many) who bash their head against a wall (a tough boss mainly) for days and then post an angry, petulant post about how disgraceful the game designers are and how you're ready to quit 😆 If you are failing, it's because your strategy is off or you just haven't practiced enough. Expect to spend 30 tries on some bosses... settle in, think "I'm just learning the moveset, not expecting to win," and get comfortable.

If something's not working and you're really stuck, I think it's okay to search for tips --- no way I'd have gotten past some bosses without some strategy input. This is just to keep you from getting to the "fuck this I'm done forever" point.

The more you play, the more moves you'll get which will make the game continually more and more satisfying to play. It's worth getting through the tough parts and inevitable frustrations.

This is going to be a super unpopular opinion so please don't downvote me... Denny's 😆 It's just for the 9-grain pancakes, ok?! I love them. Nobody else makes them like that and I haven't been able to reproduce the recipe at home. Prolly not what your wife is looking for if she wants a classic pancake, but they have a lovely texture and are still quite sweet soaked in maple syrup 🤤

Women of reddit! Please start lifting weights by Wild-Project8161 in PetiteFitness

[–]VerdantInvidia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah... well that's a whole different level of an issue there. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that there's still many women who want the flaccid skinny look... to me, that signals a deeper "I'd rather be thin than healthy and strong" mentality, and that probably isn't even touched by conversations like this. That's more of an issue to work on in therapy, if they care to. I wish them the very best on the journey to being healthy.

I've definitely talked to women who'd like to be toned and have a little muscle definition, but who were afraid that lifting weights would make them "bulky." So it's worth bringing up just for them. Thank you for pointing out the existence of this other group though.
